i could care less if he sucks, there is simply no way he is less inspiring them Petty.

I'm sorry....but if the coaching staff truly believes he's worse than Petty then Hack he has NO, ZERO, right being on an NFL football field.

Frankly, It's clear Petty doesn't either - but at this point stick with the lesser of two evils.

Now - if either of them are on the team next year (taking up roster spots) the GM should be fired on the spot.

And I'm a guy that believes Mac and Bowles should be back!

I wanted to be sure about Petty. Hoped he could be a backup/bridge.  Now I am certain that he is barely a practice squad level QB.

Go ahead Hack guys... you deserve to know too.

That's all I ask.  I don't have expectations for him either.  I'm assuming he stinks based on the fact the CS is deathly afraid to even give him a single snap.  However, I still want to see it for myself.

I understand, sir.

Petty is terrible. Consistently misses by more than 5 yards. No accuracy.

I am pretty sure this means that Hack is atrocious. Hack hadn't even been dressing.

That said, I have definitely seen enough of Petty. I'd be in favor of putting in Hack for 1 game. Unless this is some kind of "don't let the rest of the league know what we (don't) got" kind of thing.

But again, if the team thinks Petty is way better than Hack, and we now know Petty is dogsh*t, we must draft and/or sign someone this offseason.

Why is it that fans think they have the right to know who's good and who isn't?

  • Like the coaching staff or not - but they see him every day - they know what they have...and if they believe the guy is actually worse than Petty he should NEVER play in an NFL football game.

I'm a fan. I'm not allowed to want to see a QB on our roster, especially after the crap we've just seen?!  Hack is a 2nd rounder who has now been here for almost 2 full seasons too.

Protect him from / for what?

To hide him because they know he isn't good either. Petty is disposable so Mac don't care if he looks bad. But Hackenberg is the guy they drafted with the intention of him being the guy.

You're allowed to want whatever you want, it's a free country...but the coaching staff shouldn't play a crappy player just because you want to see him.

I completely agree with this...Hack is, without question, an organization failure.  But, if they believe he's worse than Petty (which would mean he has no right wearing an NFL uniform) he shouldn't play.

Drafting him, not coaching up - whatever the reason - it IS an organization failure...but still doesn't mean he should play.

So you're trusting our CS on this one?  We know Petty sucks so who even cares how bad Hack is at this point?

yes...well, I think they need to trust themselves.  If they can't trust themselves they shouldn't be in the league..  They are professionals and contrary to most on this chat room - every coach on the NY Jets is not entirely incompetent.

They were clearly right about Petty sucking...Point I'm making is the coaches shouldn't play him just because fans want to see him.

I start Petty. He wasn't a turnover machine today the key one was not on him but on Forte. He ran the offense inefficiently but wasn't a disaster in terms of the basics. There weren't too many penalties etc and the team was in the game again thanks to the defense. The reason Qbs need reps is for one reason to practice throws and gain accuracy. I think he can improve in accuracy with more game experience etc. I'm not looking at him as the Jets starter next year but I think he can be no. 2. In other words if the starter is injured he is capable of keeping us in a game. As for Hack he plays in pre-season next year and competes for a spot on the roster.

How can you let Mac draft a QB after he drafted Petty and Hack

Precisely why he will make Cousins the highest over paid QB to ever!!!

Macc himself would probably rather gargle razor blades and rock salt instead of drafting a QB before it doesn’t matter .(< rd5)

first game i missed all season.  i guess petty really stunk it up.  in all fairness, we don't know what the game plan was or how they expected petty to make it play out.  we can only hope they were playing to his strengths and if he failed.......as for hack, there's no point in playing him except to appease the fans at this point.  i get the feeling the jets know what they got and they think petty is the best choice.  but the way petty has played, it's a pretty dismal choice for qb.

Why you want to see a QB isnt for the same reasoning that a CS wants him to play for.  They want him to play when and if he's ready.  You want to see how bad he can be and then will laugh yourself into a coma if he sucks.
