Rex Ryan to Jameis Winston: "I'm jealous, I never had a quarterback like you."

Could you imagine what he could have done with Jameis?  This is a guy who got the best out of guys like Mark Sanchez, Geno Smith and Tyron Taylor.  He also orchestrated one the best running teams in the NFL multiple times.

He's basically a QB guru.  Can't imagine how great him and Jameis would be together.

Your still making excuses .. bro he sucks he never went on to get better he left the jets and has been a backup every where else . His own peers didn't think he was good see comments from  Steve Smith and  meltdown by santonio Holmes , and Braylon saying a rookie Geno gonna beat him out ..

How did this thread become a debate about Sanchez?  The thread should really be about how Rex blew his and the Jets chance at a franchise QB - Winston or Mariotta - by beating the Titans and Dolphins in weeks 15 and 17 in 2014 - and fist pumping all the way to the locker room after such spine tingling victories!!!!  That's the reason the Jets are still searching for a QB.  Because they win when they should lose- such as those two games - and lost when they should win - like the season ending game against Buffalo in 2015. Mariotta would be the Jets QB right now if they lost that game to Tennessee.  There's your franchise QB right there.

Any Jet fan who complains about the current team has no sense of history or what is needed to secure a QB.  Any fan who complains about the QBs on the roster  or demands that the Jets sign  a free agent QB that results in the Jets winning 1 or 2 more games than they should so the Jets lose out on Darnold or Allen should be banished. I'll gladly suffer through this year to obtain that QB.  Just lose baby.

I saw that episode last night.

Came away super impressed by Winston and at the same time he throws a pick from his back in the redzone

If a jets QB did that this board would have a meltdown lol

Once he cleans up those decisions he will be a tough out

No matter how many times you want to ignore the fact that Brett Favre tore a muscle in his throwing arm that season doesn't change the fact that Brett Favre tore a muscle in his throwing arm that season.

He played the same way in dec he played Sept through October.  he had a 3-4 game stretch where he played well.  He was the iron man, he played and he is judged on how he played.  He was hurt a million times in his career, players play hurt all the time.  Stop using the injury excuse for the iron man who sucked for us as he never wanted to be here and played like it.  Show respect for those players and coaches that wanted to be here and helped us win rather than using that admiration on a guy who never wanted to be here.

We'll never know. He choose to stick with a one armed Farve and sealed his own fate.

I love the Favre injury excuse, it amuses me.  a man who made his career playing through pain and was the same in dec as he was in September gets the injury excuse but we'll bash other QBs that actually helped us win(and some who battled through injuries to do it).

Ok, so why did Farve play so poorly the last 5 games? 2-9 TD-INt ratio? One game over 60% completion percentage.

It is demonstrably false that he played the same way in Sept-Oct as he did in Dec.  His TD-INT ratio was 20-13 through the Tennessee game and 2-9 thereafter.  He averaged 224 yards per game through Tennessee and 202 after.

I do not care what his nickname was, he had a torn throwing arm, which greatly changed his ability to play, which greatly affected the fortunes of the team.  This is not an excuse, it is merely a telling of the facts.

I also don't care what his motivations were.  You think everyone else was thrilled to be a Jet?  Every single player who suits up for this team does so because Woody Johnson writes them a check.  And it's nobody's problem but yours that you want cheerleaders in uniform.

And still, all of this is irrelevant, because Brett Favre is irrelevant to Mark Sanchez's skills as a Quarterback.  No matter how much you want to make this a "whataboutism" argument.

Funny how Mr. "Stats without Context" is only interested in the contexts which help him make his futile arguments.

Also, while he may have not been super excited to be a Jet, you can't argue that he would have loved to take this sorry franchise to the playoffs and maybe make some noise, to try and shove it up GB's ass (hoping that Rodgers and GB bombed, of course). So he had motivation to do well. Maybe he had more motivation to send dick pics to interns but still.

He played hard while here.  Who cares if it was or wasn't what he always dreamed of.  Also, it's still irrelevant to Mark Sanchez being a bad quarterback.

why did he play so poorly sept/October?  he was a terrible cold weather QB late in his career, once it got cold and he struggled he tanked it.  he never wanted to play for us and it showed.

so we just ignore the aberration of the Arizona game?  through the frist 8 games he had a positive TD to INt ratio in THREE of the games w/ one of them being the awful SD game where he padded stats after putting us in a huge hole.

at Miami: 2 TDs, 0 INts w/ one of the TDs a 4th down hail mary b/c our K was hurt.

vs. NE: 1 TD, 1 INT. Td came when we were down 16-3 in the 4th

at SD: 3 TDs, 2 INTs.  Threw 2 TDs after we were down 38-14 in the 4th

vs. Ari: 6 TDs, 1 INT- skews all his 1st half stats in his lone great game for us.

vs. Cin: 1 TD, 2 INTs keeping awful Cincy team in game

at Oak: 0 TDs, 2 INTs in 16-13 loss in OT.  could only lead us to 10 pts in 5 qtrs. against awful Raiders and he was worst QB on the field that day while Oak had Jamarcus Russell.

vs. KC: 2 TDs, 3 INts.  again kept a bad team, in a game against us.

at Buf: 0 TDs, 1 INT.  was better than his #s this day. this started the only good stretch of football he had but it would only last a few weeks.

Yes CONTEXT, which means not just blindly looking at a stat sheet like you do. he kept our inferior opponents w/ our weak sched in games throughout that season.  he had a good stretch of 3-4 games all year then reverted back to the guy we saw most of the year and as soon as it got cold and he had some bad things happen he tanked it.

Favre wanted to stick it to GB, he wanted to go to Minnesota.  the only way that was possible was if they traded him and then he got let go after that year.  we agreed to do that for him, he had no loyalty to us.  he was barely here in preseason yet going into week 2 he was busy talking to Lions defenders on how to prepare for GB rather than getting into his Jets playbook- that week he was outplayed by Matt Cassell in his first career start.  he was outplayed by many bad QBs including Fitz, Russell, Thigpen, Wallace and more.  he sabotaged our season, the league and AFC were very weak that year, we had no Brady to worry about w/ a creampuff sched yet we couldn't even get to the playoffs but some Jet fans will celebrate Favre b/c he threw a few meaningless TDs while they bash QBs that actually helped us win.

TL;DR, but I knew you'd bring up the Arizona game.  Remove it... Fine... 14-12 TD/INT is still significantly different than 2-9 TD/IN, no?

I'm still not sure how any of this makes Mark Sanchez not a bad QB, as evidenced by both his stats and the fact that no one wants him, despite being at the point in his career that should be his prime.

so even including AZ he had positive TD/INt ratio in 3 of 8 games.  we ignore that?

Mark was able to help us get to the playoffs and win playoff games, doesn't mean he was better than favre in any way but he was a better fit for us than Favre.  He should be appreciated more than a guy who wanted nothing to do w/ us and was only here to pass the time before he got to Minnesota.
