Memo to Jets fans: As expected, Wyoming QB Josh Allen has declared for the draft. The Jets are showing a lot of interest, but there's a long way to go in the process. His playmaking ability was on display today in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, but he's a raw prospect that will need to be developed. Career completion percentage: 56.2. You won't find many NFL starters who were under 60 percent in college.

QB Bryce Petty has had a rough start to his career. How rough? Petty passed for no touchdowns and one interception in the Jets' loss to the Chargers. In each of his six NFL starts, Petty has thrown at least one interception and no more than one touchdown. The last quarterback to start his career with streak as long as Petty's was Art Schlichter of the Colts (1984).

Jets coach Todd Bowles declined to comment on whether he'd let OC John Morton out of his contract if presumptive Raiders coach Jon Gruden tries to hire him. "I don't deal in rumors," said Bowles, saying he'd have no comment until he hears it from a person in an official capacity. Morton got his first coaching from Gruden and considers him a mentor.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan, stubbornly refusing to admit that QB Christian Hackenberg is developing slower than expected, said: "The book on Christian isn't closed." Here's the problem: They haven't even gotten past the table of contents. Maccagnan insisted that Hackenberg has "made progress" even though he hasn't played a single down. Maccagnan declined to say whether he wanted Hackenberg to play in the final game, deferring to Todd Bowles' authority on determining playing time.
