MDL_JET
Jets know they have McCown in their back pocket. It's go after Cousins. If that fails, resign McCown and go after their QB in the draft. There's no other free agent to go after.

Why would the Vikings go for Cousins if Keenum has already proven he can win infinitely more than Cousins’ zero playoff wins? That pass to beat the Saints showed the kind of will and skill to win the games that matter Cousins has never displayed. The Vikings need a winner and probably found one with Keenum. Patriot Killa
https://www.google.com/amp/s/articles.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2018/02/kirk_cousins_says_working_with_jets_jeremy_bates_w.amp Earlier Friday, while speaking to SiriusXM NFL Radio, Cousins said something else that maybe bodes well for the Jets. While saying he wants to ultimately play for a winning team, he acknowledged that teams can go from winners to losers rather quickly in today's NFL (if they get the right players). The Jets went 5-11 in each of the past two seasons. "In this league, the winning thing comes and goes," he said. "A lot can change year to year. So when you say, 'Well, where are you going to win?' I believe there are a lot of places you can do that, because it does change so much year to year." Take this all with a grain of salt, folks. This is just a savvy player saying all the "right" things -- and saying nothing that might compromise his value in free agency.
David Harris
We clearly have to outspend everything be in order to land Cousins....SO DO IT!!!!! weve paid revis and Mo $18 million each to suck ass for us. Pay market value to cousins plus an extra 18-20 mill in year one to get the deal done. There is NO excuse not to.
Bleedin Green
Cousins is not a stupid guy, and he totally gambled on himself big time to get to the point he's at now. He will speak highly of any and every team he's asked about, just as he should. It's a smart business move. I have little doubt he will gladly listen to the Jets offers, but from everything we've seen from him, the odds are he's nowhere close to having a real thought on where he's going to end up. Yeah okay but how do you get to his signing is a lock from that blurb? That's what the original poster said. Furthermore you know most of what is written this early in the off-season is bullsh*t. No one doubts Cousins isn't a good player. What they doubt is the perception that signing Cousins will magically turn this team into a playoff contender. Kirk Cousins free agency: Why Jets should be wary of paying him big bucks Posted February 01, 2018 at 07:00 AM | Updated February 01, 2018 at 09:10 AM 66 shares Comment By Darryl Slater | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com Now that Washington has traded for Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, Kirk Cousins' time in Washington is finished, and he will become a free agent. The Jets are among the teams expected to be in the mix for Cousins. But the Jets need to think long and hard (and they will) before throwing a ton of money at Cousins. Let's explain a few reasons why. AP Photo | Manuel Balce Ceneta, File There are a lot of things to like about Cousins, who was Washington's starter for the past three seasons, didn't miss a game over that stretch, and put up these numbers from 2015-17 — 81 touchdowns, 36 interceptions, 97.5 quarterback rating. He is by no means an awful quarterback. But the Jets need to be wary here before they dump a lot of cash into Cousins' bank account. This isn't a black-and-white situation, folks. There are potential positives and negatives to signing Cousins. And here are a few possible drawbacks ... THE PRICE TAG Cousins is going to command an enormous sum on the free agent market. One league source estimated Cousins will get a five-year deal with a maximum value of $140 million to $150 million — $28 million to $30 million per year. As for the guaranteed pay (which is all that really matters in an NFL contract), Cousins could be looking at $80 million to $90 million, with $65 million fully guaranteed at signing, the source said. The Jets currently have $72.4 million in salary cap space (based on an estimated $178 million cap), and could get to $92.4 million by cutting defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson, running back Matt Forte, and cornerback Buster Skrine. So the Jets have the space to sign Cousins. It doesn't mean that is the most prudent decision for them, though. NO, REALLY, THE PRICE TAG Two recent quarterback contracts could be a baseline for the Cousins deal, the source said — Matthew Stafford's deal with the Lions and Derek Carr's deal with the Raiders. Stafford's contract details: five years, $135 million ($27 million per year), $92 million guaranteed, $60.5 million fully guaranteed at signing. Carr's details: five years, $125 million ($25 million per year), $70.2 million guaranteed, $40 million fully guaranteed at signing. While Cousins turns 30 in August, Stafford turns 30 next week, and Carr turns 27 in March. Remember, if the NFL's salary cap indeed rises from $167 million to $178 million in 2018, that will impact how much money free agents get this offseason, compared to what guys at their position previously got. Standard inflation stuff. JETS HAVE OTHER NEEDS Look, the Jets are not one player away from being a consistent winner. They have a lot of holes. And spending all this money on Cousins — even though, yes, the NFL is a quarterback-driven league — would unquestionably hamstring the Jets' ability to address other positions in free agency ... for years to come. Of course, having Cousins on the roster could be a carrot to attract free agents to the Jets, as well.
