McCown left without a contract

Apparently the old scrub thinks his time sitting on the bench is worth an unrealistic amount. Glad to see Mac won't overpay like he did last year with Fitz. Time to bring Culer in for a visit and see where his head is . That is really the only option this year. It is an incredible reach to draft a Quarterback early this year.  They are simply not ready .  Draft the best player available and don't reach. Take Wr Williams or the best defensive back.

He just left the Browns and doesn't want to downgrade.

It's obvious that Macc really wanted McCown. You don't have him and his family to dinner and meet with him for basically 3 days to pay him to hold a clip board.

So realistically, we have been shunned by Glennon, Hoyer, and now possibly McCown.

As much as everyone is celebrating, Macc is running out of options.  So we basically have Cutler, RGIII, and a rookie.

And most of the scouting of the rookies is done.  In fact over the last week, the Browns have looked into trading for Garappolo and Cousins.  So a team with Osweiler and two of the top 12 picks in the draft is so concerned about the rookie QBs, they are reaching out to uncover trade options.

That said, If Macc can't find another option at QB, he may be forced to over draft a QB (again) that he knows isn't the answer.  And that dooms the front office, coaching staff, and most of all, the fans as we go another 3 or 4 years of floundering near the bottom of the league.

One of the problems is this, Petty is still hurt. So that leaves only Hack for OTAs and possibly mini camp.

I am all for Hack starting in the offseason so they can get a look at who close to or far away from being ready he is. But at some point they need some other QBs taking practice snaps.

Hack needs all the work he can get in my opinion short of his arm falling off.

Draft a rookie QB and the camp battle begins it will be the best thing to happen to the QB position here in years.

at this point there's kind of no urgent reason to sign a mccown type player. they will be able to find a qb who can back-up at just about any point.  of course the other option is to use another high draft pick on a qb and let the 3 young guys fight it out.  after all the reason why teams opt for the experienced back up is so that they still have a chance to win some games if the starter goes down for a game or two.

I predict in a desperation move and we all know Macc is good at them this will happen.

The Browns most likely will cut Osweiler as no other team will be willing to take on his contract. The Jets should try to give Osweiler a “prove it” year contract, something along the lines of a two-year $20M deal with a team opt-out clause after the first season. The Jets have nothing to lose, and Osweiler’s potential to turn into a starting quarterback for the Jets is better than that of fellow quarterbacks Jay CutlerGeno SmithChase DanielJosh McCownTrevor SiemianA.J. McCarronRobert Griffin IIIColin Kaepernick, and Mark Sanchez.

i agree they need someone to press hack, and mccown could've been that guy.  at the same time there are lots of qb's who can fill that role.  the jets can draft someone or even pick up a guy as a udfa.

maybe not a bad fit for both the team and osweiler.  if osweiler has any pride he's got to realize what just happened and if he wants a starting job he really needs to get his head screwed back right.

They definitely need someone who can beat Hack out. Hack has to earn anything he is handed. They have been doing it the other way for far too long.

The Jets weren't shunned by Glennon they were smart emough not to pay $15M annually.  We also don't know that McCown shunned the Jets.  Mac still has options with other free agent QBs and trade possibilities.  It's also possible a deal with McCown may happen in the future.

Another option

Quite possibly the most polarizing prospect in this draft class, Patrick Mahomes II is certainly fun to watch. The question is, can he make the transition from a great college football player to a great NFL player?

Patrick Mahomes II, native of Tyler, TX, is coming off a huge season that saw him lead the FBS in passing yards (5,052) and total touchdowns (53).

Strengths

Standing at 6’3″, 230lbs, Mahomes has the desired size and build for an NFL quarterback and is incredibly fun to watch. He can make all the throws accurately, even on the run. He has a cannon for an arm and he’s able to utilize it with an amazing deep ball.
