Tre'Davious White is in the concussion protocol after Gronk hit

Tre'Davious White suffered one of the dirtiest hits in recent memory when Rob Gronkowski elbowed him in the back of the head after the play was over and he was on the ground during the New England Patriots' 23-3 victory over the Buffalo Bills. Now, he is dealing with the aftermath of that play.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott told Mike Rodak of ESPN that he was not happy with the play, and that now, White is in the concussion protocol. He has been a complete revelation for the Bills this season, and if their playoff hopes are going to stay alive, they'll need him for the stretch run.

The fact that White now has to be evaluated for a concussion due to something Gronkowski did so late after a play ended does not bode well for the Patriots' tight end when it comes to his discipline for the act. The NFL takes head injuries very seriously especially when they don't occur in the regular course of play. There is a very serious chance that Gronkowski could be suspended for this just because he lost his temper.

The Patriots will have to prepare for the Miami Dolphins without knowing Gronkowski's fate. The play was undoubtedly dirty, and Gronkowski will be punished in some manner. It might be a fine, it might be a suspension, but he is not getting off scot free for this.

Love how this guy gets the reputation as a player impossible to dislike.  Yesterday's behavior should end his "fun-loving" reputation.  

He also partly blamed the dirty hit on frustration over calls (or lack of calls) he was being assessed.  GFY Gronk, you've been getting away with pushing off for years.  You're garbage.

Was this a cheap shot? Of course it was. But I have seen worse and I have seen it happen numerous occasions, just this season. If White did not get a concussion this would be a nothingburger, Gronk would get a 1 game suspension and everyone would move on. Standard issue. Like it or not Gronk is one of the best TE's, well, possibly ever. And he is not a dirty player. And he is probably a nice guy if you sat down and had a beer with him. Everybody reaches a boiling point sometimes and does something they regret.

Definitely. The NFL can't allow players to go around headhunting much less defenseless players on the ground. If this suspension isn't at least 2 games (upheld, not 2 games then reduced to 1) then Goodell is just trying to get in Kraft's good graces. Talib and Crabtree were suspended two games (reduced to 1) and it was an even fight where both engaged.

I heard someone say he should get a suspension plus however many games White misses.

I don't really know how that would ever work or how it would be governed but I get the point of it... You cost someone playing time, you lose yours too..

In addition to whatever suspension he receives for his action, he should sit for every game White is unable to play due to his injury.  This is very different than a cheap shot while a play is in progress -- the dude's head was sandwiched between the ground and Gronk's shot to his noggin.

He hit the guy in the neck/head while he was facedown on the ground, without any provocation other than being pissed that the guy picked off the pass.  It's the cheapest of cheap shots.  On the level of Ndamukong Suh.

Trying to remember if there's been something like this this year... A late, clearly intentional hit, that caused a concussion and possible lost playing time.

Maybe there's already a precedent set, or maybe the NFL will want to make a statement. Who knows... I'm guessing 2 games.

Apologies only matter when they're earnest.  As he was leaving the game he acted like a punk, and in the postgame interview, he blamed the refs.

He displayed no remorse.  Just entitlement.

It means exactly nothing, and should have no bearing on his punishment.  

Sure, he'll take his suspension and people will move on.  But now if he ever does anything like this again, he'll face worse than whatever he gets.  And he also now has his target on his back from a division rival.

Of course there are.  But him being a first-time offender doesn't take away from the act itself.  Guys who are known as cheap shot artists at least most of the time are responding to someone else's instigation.  This had no instigation.  He went after a guy laying face down after having the audacity of picking off a pass.  Pathetic.

Has Burfict ever apologized? A one time offender is going to get a longer leash than a repeat one. He lost his cool during a football game. Dirty play, looks terrible and he'll get suspended.

1st Time offender argument gets thrown out the window when it’s that bad. Plus He is a tight end, playing with the best qb of all time Who very rarely throws INT, so how many times has he actually been in a position where he could tackler/hit a ball handler? For that ratio of bad hits to good he should be punished double. 

It wasn’t just a late hit, about 5 seconds went by before he tried to injure a player on the ground. Make an example of that scumbag.

So since AJ Green's QB isnt as good as Brady - his punishment should be lighter than Gronks? Is that the logic were using here? Did Green even get suspended?

What if Gronk had snapped that man's neck and he was a cripple that would have been OK with you cause Gronk didn't get some calls?

Dalton 66 ints vs Brady’s 22 in past 4 years, that’s 3 times as many times AJ was in a position to hit someone. I did not see what AJ did, I am not looking around to try to make foolish comparisons to protect a patriots player. You are though.

What does Gronk being one of the best TE's have ANYTHING to do with calling it what it was: A bush-league cheap shot that could have ended another player's career?

I'm sure Todd Bertuzzi is a helluva guy to sit with and have a beer.  Why don't you go ask Steve Moore what he thinks of him, whether he is a nice guy or not?
