Craig carton arrested by FBI

Carton seemed to have multiple serious mental conditions, he never slept, his ADHD is off the charts bad, among others he has divulged, and some he hasn't, or didn't realize he had.  These type of issues usually lead to serious gambling issues, and/or drug issues, and medications can make compulsive gambling worse.

Now none of this excuses what he did, but can be used to view how I can see him ending up in such a situation.

Also, he's a jackass.

Boomer already committed his fraud between 1993 & 1995 with the help of an accomplice by the name of Bruce Coslet.

Maybe now I'll be able to go back to listening to the WFAN morning show.  He's simply unbearable.

I listen to the show an hour each day on the commute to work and Carton's constant talking about gambling as if it's so commonplace and everyone does it always led me to believe he was a bigtime gambler.  I never knew why WFAN let him riff on the subject all-in probably 2 hours a week.

I like the show, mostly for Boomer and Recco, but turned it off whenever a gambling segment came up as it didn't interest me and I felt it was as wrong as someone talking about the benefits of smoking or alcoholism.

I feel for his young family.  Finanically ruined and ridiculed.  They don't deserve what's coming.  Not to mention the FAN-  losing their 2 top shows to retirement and lawlessness, this could take them down.

read an article they may open up the checkbook for Francesa to stay a little bit longer.  Just an opinion article based on no facts but if the money is right then Francesa may want to stay for another year or so.

Read the same thing.  I think it makes a lot of sense for both sides.  With Carton likely out they get to keep some sort of consistency and familiarity with Francesca and on Francesca's side he gets a blank check while also getting to "Save face" and saying he's doing it for the company.  If this does happen though they either need to reduce his air time and please get this guy a partner.

I am sure he was making more than that considering that they were also simulcasted on CBS Sports Network and his business at the Barclays Center.

That being said...he has basically flushed his career down the toilet the same way Sid Rosenberg did when he was at the FAN. Boomer has to much going on with the FAN, doing NFL games for Westwood One and CBS and his own foundation to at this point have anything to do with Carton.

Years ago I had a friend who lived in Vegas, back in 82. Lost $40 in like 2 minutes & I was like "I work to hard to lose money that quickly", never gambled again. Now I stand behind lines of people buying scratch tickets with their paychecks in the same states who voted against Casinos. Hypocrites these states, so virtuous but they advertise these games on TV & suck the last dimes out of these suckers.

I buy ten bags of twizzlers at a time. Very happy with return on investment.

Carton is a such a grade A dickwad that it's hard to sympathize for him, but gambling is a disease. Conflicted about how I feel about this, contrary to my earlier post. Feel bad for his family.  And for the record, I enjoyed listening to him over the years, but only in small doses. As his fame and ego grew, it became harder to listen to him.

With his endearing personality, Carton should do quite well with the prison population.  Soon to be referred to as "shiv-recipient-boy".

Please, assuming he goes to prison it will be a white collar gig. If he makes enemies they will probably just change his internet password or give him rougher toilet paper.

anyone listen to WFAN today? Are they mentioning it at all? even in the 20/20?

Listened to Francesa a little bit nohting was mentioned.  Ofcourse, Francesa is probably dancing a jig over this.

The audience is already established. It doesn't take much to troll Jets fans (we should know) into tuning in, no matter the quality of the on-air talent. Hell, Beningo has a job.

I'm thinking the advertisers will pull back significantly from the morning show and with Francesa leaving likely the same thing on the afternoon drive show.  At the very least, Carton's actions are going to cause layoffs and FAN / advertiser turmoil.

Carton is so obsessed with the Howard Stern Show and it's not only reflected in his crappy morning show that somehow people listen to but it's also his lifestyle.  The $250k per year in rent to live in a NY condo is him trying imitate Howard's lifestlye because he has a double-penthouse on the same block in Manhattan.  The Gambling is him trying to out-degenerate the degenerate Artie Lange.

As a result of today, Mike stands to make the $5.6M Carton needed. Ironic, to say the least.

LMAO! Ironic indeed. By the way, watching the show they did at Florham Park he was so damn fidgety & bouncing around so much I thought Boomer was going to go into an epileptic fit. It was like he hadn't slept for a week. Dude must of known this was coming & suffered from some severe insomnia.

Moose.

Who is Moose?  Marc Malusis?  If so, I can't stand that guy.  I know most people won't like my choice but one of the few people on WFAN that I like is Richard Neer.  I know most people probably think he's too boring though.  Also, I think bringing back Jody Mac wouldn't be a terrible thing.  And I'm also a fan of Sid Rosenberg.  I think he could potentially replace Francesa.

It's not criminal to be in debt. Why the **** did he do this elaborate scheme? He makes a ton of money he couldn't get a loan to cover his debt?

I'm guessing the guy he owed $850,000 to wasn't willing to wait very long to get paid

I was never a fan of his as a radio host but I feel terrible for the guy and for his wife and kids.  It sounds like he has a severe gambling addiction and his life really spiraled out of control.  I can only imagine what's going through his head right now.  (note he's out on bail at the moment)

One thing he has going for him is that he has a heck of a story.  Maybe he can write a book and make a lot of money that way?

Also I know this isn't going to happen but how amazing would it be if Francesa (who apparently Carton has kind of a feud with) ponied up a few hundred thousand to help out Carton's wife and kids.  That would really make Francesa the good guy and be one heck of a way to exit from the station!  Pretty sure he's going to continue working (and for big bucks) so I'm sure he could afford it.  I know it's not going to happen but that would be an incredible story.

I know I'm almost alone in the sentiment, but I'd openly welcome Mike staying on another year.   New York sports radio is awful to begin with, there's nothing after he goes.

If you look at this from a WFAN competition standpoint, ESPN and Sirius XM could give Francesa a ridiculous payday to put the station in the rearview mirror forever.   Hit 'em while they're down, grab the Francesa audience, grab the demo, grab the advertisers.

As a result of today, Mike stands to make the $5.6M Carton needed. Ironic, to say the least.

You're definitely not alone on this.  I can't stand Francesa's ego but it actually kind of makes the show funny.  As far as him as a sports analyst, I'm not necessarily a big fan but there are far worse than him out there.

A second lawsuit filed against Carton this past May accused him of skipping out on $114,116.13 in rent on a Soho business office leases under the name Advance — one of his bogus ticket-selling companies.

Thanks

This is a serious charge when it is coupled with the other charges.

I just caution everyone from jumping on the guy, the law has undergone a tremendous metamorphosis the last 15 years and systemic abuse is ridiculous.

I remember Sid being at WFAN but I don't remember how he "flushed his career down the toilet".  What was that story?
