Butt Fumble - An oral history of the NY Jets

This is typical ESPN ****ery, but McElroy has it right: the reason that play happened was because Vince Wilfork did some superhuman sh*t and threw Brandon Moore five yards backward. We can rip Sanchez for it, but no one with a basic awareness of physics could have foreseen that occurring.

McElroy: Mark follows the fullback, and our fullback kind of sold down on the play, and [then-Patriots defensive tackle] Vince Wilfork literally throws our guard Brandon Moore right at Mark, and I mean hard. Mark was kind of jogging, and it was Moore getting thrown back into Mark, which caused him to go backward and the ball to become dislodged. It was like getting punched in the face by a 300-pound glove. People who know the game saluted Wilfork for what he did as much as they condemned Mark. Wilfork was unbelievable, such a beast.

This is so incorrect, it's not even funny.

At no point does Wilfork throw Moore anywhere, let alone 5 yards backwards.

McElroy: The Tim Tebow factor added something to it too. People wanted Mark to fail just because they were rooting for [then-backup QB] Tebow. People were chanting for Tebow by the end of that quarter, but really, that had been going on the whole season. Mark was such an easy target -- the handsome, cool guy from Southern California, doing a spread for GQ. I think the world of Mark. Everyone loved Mark on that team, but I don't know if Joe Fan loved Mark. I know lots of people loved to hate him. Of course, with Twitter and Vines and GIFs just getting started, it was the perfect amount of video time to share and a way for social media trolls to flex their muscle and put it in as many different forms as possible and spread it as far as humanly possible.

Wilfork may have not thrown him 5 yards, but he is clearly manipulating Moore, lifting and turning him directly into Sanchez. You can see Wilfork extending his arms in a press while doing it. Anyone that missed how this play unfolded is guilty of "follow the football" type of watching.

Here's another angle.giphy (1).gif

Where exactly is Wilfork lifting him? He stays on his feet until Sanchez plows into him.

I’ll admit to some hyperbole, but look where Moore ends up in relation to the rest of the line, then he gets jacked at the last second besides.

This was part of what may have been the worst 66 second stretch by any team in the history of the NFL.  3 TDs in 66 seconds:

83 yard TD pass from Brady to Vereen.  TD #1.

Kickoff for a touchback.  Second play from scrimmage following the kickoff was the buttfumble.  Scoop and score.  TD #2.

Joe Mcknight fumbles the kickoff.  Another scoop and score.  TD.3

5 plays.  3 TDs.  66 seconds.  Game goes from 7-0 to 28-0 in the blink of an eye.  And every year around this time, we get to relive it.  Again.   And Again.  And Again.  If any team has ever played a worse minute than that, I would love to hear about it.

I'll concede that he's not getting great push on Wilfork, but he's doing a decent job handling him 1 on 1.

Wilfork doesn't move him backwards, and barely moves him laterally. Sanchez just runs into him.

This is such BS! Sanchez had terrible spacial awareness. He never felt when defenders were near, was terrible leaving the pocket too early or not stepping up at the right time or just throwing the ball away. How many times watching Sanchez did you see him hold the ball & not feel pressure coming? I can't tell you how many the times I screamed from my chair, "watch out", lol.

That Colts Monday Night game last year came real close! Luck threw 3 TDs in 3 series where you didn't even see defenders on the TV. The last one, I just grabbed the remote, said I hate this team, lol and turned it off.

Sanchez runs face first into his ass. I can’t believe some of you schmucks analyze this sh*t like the Zapruder film.

Actually it was a good play. Nothing embarrassing has ever happened to this franchise

Oh, look at the obfuscating establishment tools coming in here to tell the lemming public to ignore the man hiding behind the curtain. #staywoke

Soooo, the angle that shows Moore being lifted off his left foot, subsequently pressed by Wilfork to his right, and then into Sanchez, showing the exact moment of contact is no good for you. Instead you go with the angle that shows Moore being lifted off his left foot, completely obscures Wilfork doing what I originally pointed out, and relies on the viewer to infer the moment of impact. This is how you want to make your case? K.

Wow, Moore lifts his left foot, then gets moved 6 inches to his right. You're right, how could anyone possibly have avoided running directly into his ass.

it's been said it's a game of inches.  if moore keeps those 6 inches maybe sanchez squeezes by.  the point is the patsies completely blew up whatever play they were running and got a td in the process.  that game was so forgettable.  the defense completely tanked too.

We get "the Butt Fumble".  But hey, we're also part of one of the most famous plays of another team - "The Fake Spike".  "So I guess we have that going for us"

Was this part meant ironically?  Granted, I'll admit there were plenty of us ready to be done with Sanchez at that point, but there were very, very few actual Jets (not Tebow) fans who really wanted to see Tebow play.

After all, McElroy may recall one of the few well received decisions of that entire season was when Sanchez was benched for, well... him.

It’s amazing the excuses people still make for mark Suckchez. He had a top defense, top running game with strong line and vet receivers. He was one of the worst qbs in the history.

Ok crybabies lol... I have no pride in them and hate everything about how the jets are run and I'm finding it harder and harder and possibly out of the question for me to be able to "support" this trash as long as a Johnson is the owner... but to go along with the most embarassing self indiced only the jets fvckery, we have the hands down most iconic images aka moments...
