“When the Texans traded up …” one team insider said. “I don’t want to say it spooked him, but it made him want to go ahead and take Hackenberg.”

So, he did.

It’s fair to wonder about the wisdom of a move that has yielded no tangible returns.

The only logical explanation for this pick that I can come up with is that Macc overheard Bill O'Brien raving about the kid after his Freshman year. Macc probably felt he had a one-up on every other GM out there once he left for the Jets because he had "inside information" directly from the kid's head coach that he was going to be a star.

Now we all know how things played out the next 2 years for Hack but unfortunately for us Macc had his mind made up from the start that this kid was the steal of the draft, stats and tape be damned. You would have thought Macc would have had second thoughts after the Texans passed on Hack multiple times but just like the guy who gets a stock tip on the golf course, Macc just couldn't conceive that he might be wrong on this one.

Organizational structure under Woody Johnson is a mess. And it values going along to get along over winning football games. Until of course you cannot ignore the abject failure, as we are about to see So Maccagan, after lucking into a career season by Fitz, tries to half ass his QB of the future hunt and instead makes the idiot HC happy with Lee and the safeties instead of making QB Priority #1.

This franchise spare the Indian Summer of Fitz for 15.5 games has not had an actual NFL QB since the night Favre got hurt. And clearly the message form on top is watered down rather than Priority #1. SImply this franchise has to keep trying to get a good QB early in the draft until they find one. Instead Maccagnan allowed his picks to be shaped by Bowles in the interests of being a nice guy. May be a club president could have helped to make that a reality.  But under Woody Johnson, not sure. You need to break eggs to make an omelet, and that doesn't seem to ever be the kind of people he hires. That they were allowed to pick 2 safeties after Lee last year and then were all smiles about it was a disgrace. Heck, to hell with a Club president, how about a VP of common f__in' sense?

And along the same lines not sure what you can expect for any QB in 2018 without a decent OL. The Jets will pick defenders all day, all of 1 that's worth a damn. And act like this offense and the QB slot are no big deal. There are no alarm bells going off because it's an echo chamber of stupidity

Take a bow, Woody, Mike and Todd; we are about to witness the worst offense in the most pass-happy NFL ever.

Have zero confidence Woody Johnson will ever get this right. He hasn't for almost 2 decades.

So, Maccagnan thought that O'Brien--who had just traded ahead of the Jets in Round Two--was going to take Hack, then O'Brien didn't draft Hack, but Macc was so rattled by this he drafted Hackenberg even though they thought he'd still be around in Round Three or Four?

Geno was tragedy. Hackenberg is farce. Maccagnan have been fired the second he handed in the card.

Hackenberg is basically a rookie.  I thought he showed a lot of good things in the preseason.  I'd still rather have him over Kizer, Watson, Mike Glennon.

Hack was still a good value pick in round 2.  A possible franchise qb is always good value in round 2

That right there is it. There's too much time in between the last game and the draft. The offense sucks ass all season then 4 months pass and everyone forgets and the stupid coach gets his way to build "his" defense. Same sh*t with Rex. The fact everyone was high fiving Lee and the two dopey safeties was embarrassing,

There were red flags galore-badmouthing Franklin in interviews, some really bad years after O'Brien left, everyone at PSU hated him. This pick reeked of panic. Couple it with Lil'Lee, ugh. Why were we not into trading up for Wentz? Why didn't we pick a QB this year?

Sure would have been nice to have Drafted James Bradberry in RD 2, and Prescott in RD 4, but Prescott would be stuck behind the QB who gives us the best chance to win in Fitzcown.

Wentz could still be a bust.  He looked ok first half his rookie year and was bad second half.  I would easily take Hackenberg over any qb from this year's draft class and a loser like Mike Glennon

LOL. Now we are accepting Manish F***ing Mehta and his "sources" as fact?  Look I get that everyone here is on their heaviest flow this season, but just because a negative little sh*t-stirring troll like Mehta is selling his usual brand of panic and negativity about everything NYJ, doesn't make it true.

You can debate the validity of the Hack pick all you want.  You can cry all day about Macc or Todd or whatever.  But for christsake do NOT give Manish Mehta the benefit of the doubt on any conjecture filled piece of crap editorial slam piece he writes.....ever.  Him and Cimini live to sh*t all over this franchise and they do it with glee.  It's a tried and true formula.  Sell miserable Jets fans doom and gloom while you feed them sh*t and tell them they deserve it and they will always just keep coming back for more.

Macc and Hack deserve each other.  Both will be seeking new employment soon enough.

Typical Jets fans showing impatience.  This is a rebuild we knew it would be another 3-4 years until we became good again.

Granted would have had to give up some more stuff, but Lee cannot cover grandma and gets blown up on running plays. Don't understand the mentality that missing on defense picks, no biggie, but don't dare take a chance on a QB.

No just NO, Wentz is the real deal you sure your not also @Rangers9?  Your QB evaluations are off the charts horrific like his.

Darron Lee and Jamal Adams are going to be cornerstones of an elite NFL Defense the next 10-15 years

I think we are in good hands with Mac.  90% of his draft picks have been excellent -- much better than Idzik who buried a hole for him with the 2014 draft.  I'd take either Petty or Hack over Wentz or even Prescott

Well, they have a lot of ruffage to digest in this franchise. Wonder why it is some writers go from a  sports beat to something way better like Mark Bowden and some guys never leave it.

Well his QB evaluations are comical.

Maybe but everyone here thinks they are a GM/Scout and pretty much all of them are no better than this guys pov.  Just because someone goes against the groupthink and isn't a member of the circle of despair doesn't mean they deserve to be sh*t all over on day 1.

Anyway welcome, new guy.

The groupthink is how Florham Park keeps making a mess. Speaking of ...such things...like when the dog gets too much people food.

You mean an obvious existing user making a new troll account?

When I first joined people played the same game with me.  Every post people asked if I was some other poster.  it would take a very strange person to waste the time to create a secondary (fake) account simply to post absurd ramblings on a message board that already provides anonymity.  Seems redundant and pointless.
