JetNation Tuesday Tidbits; Darron Lee Comments on Shutting Down Gronk

Just a few notes, quotes and links to recent articles pertaining to Gang Green as the season comes to a close.

  • While rookie safety Jamal Adams was credited with an outstanding performance against Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski who went without a single catch for the first time in his career, it appears linebacker Darron Lee is looking for some credit as well, saying he was “there all day” in regards to Gronk going without a catch.  According to Calvin Watkins of Newsday, Lee had this to say about the head-to-head match-up after the game;  “Did 87 make the stat sheet today? Zero catches, zero yards; that’s what I was asked to do and that’s all I do.”

  • Used sparingly throughout the season, tight end Neal Sterling finally got some looks in the passing game against the Patriots and the converted wide receiver impressed.  His production has left some fans wondering why he didn’t get a look earlier in the season.
  • Now that we know the Jets will have the sixth pick in the draft, let the mocks and speculation begin.  Mike Maccagnan has to find a way to get a quarterback this off-season, and the draft is one of many options.
  • Todd Bowles said he thought quarterback Josh McCown had a great year, and he’d like to have him back next season when asked about the QB during his end of season press conference.
  • It was a relief to see the Jets finally allow rookie receiver ArDarius Stewart to do something other than catch a screen pass on Sunday when he hauled in a 46-yard pass from Bryce Petty up the seam.  Stewart’s lack of opportunities came as quite a surprise as the season wore on, and when used, it was primarily as a runner on an end-around or the occasional screen pass.
  • The NFL season carries on but the Jets are done for now.  We take a look at how the first year of Mike Maccagnan’s rebuild went, and what should happen moving forward.  Take a look right here.

Happy new year, Jets fans.

Gronk goes off - Pats win!

Gronk get shut out - Pats win!

Get the win and then talk.

If they ask him specifically about the performance of Rob Gronkowski, then he has a right to respond that way. Because it was factually true.

Same thing with Jamal Adams. The question was specific to the performance

Now if they were asking him about the game as a whole and he responded that way, then I would be annoyed

If the team can use Gronk's lack of stats for confidence then great but I'm not sure the Patriots wanted to open him up to big shots before the playoffs. Much like the first matchup I don't think the stats are indicative of the overall performance.

So basically the Jets actually do something okay, its the other teams fault. Typical Jets fan. I would think that they would have at least targeted him once on a short pass

He had his lowest snap count of the season, except for week 2 when he got injured during the game.  In addition, he had zero targets.

It's clear to any sane individual that the Patriots had no desire to expose him and, even more likely, pay him the bonus he would have been entitled to if he went off.

But, yeah...both of these guys should keep talking trash.....

Tell TomShane that he had him catching 5 TDs. Maybe Jets fans should have been smarter about that before opening their mouths

My guess is that he already answered about the game and didn’t want to belabor the point. Because usually the General mood of the game is first, unless the reporter is an idiot.

Also the tone Is important. Did Lee say it in a happy fashion or a morose fashion

I was about to say, he was on the sideline a lot and I don’t recall a ball going his way and the D still got routed.

But this team is all about victory laps for effort so yay!

ONce again, expectations set the narrative.

Beningo saying 45-0 Pats. If it’s not meant to be serious then don’t say it.

TomShane saying that Gronk should score 5TDs

Both are outlandish but they set the narrative. And you have Tony Romo who has been great all year praising Bowles up and down during the game. You have the post game guys saying Hackenberg shouldn’t have played at all.

There is such a wide schism, it’s unbelievable

Benigno and Tom Shane actually watch the jets game in and game out.  Tony Romo has probably seen a game if that of the jets and has zero clue about bowels as a coach.

I have a serious problem with both him and Adams gloating about shutting down one player - while the entire defense got lit up all day.

I mean, it is a team game, isn't it?

That is the Bowles moral victory philosophy they have been taught. “ hanging in games “ winning 5 instead of 3 games is huge in the “school of Bowles. ”

Preach x 1000000!!! I'm telling you I don't like the type of culture that is growing the Jets locker room.  Adams and Lee bragging about individual accomplishments after getting blown out is not the type of "leadership" I want.  Not to mention that these 2 douches had to double team Gronk for almost the entire game to stop him which opened up things for everyone else.

If they’re asked about individual accomplishments, they have a right to brag about individual accomplishments
