REGINA – Defensive back Kacy Rodgers II was released by the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday to pursue an NFL opportunity.

The 25-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Roughriders and played in 25 regular-season games.

Rodgers had 74 defensive tackles, one quarterback sack and one interception which he returned 50 yards for a touchdown. He added 12 defensive tackles in two playoff games in 2017.

Is this just a case of having connections? Does he actually deserve a roster spot? If he gets cut will it rub the father the wrong way? Will this create a bad atmosphere as it did with Doc Rivers/Austin Rivers for the Los Angeles Clippers?

Hmm.. don’t like blood related players and coaches on the same team.

New England held three free agency workouts yesterday.

DB Kacy Rodgers II

In 2014, after a four-year college career at Miami, Kacy Rodgers II was signed as an undrafted rookie by the Kansas City Chiefs. The 6'2, 210 lbs linebacker failed to make an impact in Kansas City, however, and in June 2015 joined the CFL as a member of the Edmonton Eskimos. A year later, the linebacker-safety hybrid moved to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, for whom he played 25 games over two seasons, notching 74 tackles, a sack and one interception returned for a touchdown.

well, apparently february is early enough to make ass backwards decisions.. at least for the jets..

bringing in a kid that got cut from a CFL team, to play for his dad, who happens to be less than a JAG DC??

this fail has layers..

While I have absolutely no support for the Jets' highly questionable DC coaching his son, it is worth noting that it is pretty common for CFL to cut players who are having any interest shown from NFL teams.  That part doesn't necessarily say anything bad about the kid.

Well the cut bit is misleading.  The CFL will at times release players so they can try out for the NFL, it does not meant they don't want the guy , just that they are letting him out of his contract to chase his dream.  This was the case here the Riders would want very much to keep him.

Still he is not good enough to make the jets unless he is a special teams demon or something.

Jets also signed a CFL LB a week or two ago. Is that an ass backward decision too? You do realize offseason rosters expand to 90?

Carry on.
