Arians to the Jets might not be a fantasy and why Morton is on thin ice....

Bruce Arians, a Paterson native, decided to call it quits as an NFLcoach after the 2017 season. But Arians, 65, isn't ready to completely walk away from the game.

Arians, who finished his career with five mostly successful seasons as the Cardinals' head coach, had this to say during a recent interview with The MMQB

"I will be in a training camp this summer. It might be the Jets. It depends on who the Cardinals hire. I will be at training camp. I will miss the players, I will miss the coaches. The game, I think the game and me, we owe each other nothing. We're even."

The Jets, of course, are coached by Todd Bowles, who considers Arians a longtime mentor. So it'll be interesting to see if Arians pops up in Florham Park in late July, to help Bowles out as a coaching consultant for a few weeks.

He's pretty innovative and loved how he utilized David Johnson. Bowles likes seeing RBs and I have no doubt we're taking a RB with one of our 2nd rounders, or in the 3rd, if we trade one for Cousins. But, if the Jets land Cousins & crazy as it sounds sign Leveon Bell, Ariens would be awesome as a mentor to Morton & Bates, in incorporating some great ways to get the ball to the RB.

The more I think about a Cousins + Bell marriage, the more excited I get. How cool would it be to get a franchise QB, and a franchise RB in one offseason? (Plus a QB & RB that played together in college, and that same RB grew up a Jet fan). If we're spending 105 million & front loading contracts in 2018 why wouldn't we sign game changers? How excited would the other skill players on this offense be coming into camp knowing Kirk Cousins & Leveon Bell will be there with an upgraded Oline (Jensen at Center?, Nelson?). Kearse, Anderson, Enunwa, Hanson, Stewart would be coming into camp KNOWING that this QB has thrown for over 4000 yards per year since he's been a starter in the league. Plus, a RB that literally is the #1 guy defenses need to stop to have a chance to win, which means every other offensive skill player that lines up faces a secondary & linebacking unit weakened by having to make sure Leveon Bell doesn't go off!

Until Jets get a quarterback won't matter who the OC is

I think getting Arians with Cousins would be a steal and might be the additional feather in the Jets cap to entice Cousins to sign here.

Still no reason to get rid of Morton, last year was his first coordinator opportunity, let him learn and grow too - we all know Todd is getting his chances, Mac too...

I think it's a bad look to get rid of Morton for one of Todd's friends/mentors after just one year, they need to grow up and find a way to make it work. Teamwork, time to walk the talk, make it happen, chance to make something special with Arians as a consultant

It not like there is not plenty of work to do with hack, petty?, a QB in the draft? and/or FA QB?  it's offensive

Actually it really did.  But hey...

Went from dead last in red zone efficiency to #1 in the league when we hired him.

But a big portion of this fanbase relishes being miserable, just because...

I think Arians is done with the constant grind of coaching after 40 years, but a consultant role with a coach he’s been close to since the early 80’s might be right up his alley.

Exactly, I was holding back for his next whiney post.  Guess to him that really wasn't working out. ?

I agree, think Arians wants to coach but health won't let him.  Needs something to keep him interested without the stress of a HC gig

Where did anyone say we were getting rid of anyone?  Arians isn't going to love stress free by becoming the OC here.

**** that. Pack up your shrimp ? Bowles. There’s a new sheriff here in town. Arians can keep Bowles around to disperse the Gatorade.

it was mentioned in the OP - Good grief :)  thought it was a reference to womanish storm brewing articles, adding Arians to current staff is a great idea and it's NY/NJ so there will always be some stress...

The OP, not anywhere else, was going off the article.

I agree though, would love to see Arians added in any way to the staff.

The reality is that if Arians comes here as a ‘consultant’, he’d be best served as being a (fancy title ‘Asst HC’) to Bowles and TEACH him how it’s done.  Bowles is a horrible HC whose totally over his head. Minimize Arain’s responsibilities, have him focus on making Bowles a better head coach, and helping as a QB coach to the rookie they draft. Bowles had success under Arains as a DC but make no mistake, he is top 5 worst HC in the NFL. Arians is a passionate, doesnt take any bullsh*t type guy. He is worlds apart in his demeanor  from Bowles’ soft spoken style. That crap may work as a DC but it doesn’t fly as a HC.

I forgot that the promised land for most Jets fans is getting to 8 wins, which is what they did in 2011, so it makes sense why you're thrilled with the performance of Tom Moore and Co.

In 2011, the Jets had the 5th ranked defense in the league. Their offense was 25th. The offense had 29 turnovers, 4th worst in the league.

Sanchez completed 56% of his passes that year, good for 28th in the league. Per PFF, he was 31st in Adjusted Accuracy % out of 36 QB's who qualified. He turned the ball over. He didn't move the team up and down the field. And he lost, a lot, despite having a top 5 defense.

Here, enjoy some additional reading here: https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/mark-sanchez-the-real-problem

Mark Sanchez was a top 5 QB in 2011 by one measure, however, and that's in the number of interceptions he threw (18), which was good for 5th worst in the league. So yeah, everyone was great in 2011, Tom Moore included.

Who "relishes being miserable" you moron? No, its great fun to watch garbage week after week and year after year. I suppose you enjoy 5-11 seasons? God, idiots like you that accept losing and a mediocre product on the field every season drive me nuts. Guys like you are the true SOJF's.

For the Record and in large bold so you can read and understand:

I would like nothing more than to come here and write positive posts about our team, the playoffs, maybe hosting a playoff game, and god forbid winning a SB. WTF do any of us have to be positive about? I mean wtf has this team / organization done and given to us fans to make us believe we are headed to contention?

That's what you take from someone saying Moore worked well here?  Bottom line, they went from being awful in the red zone to one of the best.  And that's what he was brought in for.  Working with a shltty QB.

Don't know what the rest of the nonsense about stats, the promised land bull shlt means.  He did his job.

He was also brought in to help with third down efficiency, and we dropped from 11th in 2010 w/out Moore to 22nd in 2011 with Moore.

Tell me something I don’t know, slappy.

If you were expecting the Jets to make some sort of playoff run in 2017 after blowing up the team and many “experts” picking them to go 0-16...then I don’t know what to tell you.

If you want to constantly bitch and moan and groan during an offseason where we have upwards of $100 million to spend and 3 draft picks in the Top 50 alone, then go right ahead.

Me? I’d prefer to be optimistic at this time of year.

I don’t even know why some of you guys continue following the team if they just make you constantly miserable. I tend to ignore and stay clear of sh*t that depresses me.
