Jets snap count (defense): Three rookies saw action — Nathan Shepherd, Parry Nickerson and Frankie Luvu — but did anybody expect Luvu, an undrafted free agent, to lead the way? Before last night, Doug Middleton had played only 41 defensive snaps in his career (2016). He did a nice job starting for the injured Marcus Maye.

Film breakdown of Miami's third-and-19 conversion: The Jets were aggressive, perhaps too aggressive, considering the down and distance. They rushed six, with S Jamal Adams making it seven on a delayed blitz. Miami blocked it with six, allowing RB Frank Gore to leak out of the backfield. Who blew the coverage? It had to be Adams or LB Darron Lee (blitzing). With seven rushing, and with the three corners in man-to-man coverage downfield (single-high safety), the middle was wide open. Why blitz? The Jets probably wanted to keep Miami (at the NY 45) out of FG range by forcing a quick throw. It backfired.

The Jets defense played a great first half, recording four sacks and generating consistent pressure on the Browns to take a 14-3 lead. Ah, but this one isn't over. Baker Mayfield, who replaced an injured Tyrod Taylor, created a spark. Will the Jets succumb to Mayfield Magic? They'd better be prepared for quick throws because the moment won't be too big for him.
