Quarterback-starved Jets fans try to recruit Kirk Cousins on Twitter

Prospective free agent Kirk Cousinss was watching SportsCenter on Tuesday when he saw his name appear in a graphic that teased an upcoming segment.

"The best spot for Cousins," it read.

The soon-to-be-former Washington Redskins quarterback apparently was bemused by the subject matter, so he tweeted a photo. He's sitting on a couch with his young son, and it says: "Cooper & I are interested in hearing where the best spot is for us. We have no idea yet."

One of his potential suitors, the New York Jets, has a quarterback-hungry fan base. Many of them want to see Cousins in green and white, so they used the social-media opportunity to recruit him. Some of their responses appear on my timeline because I retweeted Cousins.

Gotta hand it to New Yorkers; they can be persuasive.

Its nearly 50 years since Joe Namath won the Superbowl and Jets fans would make you king of NY if you lead us to the promised land. Young team with heart, good defense, and lots of money and high draft picks. Your throne awaits.

Another fan suggests to Cousins that he could be immortalized if he comes to the Jets.

@nyjets have young talent, dedicated fans, and money to spend. You can help us compete for a Super Bowl for many years. And when you raise that Lombardi trophy, you will become an all-time legend in the greatest city in the world.

This fan does some serious name-dropping.

Come to New York. It’s a great city to live in with the best schools for Cooper. Join the list Ruth, Mantle, Reed, Messier, Jeter, Cousins.

Cousins has said in recent interviews that his No. 1 priority is finding a winning situation. The Jets haven't made the playoffs in seven years, but they might offer the most money. Cold hard cash, according to this pragmatic fans, is the most important thing.

I'm sure there are at least 6 teams desperate for you. You can weigh a lot of factors, but my advice is to go where you get the most guaranteed money. NFL careers are short, so grab the lifetime financial security.

Actually, telling Cousins he could be just like Jeter is pretty savvy, considering that Cousins, too, is an average talent who would become wildly overrated by the New York media when surrounded by eight-to-twelve significantly better players with incurable steroid addictions.

Whoever is prescribing the Jets steroids is doing it wrong. Need to go to a seminar taught by the TB12 guy. That dude is a wizard.

Jets fans are an embarrassment.  This is just pathetic.

pretty sure literally eating horse sh-t, pissing on churches, climbing street poles, and setting random cars ablaze is several degrees worse than trying to convince a QB to come to NY via the twatter.

thats what i was thinking reading some of those last night. I saw first born daughters being offered up. Nothing against Kirk, i'm sure he'd bring some stability to the position... but like, that kind of energy and response -- where's that been for the last 4 years? We should all driving at Macc to draft us our franchise QB or GTFO

Exactly do what we have to do, to be in the position to draft the QB we want.

You're cranky today.

Every day.

With that said, this isn't crankiness.  It's called having self-respect.

E-stalking free agent NFL Football players online through social media, for fans to try and convince them to come to our town, is just so shuddery and modern-era pathetic, I literally don't know how to respond to someone who thinks this is perfectly normal and a good way to do business.

**** sake, have some pride maybe?  Don't beg and grovel and e-stalk people maybe?

The old "millennials" meme seems appropriate here.  The world revolves around them, so surely THEY, John Q. DerpFan, will "help" their teams GM win over the prized BMOC QB, right?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Exaggerate much? So some Jet fans reached out to Cousins on Twitter. What is that a felony? Lol. Not something I would do but what's the harm?

Telling he could have his name written in sports history in NY was pretty good. Cousins wins Super Bowl in Denver...oh, great...followed Elway & Manning.

Cousins wins a Super Bowl with the NY Jets....F*CKING LEGEND..and that's no joke & you all know it.

I dont understand the tweeter thingy but didnt Cousins ask his fans where he should go?

I dont think this was a concentrated effort unprovoked by Jets fans.

HIS fans?  his fans are the team that gets him.

i think this whole 'where should i go' crap is disgusting.  no need to cultivate love on social media.  he's going to be offered dozens of millions of dollars to be a mediocre starter for the next 5 years.
