For what its worth...

The Jets doubled down at safety in Round 2 by selecting Marcus Maye. Similarly versatile to Adams, Maye provides a nice complement to the LSU star and should fit in as more of a free safety with Adams playing closer to the line of scrimmage. For what it's worth, Maye's grade from the NFL Draft Advisory Board was reportedly higher than former teammate Keanu Neal's mark, and Neal was drafted 17th overall by the Falcons in 2016.

He can't cover, he lost four games to an injury and one to a suspension, and he's already 23. This is a pick that looked horrific at the time and somehow gets worse the more you learn about it.

Just to throw a little water on this... http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/tracker#dt-tabs:dt-by-grade/dt-by-grade-input:2 - ranked 50 overall http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/marcus-maye?id=255799

Even though he played nickel or free safety for 70% of his snaps. Generally he's considered good at everything but if it makes you feel good to make stuff up go right ahead.

rex did a great job in Buffalo but the perception is he failed so he won't get another job but that doesn't change what he did for us.

He made us a laughing stock and left us in ruins but ok

he has the most playoff wins in our history and gave us 2 cracks at SBs for the only time in our history.  I'd rather be that type of laughingstock than the Bowles type.

Even though it ends up in the same place? Humiliation, a sh*t team in need of a fore-to-aft rebuild, and millions of dollars wasted on a comically bad coach?

comically bad that he holds the Jets record for playoff wins and title game apps.  we wonder why we deserve what we have now.

You're a smart guy and know that Jets-specific coaching "records" are worthless. Come on now.

whether one feels that way or not he's still the most successful coach we have ever had.  it ended badly but no other coach gave us 2 cracks at a SB. would you rather have that or what we had in 2016?

I think your interpretation of "cracks at a SB," and Rex's role in those "cracks" is flawed.

When he's done praising Rex for said cracks, have him tell you about how the Giants' two championship runs are just flukes undeserving of praise.

You're entirely underestimating the predominance of anti-intellectualism coursing through the American bloodstream, my friend.

I dunno, between Lil Woody's threads and the Aaron Hernandez legal analyses on this board, I think I have a decent handle on it.

The report everyone says about him being an Idzick pick,

was him running to tell Rex that he found a guy that Rex was just going to love.

So he was looking for Rex players, Rex gave the go ahead.

I don't know how much of an Idzick pick that really makes it

Wrong.  There is no evidence that Rex gave the "go ahead."  It was ALL Idzik.  Period.  So was Richardson and so was Milliner.  Idzik thought he was drafting Troy ******* Polamalu when he drafted Pryor.  He came back with a hardon for Pryor after scouting him PERSONALLY.

I would call playing in the championship game where the winner goes to the SB as a crack and it’s baffling how we made 2 title games in a row w/ such a buffoon as a HC, a terrible GM, terrible OC, terrible QB, etc…

they deserve praise but there wasn't a huge difference btw NYG '07/'11 and NYJ '09/'10 other than NYG caught more breaks.  close Sanchez fumble which could have easily been called incomplete for Jets while clear Bradshaw fumble is ruled down.  They rule that a fumble NYG doesn’t go to their last SB.

The record is 4. Stop with this sh*t.

is it a record? yes, 4 playoff wins is a significant amount for the new York Jets.  Know how many playoff wins the great Bill Belichick has without Tom Brady?  ONE, know how many title game apps?  ZERO

but I am glad you guys are fine w/ what we have done since rex.

Weeb was far and away the best Jets coach ever and he has a ring to prove it.

I liked Rex. He's the best gameplanner the Jets ever had.

Weeb gets #1 b/c of the championship but Weeb had 3 winning seasons in 11 years here and getting to the SB was much easier back then.  we don't have a great coaching history, we don't have a great history which is why we should appreciate the small successes we have had.  we aren't building a statue of Rex but have some appreciation for what he did.

Rex Ryan is Jerry Glanville with a Pornhub Channel.

Glanville did run the Run & Shoot offense, so he at least liked to throw a forward pass more than 3 or 4 times a game and not only on 3rd down.

FWIW via Cimini:

4. Maye day! Maye day! Adams has been the talk of the draft class, which is what you'd expect from the sixth overall pick, but the player who really jumped out during the three-week OTA period was second-round safety Marcus Maye. Working mostly at free safety, he impressed the organization with his ability to digest the defense and limit his mental mistakes on the practice field. It's still early, but the Jets really like the way the Maye-Adams tandem is developing.

@dbatesman here is your cue to wipe your bottom on this thread too.

Great news, especially for a team with the least talented roster in the league .

imo the only issue with the maye pick is that the jets their two top picks on safeties when they have a number of positions that could really use top round help.  but in bowles system good safeties are needed just as much as any other positions so hopefully it'll work out.  and even though pryor was limited the jet defense did play better when he was in there.
