Will Bengals cut Dalton?

Andy Dalton is coming off his worst non-rookie season with a 59.9 completion percentage, 3,320 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 6.69 yards per pass attempt.

His contract reached the point where it's feasible for the Bengals to move on from their starting quarterback if they're interested in doing so. Dalton's release saves the Bengals $13.9 million against the salary cap. But he's too valuable as a trade chip to let him loose and test the open market.

Marvin Lewis and Co. may be more comfortable moving forward with AJ McCarron as a starter after re-signing the 27-year-old quarterback. If so, teams will start calling about Dalton's availability.

The Jets desperately need a calming presence behind center. Dalton may not be the most gifted quarterback, and he can't carry his offense, but he's an experienced veteran with deep West Coast roots, like Jets offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates. A timing offense can be built around Dalton, while New York general manager Mike Maccagnan continues to improve the rest of the roster

Aj is much better.   Teams will fight over getting him.

On this, we disagree.  I think Bengal fans will beg for Dalton back as their starter (and I'm not Dalton fan either btw) once they see AJ Mccarron on a regular basis.  And for the record, I don't want Dalton on the Jets either.

On 80% of NFL teams the back up QB is almost always the most popular QB on the team......... until he plays a lot........ and other teams figure them out.

not for nothing, but that's what makes the garappollo hoopla more than a little strange.  sure he may be the second coming of montana or young but he's got all of 8 games of experience.  not only that but the other teams have only seen him for 8 games.  once he cycles through teams will either go wow or find ways to beat him.

I don't think they'll cut him. There should be a market for him if they decide to go with McCarron. That's questionable since they tried trading him to the Browns during the season and it didn't go through because it was posted too late. Dalton is on a moderate starter's contract http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cincinnati-bengals/andy-dalton-7750/ through 2020. For the Jets it's worth looking into if they think he's worth committing to.

Dalton isn’t great but neither is Cousins really.  If the bengals offer a mid-round pick then do it

The deal with Dalton is he usually had a good offense to work with and they had no playoff success. I think he's ok and you aren't going to get anybody much better than him and the salary for him is moderate. But he has 3 more seasons on his contract and the Jets might not want to commit to him for that long. If they sign him then you don't draft a Qb at no. 1. You would assume Dalton would be the starter.

And how many playoff games has Cousins won?

Did you take a close look at those wins in the last 5 games? A distraught Bears team with more injuries than an entire division combined 15-14.

Houston, flip flopping between Yates and Savage, no Watt, no Mercillus 26-16.

Titans 23-25. I guess you could say good win? But McCown also beat 4 playoff teams.

Jaguars, look it up. Jags did not have 1 healthy WR for this game. Not 1. 44-33.

Rams, Los Angeles sat every star player & started Sean Mannion at QB. 34-13.

Based on these 5 games, Garapolo just became the highest paid player in the NFL. Sure he won 3 games subbing for Brady but Matt Cassel went 11-5 too.

If I'm the Chiefs I go after McCown from day 1 of free agency. They will need an experienced and smart Qb like him to back up Mahomes. I'm not against us signing him either esp if we draft a Qb in round 1. But the Jets might have to make a fast decision on him because there are other teams who can use him, too.

I can't remember an off season with so many QB "possibilities"

However it shakes out I really just need a shiny new toy to fall in love with

This is SO TRUE! Never in an offseason have the Jets had do many options. Of course some are better than others & some (the draft) are complete unknowns but put the list together.

Cousins? Keenum? Bridgewater? Bradford? Dalton if cut? Taylor if cut? Mccarron in a trade? Foles in a trade.

At 6 in the draft, maybe Allen, Mayfield, Jackson or trade up for Darnold or Rosen.

With 2 picks in the 2nd maybe White, Rudolph or Lauletta? Of this I am sure. The Jets have NEVER had the opportunity of this many QB options.

Lets pray Macc gets it right. With all the differing opinions on this board it's not easy.

People are down on Cousins out here but high on Dalton; we really are a disturbed fan base.

For me it's a question of money. I can't see paying Cousins 2x what we would pay Dalton and 4x what you'd pay McCown. If Cousins is better he's not that much better.
