Report: John Dorsey fixated on Carson 'Wentz reincarnated'

Days ago, one NFC 'personnel guy' revealed that he believes the Cleveland Browns will select Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen with the No. 1 overall selection.

MMQB's Peter King is hearing the same thing, and, for all we know, it could be the same source:

"So in my rounds on the phone over the weekend, I heard this from a veteran college scout, a man who was one of the first to trumpet Carson Wentz as a high first-rounder during his final season at North Dakota State, on the fate of the first pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and on what Cleveland GM John Dorsey might do: “I believe there is no way Cleveland, at number one, will pass on [Wyoming quarterback] Josh Allen. This is Wentz reincarnated. Allen’s a perfect Dorsey quarterback. Just watch.”

Josh Allen, he of the very shaky senior season at Wyoming, the first overall pick four months from now. Hey, I’m just the messenger."

Allen completed 152-of-270 passes for 1,812 yards, 16 touchdowns and six interceptions this season. He has declared for the 2018 NFL Draft.

The Browns are loaded with the No. 1 and No. 4 overall selections as well as three second round picks. Most believe the team must take a quarterback early in the draft after passing on Wentz and Deshaun Watson the past two seasons.

IF this happened and Rosen and Darnold both enter the draft, Indy at #3 will be the belle of the ball and their pick will become much more valuable.  I would expect at least our #6, a 2nd rounder and next year's first rounder to move up and that's only if DEN or BUF don't trump that.

Buffalo’s picks are in the 20’s ..we have a way better shot. Denver scares me. Hope they grab a definite starter in FA

Also, I don't know how the Giants don't go QB at 2. I know they need OL help and Saquon would be a great player for them, but you have to expect that they won't ever be in a better spot to draft their future QB.

I think Eli has a strong say in what their direction will be. If he's there, it could go OL if not then obviously a QB.

He ideally wants to be a Giant till he retires and go out on top, of course. But he wouldn't want to be there just to be replaced in a year by a rookie.

Allen to Browns. Giants take an OT. We trade with the Colts and Mac has to make the decisions of a lifetime. F****

What decision run to the podium with the name Sam Darnold written on it in perfect cursive.

He's got a better chance with Hugh Jackson than our coaching staff, which sucks, but he needs a good coaching staff. He's got a completion percentage in the 50's playing in a garbage division. It's hard to believe it drastically improves in the NFL

Hue Jackson is awful.  I am not a Bowles fan, but I'd be apoplectic if Jackson was the Jets coach.

If the Browns were smart, if they really do love Allen, they would send the 1st pick to the highest bidder and take Allen at 4.

Problem is, if they really do love him - how do they know the Giants or another team willing to trade up doesn't love him too.

You don't mess around with your QB - if you have a guy you "love" you do whatever you can to get him - and don't look back.  It's just too damn important.

Not saying he's good. I'm saying as far as coaching a QB up he's better than our dumpster fire. Our second round draft pick couldn't get a series in yesterdays disaster which makes me wonder why he even has a roster spot if he's still that bad.

So does this mean Dorsey is stupid now?

LOL exactly what I was thinking, isn’t he the ‘genius’ we should be firing Maccagnan for?....the same genius who thought Kevin Hogan was the answer at QB?

I’d take this report with a pinch of salt this far out from the draft but still deliciously hilarious.

‘The alternate view of course is that perhaps there’s a reason the Josh Allen keeps getting mentioned as at least a top 5 pick....maybe he’s not Hack 2.0 after all

And if Josh Allen ends up a good QB, we call Mac an idiot. Round and round we go!

Why would you risk losing the player that you ‘love’?....if you love that player, it’s a fair assumption other teams do too
