Watch out: Jets could trade for A.Smith and

...there is a decent chance they will trade down from 6 overall as well.

They’ll likely upgrade OL in FA, specifically at C as many have called for. Upgrade at CB would be doable too. We’d need someone to play DE for us, I’d sign a cheap guy and look for potential in the 4th or 5th round.

In the draft, they could end up with something like (eg if they trade with cardinals): 15, 37, 47, 49, 85

could equal:

15. Christian Kirk (wr)

37. Rashaan Evans (edge)

47. Guice (rb)

49. Isaiah Wynn (g)

70. Traded for A. Smith

85. Luke Falk (qb-may need trade up 10-15 spots)

I’d be happy. We’d have starting caliber players at every level, sufficient for at least a decent playoff run. If Falk is not developing behind the scenes, we draft another in 2019, and forever.

Please proceed with my beheading.

IMO I think The Browns will trade for Smith, they have 5 picks in the first 2 rounds and would allow Darnold or Allen to sit for a year. Dorsey their GM traded for Smith back when he was the GM in Kansas City so don't be surprised if they are the highest bidder there.

I like Guice, I don't think WR is a 1st round need, I like Luke Falk but I think we need to address QB earlier because I think Smith ultimately goes to the Browns. Overall I'd probably be upset with this offseason but that's just because I think there are a lot of possibilities besides this one, not a bad job though considering you have us landing Smith.

I think Browns could make sense too for the same reasons you do. That said, Dorsey’s ex-team clearly thinks there is a deficiency in Smith’s game. Whether Dorsey is of that opinion remains to be seen.

Also, not that Smith has a say, but Chief’s GM might give him some bit of input regarding where he’d rather go. I don’t know. I would think Smith should have a lot of respect in the building even if he isn’t seen as their future guy.

Jets are somewhat more stable to the outside observer than the Browns. I think. Smith might rather us in this scenario. Again I don’t know.

The Smith trade something I could see happening but not necessarily what I want. The more I consider it the more it makes sense. This is why:

I think it is important to Mac to not be seen as QB starved heading into the draft. If they had Smith I think they still could draft Rosen or Darnold or, (god forbid) Allen, if one fell to 6. (Mayfield does not seem like Mac’s “type.” :/ ).

Having Smith makes Jets mysterious during draft. Could still pick a QB, could take Edge, could could take Fitzpatrick, trade down, or even trade up if the opportunity is there.

I think WR might be a first round need. This is why: the team has always lacked playmakers. The team is never fast. Never explosive. Never has an “it factor” player. Robbie Anderson might be a guy like that, and that is very exciting. Robbie will be our main threat next year and teams will make him their priority. He may not continue to play on this year’s level with so much attention being placed on him. Also, he is a twig who will suffer injuries down the line. Kearse is a very good veteran possession receiver. He’s one of few players that knows a winning culture. I really like him as a clutch catch guy and I am hoping we extend him. That’s all the Jets have right now. Enunwa may come back, but he may never play again or be the same. I am relying upon him 0%. We have two guys who as rookies showed very little. That means we have Robbie and Kearse (who has 1 year on his deal). We take for granted that Kearse and Robbie were healthy almost all year but that’s rare. I really think you need 4 good WR every year. One will almost certainly miss a lot of time. And we see now that the slot wr is so important.

My 2 cents.

Who is giving more then a 5th round pick for the right to pay Alex Smith 17 million?  Seriously do people watch him?  Especially here go watch the Chiefs vs Giants game when it was windy like most December games are in MetLife or anywhere in the NE.

Do you think it was exceptional wind on that day? Because that kind of wins will be disruptive every time

Big armed bortles and Taylor couldn’t complete a pass in Jax last week. And the problem wasn’t only that they are inaccurate.

Being able to throw the ball far, and having a big arm that can pierce the wind, or a special arm that isn’t even big that you have the intelligence to use like Tom Brady are 2 different things, don’t put either Bortles, or Taylor, or for that matter Alex Smith in that category, but lucky for the Chiefs their starting QB of the future does, and they won’t have to be sitting home in a game they had no business losing no matter what as long as the starting QB isn’t knocked out of the game ever again.

I disagree. Taylor and Bortles have huge arms. They can certainly throw the ball hard enough to get through the air. Yet they couldn’t for much of the Jags game. There is a point (granted I don’t know what mph) at which no qb can defeat wind.

Thinking Smith lost the game for the Chiefs is misguided.

Dude do you even watch the games?  Bortles throws were so weak that the wind caught them, and turned them sideways, yes ask him to step back, and throw it as far as he can no target he has a big arm, same for Taylor, but ask them to throw accurately in the wind their arms are garbage, now do you think Brady, or Ben would have as big of issues in that weather?  Hope you don’t think so because both have multiple games in equal to worse conditions vs great defenses where they had zero problem putting up 30 spots.

I watched. I was curious about the wind. So i asked, probably in the wildcard thread, if the wind was really crazy. I root for Jags as a secondary team since I moved to Fla recently. I was informed by @JiF that it really was crazy wind. There’s nothing you can do about that.

I’m not disagreeing about the winds being crazy, and yes the winds in MetLife are not as drastic as they were at the old Giants stadium where what you saw in Jax this past weekend was quite normal starting in late November, but they still are much worse on average then most places so no thanks to any QB like Alex Smith who can’t compete in those games.

Yeah man, it was really.  Marine craft/small aircraft warnings.  Victory at sea conditions. Seriously bad wind.  Jax gets the river effect too.  Especially when it comes from the North like it was Sunday.  That wind flies down the St. Johns with no protection till it basically hits the stadium.

I'm not saying that's why they couldn't throw the ball. I'm sure there was plenty of user error too but the wind was crazy bad. That I can confirm.

Notice the guy in the background. He’s laughing at your draft.  Where’s the LT the RT? The C? The CB’s? Another WR? Sounds like what Mac would do.

If the Jets trade for Alex Smith.....I'm officially done with this team.

Until game 2 of 2018 at the very least. I’m done until game 16 if they bring back McClown and don’t draft a top QB prospect in round 1.

Original way to lose a head. Nice.

But you skipped over the part where we signed the C and CB via FA.

I drafted a Guard. The later rounds would be a good place to try for future tackles.

If you think this team is set at WR, you are incorrect. You can read why at one of my earlier posts if you are interested.

Just feel we have greater needs than another WR right now - it’s in my other posts.

I don't see us being in a great position to trade back.  Most teams look to trade up to top 10 for a QB -- which means the sweet spot for a trade back is if you hold a pick just ahead of a QB needy team.  In my view, the most likely spots for trade back are 3 or 4 (just ahead of us and Denver).  The teams picking behind us do not need QB: Tampa (Winston), Chicago (Trubisky), SF (Garroppolo) and Oakland (Carr).  Miami at 11 might be ready to move on from Tannehill.  Can't see anyone giving up picks to move up to 6 when they likely can get the same guy at 9 or 10.

Best sceanrio for a trade back is probably if Bradley Chubb falls and someone wants to get ahead of Tampa who could desperately use a pass rusher.  But given Macc's history, if Chubb falls, I think we are more likely to take him than trade out of the slot.
