The New York Giants have found their new general manager.

The Giants named Dave Gettleman as their new GM, the team announced Thursday.

Gettleman shares deep roots with the Giants, having spent 15 years in New York as a personnel executive from 1998 to 2012. From there, the accomplished talent evaluator was hired as general manager of the Panthers, serving four seasons in Carolina and helping to guide the team to a Super Bowl in 2015. He replaces Jerry Reese, who was fired alongside coach Ben McAdoo.

Gettleman carved out a 40-23-1 mark with the Panthers and won three straight NFC South titles. His July firing came as a shock to both the NFL community and his players, many who vocally questioned the move on social media.

Gettleman capably steered the Panthers out of salary-cap hell upon his arrival in Carolina and worked wonders with coach Ron Rivera, finding affordable talent and successfully adding star players through the draft.

He'll be tasked with reshuffling a spotty roster plagued by a struggling offensive line and questions about the future of quarterback Eli Manning. Gettleman would have the opportunity to find Manning's successor with a likely top-two draft pick.

Around The NFL will have more on Gettleman rejoining the Giants soon.

Interested in his first interview..see what he thinks of Manning and the future at QB. That has such an affect on us.

Understood...  it  we have a greater affect on us than anyone else. A good GM makes all the difference.

Look at FLacco. No one thinks he is great but he has a Super Bowl and is a playoff contender year in year out.  They give him players he can work with. A solid coach and solid GM. Basically avarge players who play above average.

He is going to say that Eli Manning is the qb. There is no reason, unless he is not very smart, to devalue the current qb on the roster

Exactly, makes no sense to announce to the world that Elis out as starter, time to move on.  Why play your hand with the draft and/or FA and why piss off the fanbase that obviously is on Elis side

Agreed he won’t give his hand up. But it is going to be what he says in between the lines that counts.will he say “Eli will be our guy but that won’t stop us from adding talent for the future if it is there.” something along those lines.

The Giants have a lot of problems, but now they at least have a general manager.

The Giants announced Thursday they are hiring Dave Gettleman, a longtime NFL executive including in the Giants’ front office, to replace Jerry Reese.

Gettleman, who was the Panthers’ GM from 2014-17, beat out interim general manager Kevin Abrams, Giants vice president of player evaluation Marc Ross and former NFL personnel executive and current ESPN analyst Louis Riddick. The four were the only ones to interview.

“Given where we are as a team, we thought it was important to bring in someone with experience as a General Manager and a proven track record,” president John Mara and chairman Steve Tisch said in a statement. “Dave’s experience is unparalleled. He did an outstanding job as general manager in Carolina, and he was vital to our success during his tenure here. Dave is going to bring his own approach to our organization in how we draft and acquire players through free agency.”

Gettleman worked for the Giants as a personnel director from 1999-2012 before leaving for Carolina.

Can't wait for the SOJFs to fall in love with this guy like they fell in love with jerry Reese because they all have giants envy

JoJo is it really Giants envy? Objectively the guy has a solid resume as a GM and is not a shot in the dark hire like Johnson did with McCaggnan.

It will be interesting to see who he hires as HC and BTW dont the Giants have the right approach letting the new GM select the coach?

People are saying he’ll hire some soft option like Mike Smith. Really not a lot of great feedback from Panther fans bud on the contrary there has been some good talk about his resume.

I can still see them taking a QB and letting him sit 2-3 seasons behind Eli.

Perfect situation really while they rebuild the line.

They won’t take a QB that high and sit him for two years. Not a #2 pick.

I can also see this scenario but with someone like Luke Falk or Drew Lock.

I live here in Charlotte and disagree. I think the consensus is Gettleman was solid but had a strong personality and was ousted by ownership.  He'd be perfect in NYC.

Awesome!! Could see Mike McGlinchey go #2 or they could move down and still get him. That’s why it is still pivotal for Denver to win and Jets to lose.

If Giants wanted to come out of this off season with rebuilding the oline, they can definitely find a way to grab at least two good OL high in the draft that should have a immediate impact. But that would still be quite a surprise turning away from taking a QB.

Ownership is making their way out of the building too over a scandle. Yikes..Carolina has a lot of renovating to do.

But do you think it would still be a top QB or a second rounder? Because McGlinchey is actually a franchise LT to me. Very natural at the position. Can play RT also. Very athletic with heavy hands. I  would suggest the Jets take him if we didn’t REALLY need our FQB this year.

Yes but they are still way better run than the JETS and a Trust fund baby in England s brother.

think about that...,  a TRUST fund baby's brother runs our team and we wonder why guys like Parcells and Billicek left in a hurry.

We have no control over that, unfortunately. Maybe he’ll lose interest in the team between all the losing seasons and England activities.

I have no idea if Francesca actually has legit info on what's happening with the Giants but this podcast was a week ago and he called Gettleman and here we are today. And he's saying they'll pass on a QB at the top of the draft and take an OL. That'd be great for us, potentially trade with them and they can still grab one of the top OL. But also leaves another team to swoop in for a QB.

Sure, picking his own HC worked out well for Reese. ?

There is no way the Giants trade their pick to the Jets.  They wouldn’t take the chance that we would get a franchise changing qb in a trade from them.  Too much bad press.

Don’t think Gettleman looks at it in that light. Pretty sure that’s just the fans. If he can get a haul and still grab the top OL that’s great for them. even if that team is the Jets that come calling
