Repulsive and unacceptable: Something I have never seen before

Todd Bowles literally gave up today and stopped even the APPEARANCE of trying to win a football game.

It was pathetic and embarrassing and far more damaging to the Jets image than the infamous butt fumble could ever be.

The HC of a professional NFL team, quit. Seriously. Quit.

We actually saw a Head Coach completely and totally shrink in the face of adversity. He lost his prized jagoff octogenarian (in NFLyears) QB, and he acted just like a child losing at a board game. It's like he threw this little hissy tantrum and said "I dont want to play this game anymore"

Not only does it make the Jets bad, it made the Jets look bad.

It's one of the NFL unwritten rules. Unless the other team is in victory formation, thou shalt ALWAYS keep up the appearance of trying to win the game. We see it all the time. Even down 2 scores with 22 seconds left, you see teams in the NFL in hurry offense trying to make a miracle happen. Its what fans want to see. And sometimes they happen.

Not Bowles. He just gave up. Before the first half even ended.

If I owned the Jets, this loser would not have made it onto the plane. He would be taking the Greyhound to Port Authority, while I stood in front of the team and APOLOGIZED for having hired a head coach, that would give up on his team like that. And I would crucify him the next day when I explained why he was fired.

Did Petty suck? Absolutely. But he should have thrown as many passes as possible to try and make something happen. Not that we can really expect him to have the confidence to actually do it as the head coach goes out of his way to marginalize and publicly denounce the backup QBs as often as he can.

It's pathetic. And disheartening and I am seriously almost embarrassed to even be a fan of a team that has a HC that just quit on his players and the fans.

We have been a worse team, and had more than our share of complete buffoons at HC, but I honestly think I am the most disenchanted with this team I have ever been.

I never in a million years thought I would see what I saw done today.

After McClown went down the first time, Bowles looked very worried. The 2nd time McClown went down, Bowles personality turned to sheer utter disgust, hopelessness surrounded him. His look was one of fate betraying him. Lost was his ‘chance’ to make the playoffs and with it his job security as well. Something tells me Bowles was told that if he doesn’t get to a decent record, it will be sayonara. Why else would he act so distant, so negative, so uncaring. It was hard to watch him on the sidelines. It’s like he knew the jig is up with McClown gone for the season. It’s as a pathetic a look as when Rich Kotite was 1-16 and telegraphically said I GIVE UP.  Stick a fork in him. He’s done. Next week will be quite telling. It could get really really UGLY.

I really couldn't stomach watching this game.  It was evident the players were not ready to play.  Right from the opening set of downs, they got Denver into a 3rd and long, and Wilkerson (surprise surprise) commits the offsides.  Right then you knew Denver was scoring and this could be a long day.  The Jets actually withstood the initial storm and could have gotten back into it at 10-0, but Bowles and his coaching staff refused to make any adjustments and acted like they were playing an insurmountable opponent.  This was quite possibly the worst performance of the Bowles era.  He should be fired.

Another thing that's clear: The Jets o-line sucks, especially on the road.  This, along with QB, are the top priorities.

Guys the media has declared since the Jets have won a couple more games then they predicted Bowles will not only be back but should also be considered for coach of the year. Disregard his long track record of 3 years displaying horrific in game management and piss poor defensive coaching which he is supposedly known for. The media was incorrect on the talent level of players such as Mccown and Robby Anderson therefore Bowles will be back nothing to see here.

I noticed the same thing. He definitely looked almost sad the 2nd time he went down, knowing he HAD to put Petty in there, who had completed 2 nice passes earlier when Joshiepoo was out the first time. This time he was gonna see to it Bryce didn't show up his lil Joshiepoo. So messed up.

If that's the case, we are better off firing him and promote Morton as the  interim coach for the rest of the way.

John Morton called a terrible game yesterday the offense was pathetic, 3rd and long we ran the draw play and when we needed 9 yards we threw 2 yard passes.

The Broncos had given up 30 or more points in 8 straight losses, prior to yesterdays game.

CLEAN HOUSE its the only way!

The end of the first half didn't bother me, but killing the clock on offense with your backup in did

I think it is pretty much unprecedented

Imagine how petty feels today, his coach is basically saying that he would rather lose than watch you play

2/9 for 14 yards. Yea that's on Bowles...

You can hate Bowles all you want, he's made plenty of bone head moves, but Petty looked bad. I don't think there are many teams capable of having their back up QB mount a comeback when the offense was that bad with the starter, especially when that back up did not game plan throughout the week.

Well this is nothing new at all he did the same thing last year.  And the same thing with petty, they ran the ball all game in one of his last starts.  Bowles gives up all the time.

Also, though it can't be proved I'd bet a large sum that Bowles actuality told Morton to just hand off into the line on every play on that last drive.

i still can't decide whether bowles was more upset that 1) petty could actually look ok, and his insistence that petty sucked all season would doom him, or 2) they really haven't spent any time trying to develop these two other qbs, so he knew they wouldn't be able to do anything once mccown was out.

Let's kill the clock, take this loss & get out of here and regroup for next week. Got to get ready for that playoff push. F*cking pathetic! I seriously DESPISE Bowles, and he sits there with that stupid look on his face & his arms crossed. Omg! I'm not even kidding, he's in Rich Kotite coaching circles when it's all said & done. He can't even hold Rex jock.

it was as if he was afraid of more injuries to qbs so he just wanted to hand it off and get out of colorado.

More like he is afraid of any QB not over 30 and not named Josh.

it just goes to show you how clueless he is about the offense, he would rather leave it all to a veteran qb.  i know this has been said too many times, but he really, really should not be the hc for a new qb.  he's stuck in the 1980s where you could win by scoring 13 ppg and having a dominant defense that grabbed wrs and pulled them down with no penalties.

It was just a bad game on all fronts. Every team has them. My biggest concern is Bowles  really really really has no answer if McCown go’s down. If the back up are  that bad you dump one and get what you can. Second year in a row like this. QB situation is on Macc in my opinion but Bowles surrending the way  he did cannot and should not bode well for his future.

Yesterday was an indictment of both of them. Bowles proved yesterday that he is a quitter. Meanwhile we saw that a journeyman career backup QB is far and away superior to the two QBs that Mac drafted.

It's pathetic.

Petty was horrid. However we do know that he is an excitable guy and it is possible that he just wasn't able to control his emotions when he went in. The ball was just sailing on him. Let's see if a week of practice and preparation changes things.

it's still a 'chicken or egg' argument, but is someone like petty not close to being competent b/c he sucks or b/c the coaching staff is continually giving all the meaningful reps to a veteran journeyman?  in the end, mccags can end all the speculation by not giving bowles the opportunity to play a guy like mccown.

i've gone on record as saying that mccags has known his qbs have sucked and that's why he has hid them by bringing in veterans who he knows bowles will play over his picks.  this way, mccags can have the best of both worlds, he gets to keep drafting his conceptual BAP, takes flawed qbs with limited upside and says they'll be developed, then gives bowles an out with a guy like mccown.  assuming they finish 5-11, something will have to give, since both will try to save their jobs.  bowles will make comments about how the qbs he's been given stink, while mccags will say that he has faith that these guys if given the proper time and coaching would be as good as mccown if not better.  who do the johnsons believe?

What I cant stand is the Bowltite apologists trying to spin this into the QB is so putrid blah blah blah.

BULL $HIT

Yesterday just confirmed what I have been saying since day 1 basically, this guy is afraid OF HIS OWN SHADOW. What could be worse then getting SHUT OUT by a 3-9 team? How's about scheming for the back up QB, going hurry up, running some roll outs, use Petty's skills, limited as they may be in a positive way? Run a trick play? Quick punt? Something. Anything. No, we are the same boring, vanilla, emotionless, moribund POS team that emulates it's hideously in over his lead leader.

The sequence at the end of the first half and beginning of the 3rd sums up the chicken $hit Bowltite regime - scared and playing not to lose, except yesterday he played TO LOSE.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN NFL HC PLAY TO LOSE ON PURPOSE, furthermore, seemingly deliberately trying to get shut out.

If he does not get sent packing, I am going to boycott next season altogether. I cannot waste anymore Sundays being bored out of my mind watching this pathetic display of whatever you call it, it is certainly not football.

what i saw was a head coach who did not know what to do with his backup qb.  he has been adamant all year that he didn't want to play anyone but mccown.  now we see why.  they probably have not tried one iota to develop petty, that's why both he and hack are now speaking as if their career paths will lead them to other teams.

I agree - even Rich Kotite would still give the appearance that his team was trying. As much as I hate it, Bowles will be back next season, though. Simply disgraceful. Chris and Woody Johnson need to get a clue.

It may be time for the Fire Idzyk guys to start a new banner demanding the team to be sold. IMO, the toilet is a worse overall coach than Kotite was. At least Kotite knew the game unlike this turd

The end of the half stuff and the punting down multiple scores was beyond obnoxious.

Don't get that at all. This team is not preserving their playoff berth. It's crappy team playing on the road playing behind; try. Why not show some balls and faith in your offense? Scared, pussified, disgraceful.
