What's your ideal offseason plan?

I know there's still 4 more games to be played and we're not technically out of it, but I think most of us anticipate a 6-10 maybe 7-9 at best finish.  Assuming that is the case, who would you re-sign, who would you cut, who would sign/trade for, who would you draft?

Our Projected Cap Space to start FA: $80 million

Our Notable UFA:

  1. Josh McCown
  2. Morris Claiborne
  3. Demario Davis
  4. ASJ
  5. Mike Pennel
  6. Catanzaro
  7. Ealy
  8. Kerley

Our RFA:

  1. Enunwa

Potential Cuts:

  1. Wilkerson (9 million in Cap saved)
  2. Skrine (3.5 Million in Cap saved)
  3. Forte (1 million Saved)
  4. Ben Ijalana (1.25 million saved)

Jets Draft Picks: 1 1st, 2 2nd, 1 3rd, 1 4th, 2 5th, 1 6th, 1 7th

Personally: Cut all of the above mentioned potential cuts, Beachum, & Wesley Johnson (104.5 million), Re-sign all of the above mentioned UFA minus McCown (total spent: 32 Million). Sign Trumaine Johnson, Nate Solder, Jarvis Landry (total spent: 42 Million). Draft: 1: Mayfield 2: Billy Price & Nick Chubb, 3rd: EDGE: Porter Gustin don't know enough to pick 4th-7th.

In the end: Jets are around 30 million under the cap, O-Line revamped, Secondary improved, Dangerous WR corps, w/ a QB and RB duo that could make a Dak/Zeke like impact.

Keep in mind this is ideal, probably not realistic for Jets to sign 3 of probably the top 5 FAs out there, Jets probably won't have Mayfield fall into their lap in Round 1 or have the ability to take all of Chubb, Price and Gustin where I have them. But, share your thoughts, post your own, and feel free to rip apart my terrible offseason plan.:hap:

The entire offseason plan revolves around getting a young franchise QB and that means we have to find a way to land one of Darnold, Rosen, or Mayfield. At this point I don't care if we have to give up 5 first round picks just get it done. If Maccagnan doesn't find a way to get one of these three the offseason is a failure.

And in an amazing plot twist, they still don’t get the young, franchise QB.

Cut Wilk and other cuts, don’t resign McClown, resign Claiborne and the others, spend heavy on OL thru FA notably a C and LT.  Draft a QB not a top FA QB since it would be a fortune - trade picks if you must. Leave all else as is since we wouldn’t be able to do much more than that with the cash and picks we have to really impact the team. This would be a positive step in right direction to lay a nice foundation to the rebuilding process.

That scene at the end of Dunkirk where Tom Hardy is standing on the beach just staring at his burning plane as Nazis are scrambling toward him and he doesn’t even give a sh*t, he’s just staring at his burning plane having a existential crisis. That’s how I feel when I think about this Jets administration.

1. Watch Chris Johnson praise Bowles for taking a potential win-less team and bringing us within 2-3 wins of a wildcard spot, and extending him.

2. Watch Todd Bowles praise the leadership and resiliency of his players this season, and announce that he's bringing back the captain's patches, naming Mo Wilk and Darron Lee as two of them.

3. Watch Macc extend McCown, giving him 2 years with $12 million guaranteed, cut Petty, announce that they will be patient with Josh Allen and that he'll need a red-shirt year, while declaring that the organization feels "really comfortable" with their QB situation.

4. Slit wrists.

That’s highly unlikely we can trade up. You have to remember a lot of teams are going to want to trade up. Lot of the bad team gms picking early don’t care about 2020, 2022 picks. They have to win now to save their arses and those future picks aren’t helping them obviously. The bills have a ton of picks this coming draft, teams will deal with the over the jets obviously. It’s a win now league. Jumping a few spots isn’t too hard, but I have a feeling we are going to be too far back after 2 more wins.

McCown will likely be our qb next 2 yrs.

i'm not so sure solder is an improvement over beachum.  johnson needs to be replaced and so could winters and even carpenter.  jarvis landry? he's got too much odell beckham attitude but he is a playmaker. i'd re-sign all those guys listed except pennel, catanzaro and kerley.  kerley is kind of tough because he's still very good.  but he keeps the younger guys planted on the bench.

4. Avoid responding on here

You lost me at draft Lamar Jackson. He is NOT an NFL type QB. This guy is so uncomfortable in the pocket that he starts to run around for no apparent reason. He is a fantastic athlete, but I don't think he will be a good NFL QB.

  1. Move on from Bowles
  2. Trust in Mac
  3. Promote Morton to HC
  4. Re-sign McCown for one more year; draft a quarterback early this year - perhaps even trade up if necessary.  Get rid of every other QB currently on the roster.
  5. Cut Wilkerson and Skrine
  6. Keep Ealy and ASJ
  7. Spend money on offensive line

I genuinely like our offense this year.  It needs some work along the trenches and we have no future at QB but we score points and finally play a modern offense designed around the forward pass.  I don't think many coaches will want to come here, so I suggest promoting Morton.  He's done a good job as far as I can tell; all of our happy surprises are on offense this year.  The wideouts we have are fun to watch.  Maybe Mac is smart for finding them... maybe Morton is a good coach for developing them... or maybe we just got lucky.  However that happened, it happened; and in todays NFL I want an offensive minded head coach, a future at QB to develop and to throw lots of resources at the offensive line.  I think that should be the recipe for every rebuilding team.

If we can get a better offensive HC to come here; sure.  But I'm trying to stay grounded and forego the "sign this beast short money" route; whether it's a coach, QB or any high priced talent that we foolishly think sees the NYJ as a "great opportunity".  The only people we're an opportunity for are the unknown and the hungry.  That's fine though; let the Giants bring some old bag out of retirement that the game has passed to coach their team.  We'll take our chances with youth and innovation.  What's the worst that could happen?

I get your concern with Landry, I'm not in love with his attitude either, but I don't think he's the same malcontent that Beckham is. I'd replace our absymal Center before trying to upgrade from Winters and Carpenter, I think they'd both benefit from solid Center play. Interested as to why you wouldn't resign Pennel or Catz, both have been pretty good for us, I understand Kerley, I didn't think about him with the addition of Landry.

My ideal plan is draft AND sign QB's. Personally I would rather draft one and go from there but the way this season is going I'm afraid the top 3 will be out of reach. So while I have reservations I go after Counsins and draft a QB as well. It all depends on what happens in FA so I won't go beyond that. If by some miracle they land Counsins I stack the OL in the draft and the RB position. I take a shot on another WR in FA or the draft because Enunwa's injury scares me.

What I think Macchole will do: He will bring back McCown I am almost sure of it. Someone always falls in the draft and this year I'm hoping its Saquon Barkley. I know, I know, but anything  can happen and I'm hoping if they can't get my man Mayfield Barkley would be a nice consolation prize. Other than that its hard to say what Macchole will do.

Agree with almost all of this except #1 and #3.  Keep Bowles another year and see if Morton could do it again.  Macc has had hits and misses but I like how he has addressed the holes in the roster.  He needs to do the same with the QB and edge rusher.

Extensions for everyone. Perfect season. Everything is great.

“I like some of the players he’s brought in” = never gets old

We really are almost there. The only starting positions left that people generally want to see us upgrade, after re-signing ASJ, are at:

  1. QB1
  2. HB1
  3. WR1
  4. LT (ultimately the best thing about Beachum is that he’s an upgrade from the bottom-5 LT play we had the prior 2 years; basically that he isn’t Ijalana or retirement-level Ferguson or on IR)
  5. LG
  6. C
  7. RG
  8. NT
  9. DE/DT to replace Mo after he’s cut
  10. EDGE
  11. ILB (Davis has been fine this year, but expecting a career year to be the new baseline going forward can cause Fitz)
  12. CB1
  13. CB2
  14. NB

We’ve got this, and I think we can easily upgrade the rest of these nonessential positions in 2018. Remember, we have an extra 2nd round pick and have already found solutions to the six all-important, core positions of DE/DT, ILB/OLB who must not engage a blocker, TE (after ASJ is re-signed at $9m/year), almost-average RT, and of course two safety positions.

Oh, and also once McCown is re-signed with a guaranteed $12m for 2018, we’ll have that QB-mentor spot locked up as well.

J!
