Lil Woody
Love Joe, but it's over. He's not getting into the HOF. He has too much working against him. 1 - no true position that people identify him with 2 - no flashy stats - only 24 sacks listed/recorded (1982 was 1st year they recorded them) 3 - People can use the Sack Exchange talent against him to minimize his impact. 4 - He's a New York F***ing Jet. Sadly, this may also have something to do with it: SPORTS PEOPLE: PRO FOOTBALL; Klecko Pleads Guilty to Perjury Charge Published: January 13, 1993 JOE KLECKO, a former Pro Bowl defensive lineman, pleaded guilty to a charge of lying to a Federal grand jury investigating insurance fraud. Klecko pleaded guilty Monday in United States District Court in Philadelphia after Judge HARVEY BARTLE 3d rejected a defense motion to dismiss the charge of perjury. His lawyer said Klecko was "lured" into committing perjury. A Federal indictment accused Klecko, a four-time Pro Bowl choice in his career with the Jets from 1977 to 1987, of lying about a $6,000 insurance claim submitted in July 1988 on his truck. The indictment said Klecko told a grand jury that his truck had been damaged by chemical particles and debris and that the truck had been repainted, when in fact neither was true. Klecko is scheduled to be sentenced April 8. He faces up to five years in prison and a $25,000 fine. (AP)

Personally, I don't believe there is an anti-Jets bias for HOF voting. Curtis was a 1st ballot. Many franchises have one guy left hanging that their fans believe belongs in Canton. Art Monk waited for 23 years after his final season for f*ck's sake. Klecko absolutely belongs in the HOF, unfortunately, he rotated at relatively glamourless positions. He also missed his window, so to speak. There are several advocates out there for his admission into the HOF, including MMQB column writer Peter King. He may yet get his day at the podium... You could say that about any D Line we've had post-Sack Exchange. No Jet line since has had 2 guys better than Kleck on it, and the only 2 DL here since he retired that came close are Jason Ferguson (his effect on the run game was nothing short of amazing but offered little to nothing as a pass rusher) and Kris Jenkins (unfortunately couldn't stay healthy). ASH1962
This travesty reminds me of the same idiocy as The Moody Blues not being inducted to the RnR Hall of Shame. Joe Klecko was a dominant, virtually unstoppable force that drove the NYSE. Intense great player the likes of which would immediately vault our present (underachieving) defense to a higher level. His attitude, intensity, and desire to win was second to none. Klecko played the game because he loved the game, not for a contract.
Kleckineau
Joe is probably my favorite Jet ever but he isnt getting in. Anti Jets bias does not exist and lack of sack stats isnt the cause. Plenty of lineman in the hall who played before sacks were a stat. The criminal conviction is whats gonna keep him out. It is really absurd in light of the fact they keep the animal OJ in the HOF who literally turned 2 people into Pez dispensers (and found innocent by a rigged jury) and also subsequent convictions but wont put Joe in because of some boneheaded victimless crime he committed like 30 years ago. kelly
Chapter 5: Has History Forgotten Joe Klecko ? Eric AllenSr. Reporter/Director, Internet ProgrammingEmail @eallenjets On the Inside Twenty-Eight Years After His Retirement, Klecko Still Hasn’t Heard from the Pro Football Hall of Fame Climb Still Remains The ascension has not gone according to plan. It’s been 28 years since Klecko retired. His eligibility as a Modern Era candidate for the Hall of Fame has expired. A man who seamlessly made the transition from playing outside to inside during his career has now been stuck on the outside for close to three decades.“I’m shocked to be honest with you,” Hannah said. “At the same time, I’m not because he never was on a real championship team. Unfortunately people only think the players who finished in championship games are worthy to be considered great players. But Joe was an unbelievable player and because he wasn’t on a lot of championship teams, he’s been overlooked.” A four-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time first-team All-Pro, Klecko helped the Jets earn playoff appearances in 1981, ‘82, ‘85 and '86. “The thing that probably hurts Joe is that the Jets never made it to the Super Bowl during his years with the team,” Myers said. “But they did make it to a conference championship game. He got hurt early that season, but made it back for the playoffs so he was one step away from the Super Bowl.” Klecko played 12 seasons in the NFL and he was a standout in nine of those.“Technique, intensity and want. You’re not a sixth-round pick and become a star,” DeLamielleure said. “He became a star. Go down a roster, how many sixth-round picks are in the Hall of Fame? How many defensive tackles are in the Hall of Fame that didn’t play in a Super Bowl? I think that’s one of the things that hurts a lot of guys, that they don’t have the ring. Give me a break.” More than a shooting star, the knee injuries held him back in ’82 and ’87. But even in those final 15 games with the Colts, Klecko helped instill a culture."I really appreciate the stability you brought our team last year,” Colts head coach Ron Meyer told him upon his retirement. “You epitomize what we all want (all our) players to aspire to." A Great Player Joe Klecko never quit and he had no fear. He compiled a 25-2 record as a collegiate boxer at Temple and earned a few sparring sessions with former heavyweight champion Smokin’ Joe Frazier. “I was noted for my right hand, so I went in there to set Joe up for a right hand,” Klecko said of his experience at Cloverlay Gym in Philadelphia, “Like Joe Frazier never saw anybody set him up for a right hand. Joe used to be noted for his left hook and he stopped it right next to my head.”Frazier didn’t hit Klecko and the latter escaped damage. Klecko’s ring was on the field and that is where his championship mentality was always on display. “Don’t lose. Don’t lose your individual battles and you’ll win the game,” he said. “It starts play by play.” Klecko was a Hall of Fame competitor and he played in an era when the game did not feature specialists. He also recorded a franchise-tying five blocks on special teams.“My litmus test for players is are you great on every down or are you great every once in a while,” Long said. Those who watched him play every week and those who played with/against him know Joe Klecko IS a Hall of Famer. Long overdue. #Jets https://twitter.com/nyjets/status/880467119766470657 … 11:12 PM - 29 Jun 2017 Klecko’s peers are still amazed by his determination and his effort. “I had Joe Greene and Merlin Olsen. I put Joe right in there with them. He was a great player,” DeLamielleure said. “The difference between Joe and all the players you played against, he never took a play off. Ever. It was all-out. It was like he wanted to play against his older brother or something and wanted to prove a point.” Widely considered the greatest guard in NFL history, Hannah believes Klecko is one of the two best players he ever played against.“The two guys in my mind who were the best all-around that I ever played in front of were Howie Long and Joe Klecko,” he said. “They were just the best all-around defensive tackles I ever saw.” Anthony Muñoz, who is the most decorated offensive lineman in the history of the game, once said Klecko was “right there at the top of the defensive ends” he had to block while mentioning him with the likes of Fred Dean, Lee Roy Selmon and Bruce Smith.“He had crazy strength, leverage and smarts,” Muñoz said. “You see a lot of guys who have strength, but they don’t have the ability to mentally counter, mentally adjust not only from play to play, series to series, but during your move.” Follow Anthony Muñoz ✔@AnthonyMunozHOF Joe Klecko Hall of Fame #abouttimedontyouthink 2:46 PM - 21 Apr 2014 Not His Fight In the coming weeks, the Seniors Committee members will reduce the list to 15 Senior Nominee Finalists. Then five members of the nine-person Seniors Committee, selected on a rotating basis, will meet in Canton, OH and nominate two candidates to be among the finalists for Hall of Fame election. Those two Senior Nominees must receive the same minimum 80% of the vote as the Modern Era candidates to be elected. “I think Joe gets into the room, he gets into the Hall of Fame,” Wilner said. “So, the battle is let’s get him into the room.”This is the one battle that Joe Klecko cannot fight himself for this is not his fight. He did all he could do and that youngster with the farm boy strength is now 63 years old. When is his time? Has history forgotten him? "The Hall of Fame would be in a lot better standing with a guy like Joe in it,” Muñoz said.“I think it would be an honor for the Hall of Fame,” said Hannah of a Klecko induction. “I know it would be nice for Joe, but I think not having Joe in the Hall of Fame is really kind of a slur against the Hall of Fame.”Other Chapters: Chapter 1: After a Year of High School Football, Young Klecko Finds a New Name in Semi-Pro Football Chapter 2: Sixth-Round Pick Earns Rave Reviews for His Uncanny Strength, Herculean Effort Chapter 3: After Racking Up 20.5 Sacks at DE in 1981, Klecko Suffers a Major Injury Chapter 4: Bud Carson Arrives in New York and Klecko Reinvents Himself at the Nose > http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/article-7/Chapter-5-Has-History-Forgotten-Joe-Klecko-/1c5313bd-5bdb-4101-b345-197251764e8d

Patriot Killa
It wasn't a question of whether we'd get to the quarterback, it was how many times." –Marty Lyons NYSE was one of the proudest things we have. Klecko was a HUGE part of that. A 6th rounder, 7th rounder, 2nd rounder and a 1st. Just great drafting in the 70's set us up for good success in the 80's...and I was born 1996 lol that time in Jets history is crucially important if you are a true fan. You have to recognize that. Joe Klecko absolutely deserves to be in the hall of fame. I go back and watch games out of passion and interest but I can't imagine how awesome it was to see those guys in live action for our older members here. Y'all are truly blessed.? The guy is now 0 for 24 and that's with the full court press of the Jets these past 6 months. He's an all time great New York Jet. He's not an all time great NFL player. Move on.
