If he blew a knee out in “The Cactus Bowl,” he’d drop to the fifth round and lose $30 million dollars.

Nah we’d sign him for 29 million and he’d sit on the bench behind McClown for 2-3 years like Rodgers did behind Farve.

Outside of the BCS bowls, why should any player who expects to enter NFL risk injury for these stupid meaningless bowls that only about the school making money. If he did get hurt to such an extent as to hurt his draft status is the school going to do anything for him? That would be a big fat NO!

Hard to argue. Those that love his potential will still love his potential. He has nowhere to go but down by playing. If he has a great game, he gains nothing. If he has a terrible game where he looks "exposed" he could drop out of the top 5-10. If he gets injured, it'll drop him more than that and will cost him millions. If he's injured really badly, his losses will enter tens of millions (if he was otherwise going to be even mid-level starter).

As much as anyone wants to jump on the "he's soft"/"he's a pussy" bandwagon, the truth is this is nothing more than a business move, and on that front he's making the right move. He's locked in as a top 2 pick, so the bowl game is all risk no reward.

If he played in the Cactus Bowl his teammates wouldn't think he was a prick. Get it? Cactus humor.

I would go a step further and say that after the 2nd loss of the regular season why risk it.  Shut it down.  Unless you are undefeated (in the power 5) or Alabama, you don't have a chance to win a National Championship.  One step further would be the LaVar Ball option and pull out of UCLA and go play some stiffs in Lithuania for 700 dollars a year.

He needs to Jet up and play the game.

Not that interested, he's going to be a Giant, so we can lament not Tanking properly for the next 15 years. As we go from one retread QB to the next.

In the NFL, holdouts and early retirement seem to be smart moves too, so we can expect a holdout for the second contract and retirement after the third - I would take the under on 10 years in the league if that helps :)

Maybe he hires Revis as his agent

sad thing is, if he wins 1 SB it would be worth it

That's the kind of dedicated leader I know I want.

Although to be fair, with his injury history, maybe it is the right decision.  Can't let himself get hurt till AFTER he signs his NFL Contract.

#WhyNoJets#1Pick?

I hope the 10 teams picking ahead of us feel EXACTLY the same way.

Really, why play any games?

There are 40 Bowl games. Just because you call something a Bowl doesn't make it worth sh*t to anyone other than maybe your college to grab some extra cash. So, yeah, go ahead and put THE biggest source of income you will EVER have on the line for old University of California Los Angeles because they don't make enough from absurd tuition rates, television revenue (which you've already contributed to for three or four years), ticket sales (which you've already contributed to) and other endowments.

Let's just go and put serving in the Cactus Bowl right up there with serving in Vietnam and ol' WW Eye Eye while we're at it.

Why play non-conference games then? All they do is give the Power 5 schools more home games and line their pockets. Why play winnable confercne games? Really, why play any games, again?

Just use the Combine to show your wares.

What this does show, is the mettle of some players. Some top picks do choose to play. And you know, I can even understand, to some small degree, a RB choosing to not to play. Maybe. But then you have Saquon Barkley, who chooses to play.

And people wonder how can a Mo Wilkerson situation happen.

Considering Saquon has looked like a fourth rounder for most of this season, it’s in his best interest to rack up some yards against someone, anyone, one time before the draft comes around. #BlairBarkley
