Bowles strategic incompetence on display again before halftime

You're down 10-0. 60 seconds left in the 1st half..  3 timeouts left.  Opponent has 4th down and a 50+ yd field goal coming.  Any sane coach would call a timeout here, because a missed field goal gives you a chance to move the ball and get at least a FG.

But not Todd Bowles.  He lets it run down.  And this isn't the first time he's done this either.

Either he's incompetent or just coaching scared. Both are bad looks.  If this team ever gets good, Bowles' strategic incompetence will be the limiting factor.

Jets have not shown that they can move the ball. Why take a chance of a turnover and really put the game out of reach. Regroup at half and hope they show some life vs a nasty defense.

Oh please.  It's Denver.  They're freaking 3-9.  They only needed 25 yards for a field goal attempt.  That is coaching scared to the extreme and is a fire-able offense in my opinion.

Seriuosly?  you believe that?  Because if that's true, then the HC needs to go.  And if that's the level of confidence he has in his chosen QB, then that QB should be gone as well.  If you can't score with a minute on the clock, and you truly believe you are more likely to turn it over, then go coach HS football (and not in Texas).

It wouldn't matter either way. They'd run the ball up the middle on the first play, get stuffed and Bowles would decide to let the clock run out.

Bowles' strategy?  It rarely appears he has any strategy at all.  Rarely looks like he is thinking ahead situationally.

Sometimes it doesn't even look like he is aware that there is a decision to make?!   I swear he is mumbling something to himself about the previous play or two.

Calling a timeout there is a routine, fundamental, common sense thing that ANY coach in the NFL would have done...except on the Jets. As a coach this shows the players you have no confidence them!

Mostly but not after a no show of offense. Count your blessings you will be down 10 or 13 and get in the locker room.

That was the most ridiculous show of coaching stupidity I have ever seen. The fact that we sucked on O in the first half is all the more reason to open it up and take some shots downfield at the end of the half. He is scared of EVERYTHING.

Add to it the total incompetence of the whole team today in being totally embarrassed by a 3-9 team that is apparently, coached to win regardless of record, unlike his group.

Down 20-0 to a 3-9 team. 45 yards of offense into the 3rd Q. What a total joke. I do not understand how anyone can support this CS.

Didn’t work but yeah. With that said, this team sucks on the road and has always been crap at 4 pm. This falls on Bowles because as bad as the offense was, and it was baaaaad, the defense could not get off of the field for the first three quarters of the game.

Denver did to us what we did to KC last week. The only difference is we were just as bad on offense as we were on defense.

I was just talking about this before the game.

There is no reason for him to be the jets coach after black Monday.

I totally concur sir. Bowles is as brainless and he is scared. He lucked into 10 wins his first season and has now shown what he is capable of. Total loser mentality and the team has taken on his personality.

I just am really perplexed with the Bowles/Macc situation.  I think it's obvious the Jets are better than anyone expected then to be this year(maybe even much better?).

Both guys have lots of detractors in the fan base, but one of them is doing a better job than they get credit for.  Which one is it though?

I tend to think Macc is doing better than he generally gets credit for(not saying he's been great) and that Bowles is a pretty bad coach.  Bowles just doesn't do anything to make me think he is even average.

Especially if the Jets are lucky enough to draft one of the four college QB's that could be franchise types. Rosen, Darnold, Allen and Mayfield. Bowles will SIT THEM and play McCown or whatever retread they manage to sign next year.

And you sounded like you were defending the indefensable.......buttercup

It's not indefensible. The offense was being dominated and humiliated and he wanted to end it. He actually succeeded in his strategy.

The runs with 8 minutes to go are indefensable however

That's when I turned the rams game on and swore off Jets football for the 79th time

It is indefensable to not give EVERYTHING you have to "try and win the game" period. I don't care how inept the offense had been to that point, you hit ONE big play and you turn things around. No way Larz, that was a QUIT JOB and he should be fired for it. "You play to WIN THE GAME." Not try to end humiliation. They EARNED THAT.

Quitting on your team and giving extra motivation to your opponent are BOTH fireable offenses and Bowles accomplished BOTH on this day. How do you look your players in the eye and tell them "let's get em" in the second half when you cowardly give away the last minute and 12 seconds of the first half? I think he did more to motivate Denver whose coach probably had little to say except, "They don't want it, so why not take it from them? They already headed for the bus." This is one of the most inexcusable things I have EVER seen a Jets coach do and I have pretty much seen it all. I hate Rex Ryan for his incompetence and his preference of slamming square pegs into round holes, but he NEVER QUIT like this (insert explative here) Bowles.

So,what was with the run out the clock in the first half?? No sense in trying to score eh? Knute Bowles knows better than I.

He sent a message to the team and that message was, "I don't think you can do it. I am afraid you will make a big mistake rather than a big play, so let's go into the locker room and have some hot cocoa. We'll get them next week."
