I hope not. I'm praying he drops to the Jets. Darnold, Allen, they are still the top ranked QBs no?

Right now they are until these idiot old school coaches start building offenses around these wildly athletic guys like Jackson. I still can't believe how little the Jets throw down the field when you can't breath on a receiver without getting a flag.

Its like 2017 & Bowles coaches like he's playing in the black & blue division of 1950. Harbaugh proved you can harness a fast athletic guy by moving him around & getting defensive players out of position. We're a dinosaur team with a dinosaur at QB.

Over 300 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT gets him knocked out of the 1st?

Over 200 of those yards and 2 TDs came in the 4th quarter after they were down 33-7.  He was not good when it counted.

That said, I don't see one bad game knocking a guy out of the 1st.

Ok, gotta admit I didn't watch the game.  Just looked quick at the stat line.

I've been keeping an eye on him and the kid has been improving as a passer almost every game and his huge X factor is that the kid is electric running the ball but he only does it when he has to.  He's 100% a pass first QB with the ability to burn anyone on the defense.  This is awesome because the Jets could end up with Darnold, Rosen, or Jackson and I'd be ecstatic.

I'll be honest, I am done trying to predict who is going to be a good NFL QB.  I have no clue who will be good and who will flop.

If one of Rosen, Darnold, Jackson or Mayfield winds up in the Jets, I'll be really stoked.

I wouldn’t be. Any young QB on this team is a lost cause with the current coaching staff and the current GM. It does no one anyone god to draft a QB in the first round when the coach won’t play him and the GM will sign some other retread to start. It’s cyclical with these buffoons.

I would have to say that with Morton and Bates, we have the most QB friendly coaches than we have have had in a VERY long time.  Yes, I’m frustrated that they refuse to play Petty but I think that has more to do with Bowles and his adversarial attitude towards Fitz, BMarsh, Decker, and Mangold.  Petty was in that crowd.

That said, they should have traded him and brought in a different QB.

I fully understand why they refuse to play Hack.  And last week’s Buffalo game solidified what ever reasoning they have for not playing him.

But they have to know that they cannot win with McCown and they can’t rebuild again next year with all the $ we have to spend to get to the salary floor.  The front office has to solve the QB issue next off season.  If it’s the case of trading up and taking Darnold or Rosen, standing pat and taking Jackson or Mayfield, or taking a guy in the 2nd, like Stidham or Ferguson, I’m pretty confident that we will see a vastly different attitude from the CS.  If not, we are going to see a coaching change at the end of next season.

A run-first QB who could need three or more years learning to be ready to throw passes at the NFL level??

No thanks.  Not at the #1 pick (which we're not going to have anyway, nor will we trade three #1 picks+ to get).

Other than that, great thread, would read again.

And I have said it before if Petty leaves the Jets and has a decent career all because Bowles was "petty" over Fitz, I will personally hunt Bowles out and whilst shaking his hand immediately kick him in the balls!!!

I couldn't agree with you more.

I remember thinking that Vince Young was going to be the next Steve McNair or Donovan McNabb after watching him almost single-handedly lead Texas to victory in the Rose Bowl and I was ticked off when the Jets didn't pick him when they had the chance - and he wound up sucking.

I had similar thoughts about Deshawn Watson thinking he could be really good - but I was a little more uncertain about him - because of how Vince Young turned out in the NFL.

Again, the Jets pass on him and the Texans take him and he winds up lighting up the NFL right up until his season-ending injury.

That's proof enough for me that you can just never tell.

Best attitude to take tbqh.

The only thing that will break me is if we don't draft and don't sign.

I.e. We go into 2018 with McCown, Hack and some late-round or low-value FA/Practise Squad guy.

My brain will literally melt.

This is the first season he’s completed more passes than rush attempts and it’s barely.  He ran more than he completed yesterday.  He wants to run because he’s 1000x better running than throwing.  I think he finally cracked 60% completion on a season with yesterday’s performance.  There is nothing about his game that makes you comfortable with him in the pocket as an NFL QB.

He should have been ejected yesterday too.

Hard pass unless they’re converting him to WR.

We'll all find out about Lamar soon enough. I'd have no problem if the Jets took him & handed him over to Bates to work with. When Michael Vick played the NFL was still a place where killing the QB was fair game, not the pussified version we see today.

With the rules allowing the QB to throw the ball away when out of the pocket and being able to slide to give themselves up, QBs like Jackson are pains in the azzes. Do you know when his running talents really show up? In the 4th quarter when defenses aren't nearly as hyped up & are tiring. Russell Wilson is proving that  mobile QB can be successful in the NFL.

Instead of building a huge Oline like the Raiders, if you draft Jackson, you draft olineman that can move like the Dallas Oline. You give Lamar a great running game & you put in a lot of motion, ball fakes, QB keeps on short yardage, play action roll outs ect. Will drive defenses crazy! It would be the 1st time the Jets had an offense that defenses had to prepare for and could DICTATE to the defense instead of the other way around.
