STAT OF THE WEEK

There were 10 quarterbacks picked in the first five rounds of the 2016 draft.

Nine have played. The one who hasn’t, Christian Hackenberg, was the fourth passer chosen in ’16. The nine others have combined to play 113 games.

The quarterback drafted 40 spots after Hackenberg, Jacoby Brissett, started his 12th NFL game Sunday. Brissett will be either a future starter or one of the league’s best backups when Andrew Luck returns for Indianapolis in 2018.

The quarterback drafted 42 spots after Hackenberg, Cody Kessler, started eight games for the Browns last year.

The quarterback drafted 49 spots after Hackenberg, Connor Cook, started a playoff game for Oakland last season.

The quarterback drafted 84 spots after Hackenberg, Dak Prescott, has started all 28 games since being drafted by Dallas and is the Cowboys’ long-term quarterback.

Hackenberg has been active and dressed for two games.

Hackenberg has been inactive for 25 games.

What is the point of this? That the pick was horrible? Knew that already.

The sooner you let everyone forget hes there, the sooner the Jets boot the kid out the back door. At midnight. On a new moon. Probably on a weekend.

They just need everyone to forget hes there. And then *poof*....hes gone.....

I don't think we can underestimate the power of the NY press, and the fear that the Johnson's have for it.

They can play McCown, for $125K of cash PER GAME and FUTURE CAP SPACE, to avoid being vilified in the media.

Playing one of the young QBs allows the Jets to see what they have, give them practice, and perhaps create some trade or compensatory draft pick value.

Now, that is what a smart team does.

So 3 or 4 of those guys turned out okay the rest suck and hack who was drafted as a developmental project who hasn't played a single nfl game in his first two years is 110 percent a bust? I'm not saying the kid is going to be a star or even decent but I would love to see him play a real game or two before we cut him surely there has been an nfl player before that a team cut too soon without even seeing what they were capable of...

You don't understand. Bowles is a master QB evaluator and groomer.

Christian Hackenberg is literally just hanging out collecting Jets gear, meeting NFL players, going on road trips and learning to play a position he'll never actually play and getting paid quite well.  It's amazing.  They're going to keep him here for the entire length of his contract to just learn stuff.  Never actually apply it.  Just learn.

Maybe Mac is starting a new trend of wasting a 2nd round pick a guy who will never play but will spend so much time in the film room, QB's meeting and being mentored by savvy journeyman vets, that he blossoms into one heck of a QB coach in the future.

Chess vs Checkers, baby!
