JiFtheOracle
If you are a New York Jets fan, it is probably safe to say that you believe in luck and superstition, simply because that is usually the only thing the team is able to put your trust into. Each and every year, or so it seems, the Jets have relied on luck to get them over the edge of mediocrity, which hasn’t all worked too well. The last time it did? 2009. And the Jets were in a VERY similar situation as they find themselves now: The Jets were in this exact situation in 2009. 4-6 at Week 12 with the Panthers coming to town Jets won 17-6 and went to the AFCCG While 2009 now seems like a distant memory, the small sliver of light portrayed from this should sit pretty in the back of any Jets fan’s head. While it is highly unlikely things unravel in the same sort of way, it is only right that the fans have hope. What’s the difference between these two teams? Well, in hindsight, the 2009 Jets consisted of quite a talented roster despite their record heading into Week 12. The Jets went with rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez, and were lucky to find some immediate success. Surrounding him were some talented receivers in Jerricho Cotchery and Braylon Edwards, with the addition of running back Thomas Jones. The pass protection and defensive secondary were also stout with players such as Nick Mangold, D’Brickashaw Ferguson, Darelle Revis, and Bart Scott leading the charge. While that roster certainly consisted of some young talent as this year’s does, it also blended in a nice mix of veterans with plenty of fuel still left in the tank, and a solid running game. This year’s Jets team lacks that. But in that same regard, anything is possible. The pieces are certainly there for the Jets to make their miracle run this year as the team has quickly developed under pressure. That was certainly the case for the 2009 team that was also 4-6 more than halfway through the season. They were able to turn things around and finish at 9-7, good enough for a Wild Card spot. This year, an AFC Wild Card spot could possibly allow a team with an 8-8 record to slip in due to the mass competition on the lower side of the conference. The Jets however, don’t think another mediocre finish will cut it. Head coach Todd Bowles was asked on Friday if it would be necessary for the team to win out in order to secure a playoff berth: “Excuse the language, but that’s probably a no-s–t statement,” Bowles said. “We’re trying to win every game.” As they should. But it’s all talk until the Jets go out there and prove themselves. With statistically, the toughest remaining schedule in the NFL, the Jets will need a whole lot of luck and superstition to make it out of the AFC alive. Their first test at securing a miracle run comes this Sunday with a tough matchup against the Carolina Panthers.

It's time to get ready for a play off run!!!!!!!!! a little confidence can go a long way but this team has too many limitations on offense to make this a reality. they can't convert those 3rd and short plays reliably enough to think they can make a serious run. and mccown has some serious limitations going down field. i'm not going to buy into the hype. the talking heads have nothing else to write about since their darling giaints are flailing and the knicks and nets are being what they usually are. call me if they get to 7-
