Should jets trade up from 2nd Rd to bottom of 1st to get Center Billy Price?

All draftniks say only Center in draft who can start right away and ALSO has skill to call audible blocking assignments as he approaches line, aka Mangold, is OSUs Billy Price.

He was originally slotted for Jets w/6th pick in 2nd Rd. but his stock rising and he is now projected at bottom of 1st round, last 6 or 7 picks in Rd 1.

I would like 1 starting OffLIneman from draft and two from Free Agency. I would like to draft 2-3 OffLineman in draft (maybe the 3rd comes as best UDFA on our board that folks passed on)?

Need a revamped OffLine to protect whoever new QB is and a very good OffLine means you dont need a Tier 1 RB FA , you cna get a Tier2 to go alonf w/Powell/McGuire.

Quick answer HELL NO, if he is there when we pick sure in 2nd.  Address the inside of the line if Free Agency.

Now if you ask me would I trade up to Rd 2 to get Oklahoma OT Orlando Brown then HELL YES.  Draft Tackles, sign Guards, and Centers in FA.

I absolutely love this guy as a prospect and I think he’ll be great for many years, but I don’t think I would give up a high draft pick to go grab him. Only way I even consider this is if we miss out on Ryan Jensen in FA .. then I would look into the price to do so...and if too high of a price still wouldn’t do it. Most likely the Bills or someone with a need at the position/low first round pick will scoop him up.

  • Price would be great with the 6th pick on round 2.
  • He would also be great 22-32 or so of round 1, if we happened to trade down.   I agree that we should not give up draft picks to trade up.
  • Ryan Jensen would be good enough.
  • The Vikings picked the player we should have in the 3rd round and he made an assortment of all rookie teams and started for them, including in the NFCCG.  I think there are other centers who will be available rounds 2 and 3 that would be good.
  • The Bills will pick Price, and we will watch how good he is for 10 years.  There is not much we can do about it though.

agree Jensen 1st for sure. I am assuming we strike out there.. hell, he may bethere at #6 in 2nd Rd still.. I know in several mocks they have us taking him in Rd 2 still..

If we sign Cousins it goives us some flexibility w/picks

Jets are talent deficient. They need lots of positions to work out here. Not to mention i think this draft is going to have a lot of value in the 2nd round especially with rbs.

Build a great OL and you are a decent RB

They'll be other good centers available in the 2nd if we don't sign one already.

Not to start Day 1 who has smarts to call blocking audibles at LOS.

There might be projects I agree, but no starting Cenetrs in draft. Jensen is Option 1 as Free Agent.

I liked getting Brick and Mangold in the first round of 06 but I think there’s too many needs to be trading away any picks. Sign Cousins trade down get Nelson and an extra 2nd plus and draft 3 players in the 2nd round RB, WR, OLB etc

Remember, we SUCK at OL and if get Cousins, he is useless unless we rebuild a starting OL with at least 3 new bonafide real quality NFL starters. if we dont, Cosuins will be blitzed, we wont be able to run, aka Defense will stack box...sound familiar?

That would be incredible! Can you imagine trading back, drafting a 10 year starting badazz & having 3 picks in the 2nd round! DAMN! Sign me up! Especially if we signed Jensen & Norwell and cut Carpenter saving another 6 million. Protect Kirk Cousins...let him survey the field, everyone gets a pass! Kearse gets a pass... Enunwa gets a pass...Robbie gets a pass...Hansen gets a pass...Stewart gets a pass...Michel gets a pass out of the backfield.

You give TIME to a QB like Cousins & they most likey COMPLETE a lot of passes! Unlike Bryce Petty who can't hit a RB 5 yards away. You don't need SUPERSTARS at every position if you have a good QB, and you keep him upright!

I disagree

Center might be one of the strongest positions in this draft.

Price, Ragnow, Cole, Daniels...

I think every one of those guys has the ability to be a plug-and-play starter from Day 1 and I expect all of them to go within the first 3 rounds.

Price is probably the best of the bunch, though.

Ultimately I think the Jets sign a guy like Jensen or Richburg early on in FA. They have oodles of cash to spend and bringing in one of the top centers should be an easy get.

No. Hell no, man.

Not to devalue the position, but it's one of the easiest to fill in FA. If the right guy lands in your lap, sure -- but fck trading up for a Center.

I disagree that you can find a stud C in FA? Look at Mangold, that dude never hit the market until he was shot. The interior of the OL has become a premium for those that have pocket QBs, which is why you see the Pats and Saints letting their Tackles hit the market and paying a huge bag of money inside as they want that clean pocket for their guys to step into.

As recently as 2 years ago, the best Center in the NFL, Alex Mack, was a free agent. It happens, more so for Oline positions, than any other in the NFL

Well of course I didn't count the outlier of the Browns organization of not retaining Mack ?. But see where your coming from in not wanting to invest such a high investment in a C. I don't look at it that way and see him more as a stud plug and play player to go along with our young QB.
