The 49ers and QB Jimmy Garoppolo have agreed to a five-year, $137.5 million contract, source says. The biggest deal in NFL history on a average-per-year basis.

Oh MAN.

I imagine Cousins and his agent are drooling right now. Questions for you guys . . . Does this change your mind on pursing him at all?

So what. If the money gets wins and the playoffs whats the problem here.

The problem is what also equates to wins is an O-line, pass rushers and cornerbacks. We have gaps. I’m all for Cousins, but it needs to be around that already dicey amount of 26-28 per year. Not a one up over Jimmy G’s number.

Best thing to happen to the NY Jets. While the Vikings have a good cap situation, they still have guys that are FAs & Kyle Rudolph and Stefon Diggs are both FAs after this season.

I truly believe that this new deal takes the Broncos out of the competition for Cousins. Gutting your team/especially on defense to sign a QB is nuts. Plus both Thomas & Sanders are over 30.

Browns can sign Cousins but do they really want to? I mean if I'm a Browns fan & I have #1 & #4, I want a young QB since I have my pick. Hue Jackson wont even be there for the resurrection of the franchise anyway.

March is gonna be really interesting.

Crazy money but you all need to get over this sh*t.  That's the NFL these days.  You have to pay, to play.

Exactly. Why it's ever an argument if Cousins is worth "Tom Brady money" is just pointless. That's not how it works. 49ers got a glimmer of hope and now he's the the biggest deal in nfl history on a per year basis.

Cousins' leverage also went through the roof. He has stats for 3 years that he will be able to say, "look a guy that just won 5 games can't be worth more than me".

QB money is stupid right now. It is the way of the league so if you have a guy that you think is "The Guy" money can't be an issue because some other team will pay them.

Since we don’t have anyone major to re-sign in the next 2 years, (maybe Leo? But, he needs to do more for a max contract and even if, he’s just 1 person that would need a big contract in the next years) I’m all for front loading the $ and a lot of guarenteed $  for Cousins for the first two years and then his cap drops significantly after that.

He has proved more than Brock Osweiler before his big contract, but I agree, 74 million guaranteed sure is a lot for a few good sample sizes.

Maybe but not really. Brock and Jimmy have similar stats before they got ridiculous money. Jimmy G is just everyone's darling right now. It may be worth it, but once teams have tape on him I expect him to be about slightly above average QB.

Jimmy G is also younger than Cousins which could be a solid point in contract negotiations but I 110% agree .. Cousins has three seasons of great stats compared to Garappolo’s stats. I’m almost ready to say let’s just trade up for our guy and pay that money in 5 years. Does the QB market value settle down by then or rise even more? Idk. But damn, I am not ready to commit that much more money as of right now when we have these gaps. Maybe we won’t have as many gaps in 5 years if we go the rookie route..

it sounds like you can either sign cousins and draft an offensive line or sign an offensive line and draft a qb.

No

Lesser QB’s like Winston and Mariota are going to get even more than Cousins 2 years from now.

Good quality QB’s cost a sh*tload of money. People should accept this by now.

If you draft someone like Mayfield or Allen and he’s just merely “good” 4 years from now, you’ll have to give him a $150+ million deal.

I agree. Id rather have Rosen or Darnold than pay Cousins too much money. Although we actually have the money and could structure the contract in a way to front load it so that over time he gets average QB money

It is crazy though.
