But he wouldnt restructure with us?  I guess this is the pay cut you take when you know the super bowl is all but guaranteed.

The specific details of the contract to be signed by linebacker David Harris with the Patriots inevitably will come out. For now, they’re not.

But here’s what we know, per a source with knowledge of the situation: The Patriots offered Harris more than the Jets did on a reduced deal, before the Jets cut him.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick was one of six coaches who spoke with Harris last week. Ultimately, he chose to visit the Patriots today. And he signed with them today. The contract already has been negotiated; this was simply a matter of confirming that Harris and the Patriots are a fit.

And they are. He’ll be their first true middle linebacker since Jerod Mayo, and he decided that he was only going to continue his career if he had a chance to win a Super Bowl.

Harris, we’re told, doesn’t need the money. He’s playing at this point for love of game and legacy. He’ll have a chance to add to it with the Patriots, and he’ll have two shots at the Jets along the way.

I believe he got 2.5 million + some incentives

who knows what the Jets were going to cut him down to from 6.5 million

You cannot manage an NFL franchise perennially paranoid that your rival might sign every backend-of-career overpaid veteran you might cut.

So the Pats signed Harris. Nothing has changed, Harris remains an older, slower MLB who on OUR team was overpaid for his skill level, and a liability in any form of coverage. If he improves, it will be the players around him, and at this new cost, the risk, for the Pats, is warranted.

The loss of Harris makes no difference to this Jets team. We are what we are, with him, and now without him. There is no sense being unhappy.

Jets fans should instead be rooting that our TE's can exploit this move.

Good for you Harris. You deserved better from the Jets

Good riddance you soft-spoken quitter.

Every defense you led into the playoffs blew it in a big spot. The blood of Pittsburgh is on your hands.

Teach New England how to no-show, it's your specialty.

It's really silly to argue 'the Pats wanted him and he wanted the Pats, why couldn't the Jets want him and he want the Jets?!?' 'Get young - get cheap - plan for the future' does not and should not make the same personnel decisions as 'play for now - short window - experience trumps potential'

You guys have to stop with all this "cheating" nonsense. NE doesn't cheat anymore than any other team. In fact the only thing that can even be remotely called cheating was having a camera a few feet out of position. Spygate had nothing to do with what was being taped. It was 100% about from where it was being taped. Everything else has been proven to be made up: Deflategate (the Colts' footballs were also deflated), taping walk throughs (the reporter apologized for making it up). Hard work, smart coaches, and smart players.

Who are you and why are you here? The Patriots forum is one click away. Go foam over there.

Jimmy G will do what Tom did when Bledsoe went down.

Jimmy G had his 'Brady/Bledsoe' moment last year, and not a single Pats fan was wishing Brady would stay gone.

Not really.  Jimmy G was in because Brady was suspended for being the cheater he is, not because he was injured...and I think they went undefeated and Jimmy G was on fire.

Old Alge Crumpler, who was like 300 lbs of blubber at the end of his career, easily chased him down in around half that distance. It was from the other side of the field and after the initial second(s) of reaction time before he'd realized Brady had been picked off.

That was 7 seasons ago, when he was 26.

Good fit..  Patriots don't like their players talking and Harris hasn't said anything particularly interesting in his life.

Harris will be retire after this year and will have had a very good pro career.  Can't hate him.
