I'll gladly bet that he is more likely to get an extension than be fired.  the people in charge of this team and those that have influence on them do not actually watch how the team is coached.  All they see is 'the team was projected to win 3 games, they win 5 thus the coach is a hero'

The people in charge don't watch how the team is coached? Seriously?

I don't know Kevin, you told me you were screaming your head off on 3rd down and they didn't do so good on offense or defense there.

It’s seems, many teams other than the Jets have ****ed the tooth fairy on numerous visits.

Going off big time on fans calling for Petty and Hackenburg and actually makes a good point or two, mostly having to do with neither have earned the shot. Key is that the team knows that although McCown is not the future, the two younger guys aren't either

Did Jared Goff earn his job?  Bortles?  No.  But their teams played them through the sh*t and are better off for it.

The issue is, you could easily have 3 wins with Petty and that’s is infinitely more valuable than 4 with McCown.

Another movie we’ve seen too many times before — and this movie is no classic.  Can’t understand how an O line can come out as flat as they did after 10 days to heal and off a win on national tv the prior Thursday night.  Team absolutely sucks wind on the road, which is emblematic of most young teams.  But the head scratcher in this case is that the youngsters pretty much played great  (meaning the D) especially given the lousy field position to protect they had all day.  It was the vet QB that really stunk up the joint, along with his O line.  The OC didn’t help.  His game plan was stuffed and his “adjustments” were ineffective.  Totally expected that TB would stuff the box against the run and force McCown to beat them.  The question I would ask Bowles is why they didn’t seem to game plan for that in the first place and not have an effective counter in the second.  I mean, has he or his OC heard of the screen pass?

Goff and Bortles were top first round picks and the teams that they play for believe in them

Petty, well not even close in either score ... there was a reason for that and we saw it when he played last year

This is true, the investment was much greater.  But than if that’s your rational for not playing them, then why zero urgency around upgrading him with more young talent?

And Hack was basically a top 50 pick which I consider the meat of the draft, what’s the excuse with him and again, if it’s they think he’s bad like Petty...why are they on the roster and why zero urgency to upgrade?

This is the most  mind blowing idiotic excuse i have ever heard and the fools that use it should be kicked in the nuts.

Know who is most responsible to get a defense off the field?  THE FING DEFENSE!

We put ALL of our resources into the D, we have a Defensive head coach and everything we do favors the D.  And the D when we really need them falls on their ass and people have the gall to blame the offense.

Pathetic.

The defense wasn’t the problem. Sure they

had some mistakes but they sure as hell got screwed by the offense today

Rationale for not playing them is they are and will never be good enough. Both had their chance and showed that. They also show what they have in practice every single week. Apparently, neither shows enough. McCown gives them the best chance to win an a game to game basis. Every win builds a winning culture. Tankers are losers and always will be.

Because the team is the same as last year? This is moronic. This team and system are different and this offense actuall would fit Petty more than last seasons joke of an offense.

So then why are they on the team and why didn’t the Jets address the QB position this offseason?

That is fine to say but if it is true, then the GM and the HC have to go if the best that they could have possibly have had this season is McCown.  He is a Journeyman QB for a reason.

McCown isn't on the Jets starting as an act of God; he is here because after three years leading the Jets the GM and the HC felt that he was the best that they could get and do and if that is the case they should be fired. Fired!

And no I have not called for Bowles or Macs head and want to give them time but if their excuse is McCown "gives us the best chance to win" after 3 years and you have neither identified nor developed a better alternative to 38 year old McCown, then yes you should be fired, period.

You don't get to be the reason why the most important position on the field sucks after 3 years and say lets do it again next year, no, not if I am in charge you don't.

Then we will agree to disagree?

Perhaps seeing Petty look awful in three practices this spring prejudiced my thinking, and by awful, I mean some of the worst play I've seen ever

They gave both the younger players a good chance this year and signed a vet as insurance. Results are obvious

Also, you make it sound like this is an easy thing to do

They did? Oh you must be referring to the preseason where Petty put up stats that would say he could play in this system.

mccown is not playing at anything more than a rookie qb level

The results were obvious before the offseason and signing Josh McCown should not deter you from properly addressing the postion.

Never said it was easy but while the Jets have slapped their dicks at the position the rest of the QB needy teams in the NFL have properly addressed the postion and are better of for it.  Meanwhile, in Jets land.

Lol, Goff looked worse than Petty last year. And Petty clearly improved this preseason and put up a perfect game in his last start, the third preseason game, with is the one that is most like regular season. But no, he did nothing to earn a shot? Please.

The Petty and Hack haters will never see it. There is a good sized portion of our fan base that is crippled with fear at starting young QBs and would rather be mediocre then take a chance to develop our own QB. It is really sad how limited the vision is.
