I realize he's probably just supporting his family and all but shouldn't he be consulting with lawyers or something? Interesting he had Chris Christie on though. I have to wonder if he's looking for some of that political clout. Even though Christie is no longer in government I'm sure he has plenty of crooked friends who might be able to help Carton. If Carton is able to get off from these charges, his popularity will probably shoot way up. He can give Chris Christie a show or they can be co-hosts. Less than 24 hours after the station was clubbed on MLB Network by former hosts Mike and the Mad Dog, Craig Carton got his Opening Day rips in during the premiere of his new streaming show. On FNTSY Sports Network’s “Carton & Friends,” the former WFAN morning show co-host, who was arrested in September for allegedly running a multi-million-dollar ticket re-sale Ponzi scheme, remarked several times on the bleak local broadcasting landscape that’s followed his resignation. In an obvious shot at WFAN’s “CMB” afternoon drive show with Chris Carlin, Maggie Gray and Bart Scott, Carton said, “It’d be great to prove to America, and to New York, that it is possible for a white guy, a black guy, and a woman to do an entertaining show.” Carton’s first guest was former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who sang “Meet the Mets” and was restrained, compared to some of the explosive comments he’s uttered during past radio appearances like when he destroyed Philadelphia fans. Carton supplied the sharpest dig of the segment when he remarked on local radio. “It appears to be a growing sentiment that there’s not a lot to listen to with me off the air,” Carton said. As expected, Carton was not feeble in his radio return. He also mentioned Mike Francesa and Chris Russo’s MLB Network appearance from a day earlier and said he would not be surprised if they returned to WFAN at some point. “Do not think for a minute that Mike and/or Chris have not put some inroads into WFAN’s ears, ‘Hey, a year from now, wouldn’t you like to have us both back to save WFAN?’” Carton said. “So that would not shock me at the least bit.” “ovah/undah” at 1.5 for the number of appearances he thinks Francesa will mae on “Carton & Friends.” The disgraced shock jock also addressed the charges he faces and the legal hurdles in front of him. As he’s fronted all along, Carton said his name will be cleared, and at that point, he will put his critics on blast. “I am aware of every single thing everybody has said about me, good, bad or indifferent,” Carton said. “There will be a day — that day is clearly not today — when I will have the opportunity to address each one of those people and each one of those stories and how they were written. I’m not going to do that today. As you know, I’m in the middle of a very serious legal situation, one of which I hope and pray, my fingers are crossed, will end with my exoneration and end in my favor. “Outside of that, out of respect for the legal process and to the judge in this case, I’m not going to talk about it on this show, other than what I’ve said everywhere I’ve been. And my comments have never wavered, they’re not going to waver, and I do look forward to my day or days in court,” he said. “I will do everything in my power to win that case and hope that I do. Outside of that, from now until then, I’m going to do what I do best and that’s sit here with you folks and do a radio broadcast.” The four-hour show was very similar to the podcast Carton launched after he resigned from WFAN in September in that it was a free-flowing, uncensored conversation mostly about sports, but with plenty of pop culture mixed in. Carton said they are still figuring out what the show is. But on Day One, right down to the look and feel of the new studio, the only thing that was missing, really, was Boomer Esiason to his right. Instead, Carton is now flanked by co-hosts Michelle Serpico and Corey Parson, and yes, Carton still interrupts Serpico’s updates the same way he did to Jerry Recco. There’s decent chemistry there, and that’s a tribute to Carton’s skill as a host. The show hopes to make it to terrestrial radio at some point, but for now, “Carton & Friends” can be easily found across sites like Twitter, YouTube and Periscope. Opening-day guests included Christie, Al Leiter, and curiously, Jim Leyritz, who has also been through the criminal justice grinder. In 2010, Leyritz was convicted of driving under the influence after he killed a mother of two. He was acquitted of DUI manslaughter, a more serious charge, that could have landed him in jail for up to 15 years. “Jim has gone through some stuff,” Carton said. Well, yes, but so has the family of the woman he killed. In the end, Carton’s talent as a talker is undeniable. It will be interesting to see the rivalries that grow between he and a list of well-known competitors, from “Boomer and Gio” and “Joe and Evan” on the FAN, to former co-host Sid Rosenberg and Bernard McGuirk, who take over mornings for the legendary Don Imus on WABC. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
