Warfish
Thanks to Josh McCown. It isn't his fault he isn't what we fans wanted in 2017. It isn't his fault he played to win (as he should) and won "too many" for our fan draft hopes. He gave all the effort that could be expected, played better and with more passion and grit than could have been expected. He deserves one of those movie scene "honorable acknowledging nods in his direction" for his efforts this year. We should all wish him well in his retirement. Brady's a catcher
Not happy he got hurt but happy he won't lead us to anymore meaningless wins. Good guy and a touch competitor but I've hated every win he recorded this year. I'll take 2-14 over 6-10 any day.

There is NO need for a 3rd. 10 Thad Lewis Lewis hasn't taken regular-season snaps since 2013, which pretty much tells you he's not much better than a practice squad player. He's been released twice by the Browns and spent last season on IR with the 49ers, who lost 14 games and haven't offered any of their 2016 quarterbacks contracts for next season. Cary Edmondson 9 Bruce Gradkowski Gradkowski is 34, hasn't taken a regular-season snap since 2014 and hasn't started since 2010. His career completion rate of 52.9 percent is bottom of the barrel. His hometown team, Pittsburgh, placed him on IR in the preseason last year and then released him. That's probably the sign that it's time to retire and groom his son to be QB of the Las Vegas Raiders. USA TODAY Sport Charles LeClaire 8 Dan Orlovsky Orlovsky, 33, didn't play a single regular-season snap last year and hasn't started since 2011. But he believes Mike Glennon is a starting QB, so maybe there's hope for him, too. This spring he's back at his alma mater UConn as an assistant. Sadly, he probably will be best remembered for running out of his own end zone in his first start, resulting in a safety that proved the difference in a 12-10 Lions loss to the Vikings. Tom Dahlin Getty Images 7 Charlie Whitehurst Whitehurst, also 34, is nicknamed "Clipboard Jesus" because of his flowing hair and his career as a backup QB. The Browns saw one game of him last season and have not offered him a new contract. 6 Ryan Nassib Nassib has made a (brief) career out of holding the clipboard while Eli Manning starts every single game for the Giants. That limited role has left him with a pretty cool resume: nine completions in 10 career passes and a 152.1 rating. However, Nassib wasn't very impressive in the preseason last year, is coming off elbow surgery and has been replaced by Geno Smith. Ouch. His brother Carl is a defensive end in Cleveland, and that team always needs QBs. 5 Johnny Manziel A team would have to be completely convinced that Manziel has matured before it brings him in to compete for a job. Teams don't tolerate distractions from backup QBs, and Manziel has yet to prove he can be a professional. However the 2012 Heisman winner is just 24 and possesses the talent that made him a first-round draft pick. He's still trying to get back in the league, most recently working out with Odell Beckhamm Jr. John Rieger John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports 4 Christian Ponder Ponder, a first-round pick by Minnesota in 2011, lasted just two seasons as starter before being derailed by injury and losing his job. He signed with Oakland, Denver and San Francisco the past two seasons without ever playing a regular-season snap. Ponder has started 36 of his 38 career games. Still, the QB-starved Niners did not give him a start last season despite some players declaring him better than Blaine Gabbert. 3 Shaun Hill Hill has beaten out plenty of guys for jobs, including Austin Davis, making 35 starts in his 11-year career. But the Vikings were so unenthused about the prospect of starting him last year when Teddy Bridgewater went down that they traded two first-rounders for Sam Bradford. Hill wasn't happy, the Vikes' season didn't end well, and now he's back on the market at age 37. Hill still should be able to get a job on the strength of his career numbers: 61.8 percent completion rate, 49 TDs passes and 30 INTs. Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports Joe Nicholson 2 Robert Griffin III RG3's attempt to jump start his once-promising career in Cleveland never got off the ground with a 1-15 Browns team. He got hurt in the season opener and didn't return to the lineup until Week 13. By then the Browns were a wreck and RG3 didn't have much chance to change that, though he did lead them to their only win. No longer the running threat he was as a rookie, he still has an arm and perhaps could improve as a pocket passer on a better team. He's just 27 but has yet to show he can stay healthy, leading the Browns to turn the page on yet another QB. AP 1 Colin Kaepernick We're almost three months into free agency and Kaepernick is still unsigned. Some NFL writers and fans attribute this to the controversy surrounding Kaepernick, while FOX Sports' Dieter Kurtenbach is among those who insist he's not been signed simply because he's not that good anymore. Critics point to his 3-16 record the past two seasons and poor completion rate (59.8 percent). Supporters point out he has the second-best career interception rate (1.8%) in NFL history, a TD/INT ratio of 72 to 30 and an 88.9 passer rating. Which do we believe in? While Kaepernick was a lightning rod last year, if his anthem protest is over, it's very possible that he'll be able to better focus on football and enjoy a fresh start with his body and mind stronger than they've been the past two years. Remember, Kaepernick took the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2012 and almost again in 2013. Even last year, as the Niners went 2-14, he had a 398-yard game against New Orleans and threw for 296 and ran for 113 at Miami. Kaepernick, now 29, seems more mature off the field. The question is, how dedicated is he to football? Will he work to fix his flaws and be a locker room leader? Or will his passion for using his platform to promote activism distract from football? If Kap is committed to his career, it could take off again.

ASH1962
I have an idea, we can hand off on first and second downs and just punt on 3rd down. This will make things a lot easier in quitting in these last 3 games because we know Coach Chicken $hit will not open up the offense or allow the QB's to think for themselves, let alone masterminding a supreme game plan to exploit any strengths we may have against opponents weaknesses. My advice to all, go out Christmas shopping the next 2 Sundays and skip the NE game, its NYE. You know I will be doing that. Would love to see Josh come back as QB coach next year. ChuckkieB
I was against him starting from the beginning, but McCown definitely deserves a lot of credit for grinding it out this year and playing way better than anyone expected. The team definitely responded to him and played hard (until this week) all year. Its very easy to root for a player like him who is as tough as nails and works his ass off. Hopefully some of this rubbed off on the team, and that will be his legacy here.

I’ve been very clear in that I would not resign him. IF he IS resigned, that’s on Macc and Bowles. All that can be expected of McCown is to give his best for the team, and IMO he did this year and then some. Its not good enough, but again, that’s on the Organization. Not on McCown. McCown is what he is.
rex-n-effect
Regardless of what you feel about McCown being put in a position to be the starter or his playing ability, he deserves respect as a player for his attitude. As an aging jag he could have easily just phoned it in once he won the starting position and avoided injury. Instead he went out there and played his hardest to win. Unfortunately that can't be said about every other starter on the roster.
