Patriot Killa
https://www.google.com/amp/s/nypost.com/2017/12/31/bowles-only-shakes-more-heads-with-odd-hackenberg-rationale/amp/ FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — On a frigid day at Gillette Stadium, Christian Hackenberg remained on ice. The Patriots pounded the Jets 26-6 in the season finale, sending the Jets to 5-11 for the second straight season and another year without a playoff appearance, but the biggest takeaway from this meaningless game was Hackenberg still could not get on the field. The quarterback taken in the second round of the 2016 draft, with the 51st-overall pick, now has gone two full seasons without taking one snap in a regular-season game. Bryce Petty was terrible again Sunday, but Hackenberg still did not get the call. “We don’t know if he can or can’t [play],” Bowles said. “He works hard every day. He got a lot of reps in the preseason. Bryce got a lot of reps in the preseason. Bryce played better than he did in the preseason. Bryce got to play at the end of the year. He’ll come back next year, he’ll work hard in the spring, and we’ll look at it then.” Hackenberg is the third quarterback drafted in either the first or second round since 1967 not to get into a game in his first two years, according to ESPN. One of those quarterbacks was Jim Kelly, who was in the USFL during his first two years. If ever there were a time to get Hackenberg in a game, it was Sunday. Bowles left the door open to playing Hackenberg during the week, and Hackenberg got increased reps in practice with the first team. The Jets were losing by 18 points at halftime, and Petty was completely ineffective. The offense went 0-for-12 on third down and failed to reach the end zone. Still, Hackenberg sat on the sideline with a parka on to protect himself from the minus-2 wind chill. After the game, Hackenberg insisted he remains excited about his future with the Jets, and he is not upset he is not playing. “I don’t think disappointed is the word,” Hackenberg said. “Again, that question has been thrown at me like four or five times in the last three weeks. I think that’s a really bad way to look at it. I just try to stay as positive as I can and keep working. It’s a process. I don’t get caught up in the here and now. I understand that it’s a 5,000-foot view and you have to continue to look at the big picture and keep working toward the ultimate goal.” In a bit of odd reasoning, Bowles said since Petty beat out Hackenberg in training camp, there was no reason to put Hackenberg in at the end of the season. “If you don’t win a No. 2 job, it’s a foregone conclusion that you aren’t going to play,” Bowles said. “When you lose the No. 2 job and there are two people ahead of you, how is it going to fluctuate when you lost it, honestly?” Petty made his third straight start since Josh McCown was lost with a broken left hand. He completed 19-of-36 passes for 232 yards. The Jets scored just three touchdowns over the last four weeks, three of them with Petty as the starter. FidelioJet
I've been. Bowles supporter - glad he's coming back - but if he really said the below (and meant it) then he really doesn't understand todays NFL football. QB is pretty much the only thing that matters - what Hack and Petty did in July and August should have ZERO to do with who plays in Dec. “If you don’t win a No. 2 job, it’s a foregone conclusion that you aren’t going to play,” Bowles said. “When you lose the No. 2 job and there are two people ahead of you, how is it going to fluctuate when you lost it, honestly?”

The media and fans are under this delusion that Eli Manning is Tom Brady. The giants should have given Webb a look, Eli has sucked for years and was atrocious yesterday again. the Giants had 260 yards rushing, Eli wasn't under a ton of pressure(all the excuses they have given for Eli in the past), the D created 3 TOs which led to 6 of their points yet he was 10 of 28 passing and only led O to 18 pts. The Eli love was insane and that is what was driving that.

Rangers9
In terms of who plays Bowles is trying to be consistent (not stubborn) because that's how he thinks a good org operates. He is thinking down the line in terms of getting respect of the players which means making decisions based on who gives the team the best chance to win. Plus following an order which is based on next man up. He is not going to be swayed by the press or us. Because that's the way a weak coach operates and he wants the players to think he is for real. Understood but how does he explain to his players kicking meaningless FG's when down by 20 points in the last game of the season, punting on 4th down yesterday numerous times even late in the game,12 men on the field penalties yesterday and all season long, horrendous play calling on 3rd and long yesterday and all season long. See the pattern, where were the improvements. I hope I'm wrong but Im having a hard time seeing any success with him as HC.

Who the hell cares about the Giants? We're talking about our team, the Jets. Focus here. There was zero reason for Bowles not to play Hack at all this season. And it's even more ridiculous that he wasn't even gonna play Petty at all. You're officially out of the playoffs with 4 games left. And you don't even wanna SEE your 2nd round 2nd year QB? GTFO. There's no excuse for how he's handled the QB situation. AGAIN.

I don't care if he blows in practice, let him get out there and see if things change, see what you can work on from live action. There's so many positives that can come from it. You can get validation that OK there IS no hope, let's move on. Maybe with Petty, he ends up showing a little something that you can get a 6-7th round pick in return if someone wanted a solid back up. Tell me, what good did playing McCown the rest of the season do for this team when they were eliminated from the playoffs?? Bowles even had a nice excuse to switch to Hack after Petty was horrendous but still decided not to. Don't you as a HC want to evaluate your guys in actual games??? It wasn't even back ups, it was against a Patriot team fighting hard to win.

It just makes me sick listening to Bowles push his BS that "Petty won the #2 job in training camp therefore I can't switch to Hack". With his idiotic logic, unless a starting QB gets hurt, he's the starter the entire year because he won the job in training camp. Petty is a scrub and that's all he's ever shown when he's had an opportunity. As many have said, if Hack is so terrible then why is he taking up a roster spot? A 2nd rounder QB who is 2 years in and took exactly 0 snaps?!!? I've never seen such a thing before. I wouldn't have complained if Hack was terrible. At least we would've seen that he was and could move on from there. Instead we get more Bowles' BS that "we don't know if he can play". This is the head coach that just got a 2 year extension?!?!? QB is only the single most important position on the field BY FAR!
