QBs?

  1. 1. I'd be very happy if the Jets selected the following QBs with the #6 pick (select all that apply)

    • Josh Allen, Wyoming
      41
    • Sam Darnold, USC
      111
    • Lamar Jackson, Louisville (Not officially declared for draft)
      31
    • Drew Lock, Missouri (Not officially declared for draft)
      1
    • Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma
      90
    • Josh Rosen, UCLA
      101
    • Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State
      14
    • None of the Above

If baker mayfield is available. I forget who picks behind us. But if there are no qb needing teams from 7 through whatever, trade back a spot and do it until you approach a qb needing team, take baker and new assets acquired by trading back and build or trade for proven players. May seem like a madden tactic but it could work

You can do this for something small, to move 3 or so spots, but other then that its too risky.

Baker can easily tear up the senior bowl  like he has torn up every other football related activity since he was 16 and solidly himself in the top 10, making a trade back impossible.

This class has been hyped for over a year now, but honestly none of these guys really blow my skirt up. Neither Darnold nor Rosen has started enough games to make me feel confident, and Rosen has durability concerns to boot. Jackson's numbers took a leap this year, but his previous two are hair-raising. Mayfield fits the profile, but he's a headcase. Rudolph seems like the cleanest prospect to me, but I won't pretend to know anything about him beyond size and stats. Is he even a legit first-round guy?

The only thing anyone can say with any certainty is that Josh Allen is a disaster waiting to happen.

The only QB I'd be happy with at any pick in this draft is Mayfield.

I simply do not believe Darnold or Rosen will be good NFL QB's.  They reek of old school NFL scouting failure to me, they have "measurables" and "intangibles" supposedly, but I don't buy it for these two.

With that said, at best, I give Mayfield a 50/50 chance to be a competent NFL Starter.  I think he will be good, but it's just as likely he fails horribly.

There is no sure thing in this draft, not at #1, not at #6, not in the lower rated guys like Falk or Rudolph, etc.

Honestly, If I were GM I might not draft a QB, I really might just say **** it and make a deal to get an Alex Smith for now.  Then maybe draft a QB in a later round (from amongst the 2nd tier guys).

But I would likely draft Mayfield.  And pray.

As a fan, picking Mayfield and playing Mayfield is about the only thing that would energize me for 2018.  I'd likely buy a Mayfield Jersey (yes, hype, yes, silly) and be on the edge of my seat watching every down with real, material interest.  While I've watched every game (as always) in recent years, I can't say it's always been attentively or with much passion or interest.  The team has been dreadfully boring, competitive in a pathetic "close but know we'll lose" way, and utterly uninteresting at QB and offense.  Baker Mayfield, succeed or fail, would at least spark my interest (and wallet).

This crop of QBs leaves me scratching my head and for the 1st time in a long time we shouldnt mind if the NYJ passed on a first round QB.

FWIW Rosen looks like a piece of blown glass ready to shatter if put in the northeast climate. Let the Giants have to sweep up his pieces

Rosen probably has over 30 starts, how many are you looking for

Just because the Jets have needed a quarterback for 40+ years doesn’t mean that every college quarterback is worth the 6th pick. Half these guys will be available in the second round.

Wrong.  This is the mentality that puts us back where we started.

The browns and giants are guaranteed a qb if they want one but unlike in other years, the qbs taken later in the first round could wind up being better.  Who is to say that mayfield won't outperform Allen or Rosen?  Scheme and fit will matter a lot with these players.  And if Morton leaves, it will be interesting to see who the jets replace him with since the top qbs all look like fits in different types of offenses.

Problem with that approach is that Buffalo is sitting with two 1s.  Both will be in the 20s, but if we start dropping back, we risk Buffalo packaging their 1s and jumping us and taking our guy.  If we like Mayfield (or any other QB who is on the board at 6), I don't think we can afford to get cute.  Take him when we can.

I don't understand the Mayfield sensation. Small, bad attitude, likes to party. Manziel 2.0 to me

agreed !.. i doubt Mac picks a 6 ft qb who has " character issues " .

Darnold, short resume, poor accuracy, far too many interceptions, USC makes bad pro-level QB's look legit, but they're rarely any good.

Rosen, would get hurt on his way to the podium to accept being the first pick.

Allen, Hackenberg 2.0:  The Hackening!

Jackson, the best Pro H-Back to ever be drafted as a QB.

Rudolph, wishes he was as good as Mayfield.

Etc.

Etc.

Etc.

This draft class, supposedly the Best since the 80's, is nothing but normal, a bunch of kids, all with serious issues, drawbacks and concerns.

If you claim any of these guys are a sure thing, or even a likely thing, you're kidding yourself.  we all may like this one or that one, but they're ALL massively risky.  Yes, even Suck-for-Sam-who-sucked-as-Sam.
