Mara and Tisch wisely pulled an executive move to tank for a franchise QB where are you Chris Johnson?

While Chris Jonson is proudly grinning about not tanking for this inevitable 6-10 season Giants ownership is shrewdly positioning themselves to grab a franchise QB. With Geno starting the Giants are securing themselves that top 3 pick and the ability to match any trade up with SF. With draft positioning changing for the Jets as much as 10 slots based on the results of one game it is critical for the Jets to have a smart owner who is looking out for the Jets future. Leaving the sole decision with Bowles who wants to win as many games as possible to pad his resume and make it harder to fire him is insane. Mike Maccagnan has zero sway on who starts he is powerless as Bowles does not report to him. The responsibility to make sure Hackenberg starts to optimize our chances of getting a premium pick and not mid-teens based on a swing of one game solely lies with Chris Johnson.

I REPEAT DO NOT BLAME BOWLES FOR CONTINUING TO START MCCOWN IT IS CHRIS JOHNSON WHO IS TO BLAME!!!!

You don't tank until mathematically eliminated. Even then, those pesky players can still mess up your plans. They've got contracts to worry about and no one wants to be seen as "mailing it in." Look at Snacks' reaction to such accusations.

So the rest of the world views the Giants as a dung heep but somehow they still manage outdo us?  Boy, you can spin just about any story into misery on this board.

Think how insane it is that Giants ownership has the guts to bench the face of their franchise for a decade and a half for Geno while Chris Johnson sits on his ass watching Bowles continue to trot out McCown. Both teams are out of the playoffs, both teams were starting old QB's with young inexperienced backup QB's. So tell me why Giants benched Eli But Jets aren't touching McCown?

Because this is a young team busting it's a__ every down, not a directionless wreck like the Giants have become.  If they think the club are phoning it in, they will just lay down too.  The last three games I doubt even they will care though.  But not now when they still think they have a chance.

yep.  it's a little different with the giaints.  this tank was forced on them by the stupid hc and the punks they have on the team.  now they will be evaluating players for next season and not caring so much about wins.  but who knows? players like geno need wins if only to get a better contract for next season so it is possible that they play hard and win a few.

McCown is the only viable back on the team. Regardless if they start him or not. Petty and Hack are both viable QBs for optimized tanking.

When they get a franchise qb and are good for the next 15 years again, nobody is going to give a crap about this season

Meanwhile we’ll keep reeling in the 7-9 seasons

They should've said the season is a lost cause and they just wanted to give Davis Webb a look.  That would've probably prevented all backlash.  I think the idea that the Giants would replace Eli to get a look at a Jets cast-off (Geno) is what people are flipping out about.  Geno does give them the best chance to lose though so I think the Giants are going about things correctly.  To the people who thinking tanking doesn't exist, I think this is a good example that it does.

I want a reporter to ask Chris Johnson how old he thinks Josh McCown is and see if he guesses within five calendar years.

More likely Johnson got a brief glimpse at McCown in the hallway once, and ever since then he's convinced our QB is Dolph Lungren.

Since no other team has Stallone, we're set.

I agree, upper management needs to make the decision for what is best for the Jets future. The coach will always coach to win the next game, and that's a good thing. Pull McCown.

Upper management? Like who? Woody? Chris?  They brought Tebow in. Upper management is the problem IMO.

Well Mike Maccagnon can't he has no control over Bowles they are on equal footing. Bowles doesn't care about the future he is trying to get that extension by continuing the false narrative that they overachieved because some media blowhards misread the talent on the team. Chris Johnson is the only one who can do anything the blame lies squarely with him.

This is the end of the line for Eli & everyone knows it. This signals the Giants will be turning the page on Eli & are most definitely in the running to pick one of these QBs coming out in the 2018 draft! So now we have another organization thinning the herd in front of us that before the season began weren't even in our thought process!

Now we have SO MANY teams who need QBs that it will make our job even harder to find one. You already had the obvious ones, Browns & 49ers, but now you can't even look past the Colts (Will Luck ever be the same?), Bills? (They benched Tyrod once already), Vikings? (A lot of ? Marks there), now add in the surprise which is the Giants, and the Broncos, how about the Skins if they lose Cousins? It's absolutely crazy!

Week 13 starting QBs in the NFL- Geno Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brett Hundley, Jacoby Brissett, Trevor Siemian, Matt Moore, Josh McCown. Holy sh*t! And people wonder why viewership is way down. Looking at that list & realizing that in his 2nd year Christian Hackenberg doesn't even dress for games is a fireable offense! Many GMs have missed on QBs but Macc based on that list of names above went above & beyond all of our past GM mistakes. Even Gholston was in his uniform on the sidelines.

Not only that Woody overruled Bradway on Russell Wilson in round 2 because of that idiotic Tebow trade

The big difference between the franchises here is simple...

The Jets run their organization with a Media first and Football second approach.

The Giants run their organization with a Football first and media second approach.

The Johnsons are obsessed with media perception.  The Tebow trade was a giant pr stunt.  Ditto for the Favre trade but at least that actually made logical football sense since we had no qb

Mac and Bowles are getting extensions because in their low iq heads this 4-12 season is a moral victory

Excellent post!  Woody has always been a media whore. The team be damned.

As I keep saying. It’s the right move but they putting in the wrong player. That messes it up

You know what the wild part of this is? Mara (iirc) admitted they looked into signing Kaepernick, but backed off because of all the hysterical letters they got from fans, so they signed Geno instead and now those same fans are hysterical. One of those intrepid (nauseating) columnists who keep reciting the list of bad QBs not-named-Kaepernick who’ve taken a snap this year should get Mara on the record now.

Figures since Kaepernick has played like a glorified Geno

They can get away with it because they have Pat Hanlon, who steers Giants coverage with an iron fist. Meanwhile, the Jets PR group is the same one who compared PSLs to taxi medallions.

This does not have to be that hard.  For the Johnsons, they can frame it like this:

  • No team can tank from the beginning.
  • We put our best effort forward to make the playoffs, and in this mini-11 game season we are 4-7 and virtually eliminated.
  • That is far better than we thought we would be-good overall work by Bowles and Macc.
  • Now, Bowles and Macc, there is alot you can do better.   But based on the positives you have shown, we are going to give you 1 year extensions.
  • Now stop playing McCown, and let's see what Petty and Hack can do.  Maybe they can be trade value, backups, or even start next year if the best move based on where we pick is BPA and not QB.
  • But Bowles and Mac have to do better in 2018.
  • Bowles-penalties need to be cut down, which may mean cutting idiot players.  Kacey should be upgraded-hopefully he gets that Tennessee job if he is not a child molester.  You need to work with Morton to avoid the brain burps at critical moments.  And we need you to be more deferential to Scouting and allow them to pick players with the roster as a whole in mind.
  • Macc-you need to build a better OL and do a better job drafting based on positional value.  To help you, we are bringing in John Dorsey has Team President-you can work with him on drafting.

That is what I would do here.  But this is not me.
