Rookie safety Jamal Adams stopped himself mid-sentence, changing his statement from “some people” to “as a team” when speaking to reporters after the game in addressing the team’s practice habits.

According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, Adams said “It shows when some people … as a team we don’t prepare well at times during practice. We have to lock in at all times and as a team get better.”

The Jets drafted Adams not only due to his versatility on defense, but for his reputation as a leader and a fierce competitor.

Given the fact that the Jets recently benched Darron Lee and Muhammad Wilkerson for skipping or showing up late to practices, it should come as no surprise that a player with Adams’ reputation had some words on the topic that you might not hear from others within the building.

Following Wilkerson’s one-quarter benching for skipping multiple practices and meetings, head coach Todd Bowles said publicly that he still views Wilkerson as one of the leaders on his roster.

I thought his leadership would change all this?

Here we go again. How many seasons in a row must we flush out supposed malcontents?  How can there be this many?

It’s December. Time for the annual Christmas implosion.  I thought we were past this.

How do you take the word "malcontents" out of that article? It said some players don't "prepare well". I take that more as they have a poor work ethic or do not practice the way they should play.

My goodness, sometimes stuff like this can't be made up, with the amount of ignorant statements

Every year under Bowles, motivation, discipline and effort (on the Defensive side) have been issues.  We continually get a less motivated, less disciplined team than the average.

Every year under Bowles, the quality of play, especially at D-Back, vs. talent of the Defense has been an issue.  We get lower quality play than our talent would warrant.

IMO, for a "Defensive Minded" formed D-Back Head Coach, this is simply unacceptable.

We can do better.

Bowles is, and always has been, "interim head coach" quality at best at a leader of men.  He simply doesn't have it to Head Coach an NFL franchise.

Exceeding the laughably off-target hyperbole-ridden preseason predictions of New York's laughable Sports "media" does not make Bowles better than expected, he isn't.  It just exposes how pathetic New York sports "media" is, and ESPN and the others who took it an ran along with it.

for me the worst was vs KC when you have the fastest guy in the nfl and you don't use either of your two high draft pick safeties to give a crappy cb help back there.  multiple times.  it does not matter how many first round picks you use on defense if you do not know how to deploy the talent.

This.

Players punching teammates, infighting, missed meetings, and a lack of discipline (penalties) have been a recurring theme with Bowles since he came here. For all of the good he's done this year with a weak roster, this stuff keeps resurfacing.

The guy is a poor head coach. Plain and simple.

Listen, as I have stated many times, I will not make base my decision on Bowles until the end of the year. This manic up and down of each week with this fanbase is honestly, tiring. A season is a valid, objective sample size to judge from.

Last week, the Jets won, and the defense performed poorly. The common recurring theme of comments seemed to be "Bowles is a defensive minded, he gets no credit for that win".

This week, it was the offense that was abysmal, and a new theme is "Bowles is accountable for everything, how can they manage an offense like that".

Yes, the performance was abysmal yesterday. But, how many bad showings has this team had this year?

As I have said, Bowles has some seeming good qualities, along with problems. They need to be weighed together.

Again, I will defer to year end to make my call and judge things as a whole. The way the team responds off this week will be a large piece of that.

Calling out certain people to the public? That is leadership to me. To do this as a rookie shows who's the leader on defense

I would prefer him to lead by example on the field while playing like an insane madman making game changing plays week after week after week. But I guess this is nice too?

Fat mo is next to go and hopefully Leo and Adams along with Davis will take over the defense from a leadership perspective.
