Jets PK Chandler Catanzaro gets kicked when down ... by former teammate

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Chandler Catanzaro missed two field-goal attempts Sunday in the rain, and he felt awful after the New York Jets' 25-20 loss to the Atlanta Falcons.

"There's no excuse," he said.

Imagine how he'll feel when he discovers this:

The currently unemployed Ross Martin, who lost out to Catanzaro in a training-camp battle, posted a video on Sunday night that shows him drilling three straight field goals from 50 yards in the rain at a park in nearby Manhattan.

If it's possible to throw shade in the rain, Martin just did it to Catanzaro, who missed from 46 and 48 yards. He also had makes from 43 and 46.

Catanzaro and Martin waged a spirited battle in the summer. The Jets surprised many by picking Catanzaro, but they felt he was much stronger than Martin on kickoffs.

Bitter much?

This is actually kind of hilarious.

In shorts with no pressure...sooooo impressed

I didn't watch the video but unless this guy is going on Facebook Live it doesn't matter. People know that he can miss and not post that video right?

The kicker today was bad. But it was an absolute monsoon. He will have to go back to not missing kicks next week or then they can think about revisiting the position.

You can blame the kicker for missing long field goals in the middle of an ocean. The long snappers were even having problems. Or you can say hey Jeremy Kerley don't fumble the ball so we can try and win.

This was my reaction. Why do I suspect he wouldn’t have posted it if he’d missed even one of them?

Not like there was an unedited video that began with his drive over to the field, so we know these weren't the first and only 3 he attempted. And even still he had the non-pressure of knowing that, if he botched any/all of them, no one (other than himself) would have known about it.

Personally I think this is pretty low class of Martin to do this.

Why? When you’re unemployed do you not post your resume around? Kickers are so interchangeable in the league that he make get a tryout from that video. Also, in the video does he call out Chandler or anything like that?

Good for Martin. Another dumb decision by Bowles.

Bowles went with the veteran & the ball gets moved out to the 25 yard line now & teams returning kicks are much more likely to NOT get to the 25. Every decision Bowles makes backfires. Keep trotting Skrine out there too, the only decisions that Bowles makes that are good is when he's forced to sit a sh*tty player due to injury.

Chandler makes the 2 he missed we win the game.

Special teams: Bryant was steady as Jets kicker Chandler Catanzaro missed two field goals in a weather-condition game. Bryant made field goals of 23, 45, 37 and 29 yards.

how do you know that? how do we know the game plays out the same if he makes those kicks? it wasn't a last second kick that determined the outcome, they were earlier ion the game, if he makes it things change. There were a million reasons we lost, the missed kicks(really the shorter one) is one of the reasons.

We lost 25-20 2 missed FG's made = 6 points we win 26-25.

I understand the math but if we makes them there's no guarantee the game plays out the same, strategy changes by time and score. Remember they went for 2 at 22-17, if we had kicked both FGs we would have had 23 pts at that time and Atl kicks the PAT and we are tied.  so many things change if those kicks are made, we can't say we win if we make them.

The odds of us winning are much better if he makes those 2 FG's.

What-ifs that are totally valid:

  • 2 missed FGs (46 yds, 48 yds) in a monsoon

What-ifs totally unworthy of factoring into the totally valid what-ifs above:

  • 2 botched snaps by Atl which we recovered in FG range, where we went 1/2 on FGs on those drives because the offense didn't move the ball;
  • all Atlanta's dropped passes, including an easy TD right in Hooper's hands with Lee "covering" him;
  • a PR TD reversed on a borderline-at-best block in the back call (like with some holding or PI flags, we've all seen far more blatant go uncalled)

Most NFL workouts for kickers tend to come in non-pressure situations, so I don't have a problem with Martin trying to get a job that way.

But that has nothing to do with Catanzaro.  He shouldn't feel badly whatsoever for missing kicks in those situations, or have to worry about Martin coming for his job based on his missed kicks or the video.

That would be incorrect, in a tryout situation the K has the pressure of trying to earn a JOB.  Martin is doing nothing but hurting himself by posting such nonsense.  there are 32 teams, we constantly see teams changing kickers- why haven't they given him a call? why hasn't he earned a job?  he needs to look in the mirror rather than bash those that beat him out.

how soon people forget how Martin missed easy FG's any chance he got  ,  while i dont  think Catanzaro is good , the fact is that Martin is worse

and Catanzaro made some good kicks for us this year.

Ross was 4 for 5 in the preseason, and Chandler was 2 for 3, but please, tell us more how much worse Ross is.
