Yeah, see, I don’t like making excuses for most coaches especially with the production and surrounding pieces we had around McCown last year, but Trevor Semian and an aging WR corps really doesn’t seem like a fair shake to me. Again, excuses are not to be made because it’s a “Show Me” type of league but Cousins, Johnson, Fitz and Co. sound like a pretty good situation for the once electric Mike McCoy offense. When he was in San Diego, he had a good vertical passing scheme for River, Gates, ect and it worked really well.

so aging wr corps isn't fair, yet Fitz is way older than Sanders and Thomas. When he was in SD yeah he had decent offenses and you are using the scheme being utilized for a TE. There is no TE close to what Gates was on the Cards. I dunno seems like you are holding onto past Cards teams abilities and totally discounting the fact that maybe McCoy and rivers were just a good fit. rivers > Cousins.

The aging WR corps would be true .. IF Fitzgerald wasn’t still stringing together 100 catch seasons. DT isn’t aging as well as Fitz has.

agree but my point is fitz is entering what season 15... was basically the only offensive weapon last year. and to your point the broncos had a sh*tty qb play all year. DT is not the DT of 5 years ago but he just turned 30 and I would be with average QB play he will be back to 1000yd seasons and is solid in redone.

Either way the point is true aging WRs on both teams.

and no way that plane makes it to london. gonna be in the middle of the ocean, lol

Now I am sure @Mike135will inform me that plane has a much longer range that I imagine.

Right but they still will probably resign John Brown and they do have David Johnson. But I do understand your point.

I guess they could sign brown again. I mean I want a guy that only broke 700yds 1 time and is missing 6 games a year.

lol, well if you have that much money to get the Air Force to fuel you up multiple times and give you an escort can you just buy the team. Surely you wouldn't do worse than the current owners.

The guy has not played in two years essentially and was not great when he did play.  He is a far worse option than mccwon imo and that is a horrifying thing to say.  (I hope none of the anti Bradford crew are okay with Bridgewater.)

i have been saying this same thing Bridgewater was never anything to get excited about and is a huge question mark

I hope not. One of these stop gaps is enough. Two will break me. I swear I won’t watch this team next season. I won’t be on the board. I’ll be done.

surely this means bridgewater wanted too much money and mac said F* it... lets get McCown for a year. and go to plan Q.... called bowles and said sorry mother *er we are drafting Rosen or Darnold....

I can hope, right?

maybe bridgwater was just a rumor to get McCown down to 10 mil... lol OMFG Josh "I am horrible QB" McCown is back..

its not bad enough that he had his Fitzpatrick year and cost us top 3 pick, but now we have to go through this sh!t again.....

Macc has really turned this around.

The only dark cloud now is the insane report that Mccown has already been named the starter.

the "naming mccown" the starter at this point seems dumb to me. I don't see the benefit to doing so.

Me neither.  It's kind of infuriating.

Unless maybe it's some sort of misdirection to make other teams think we're not drafting a QB.

Dude. according to report 3 of 4 of the FAs with lots of options turned down MORE MONEY to go elsewhere. But if you want to celebrate a Crowell, God bless I guess.

you seem to be the smartest most accurate poster here. .. .. lol, yeah, not so much. signing young FA's is better than older players. take out mccown and we are averaging what 26 / 27 yr olds as FA signings..

relax man its not that bad. wait until we see how the contracts are structured.

Also, Cousins and his 30 mil cap hit means we would have 4 less players that we need as probable starters...

I don't accept homework assignments, sorry. It was posted by someone here yesterday who claims an inside source. And by the way, the media (official media) has reported Kirk wanted $10 MILLION more from the Jets to play here. That's not exactly "going to a better situation for a little more." That's basically a middle finger. In fact not basically. It is a middle finger.

Cousins is not a top QB, let him go... its fine.

See how you just change the parameters when you get backed up? Cousins didn't just say no he said "OHHHH HEEEELLLLLLLLZ NO". It's an utter embarassment. Can't wait to see who else wanted McCown at $10M per. Hint: no body. Jets had no choice because no offensive skill player with legit options wants anything to do with this heap.

i never wanted to sign cousins, so i did not "get backed up"

I remember people were scratching their heads when we traded Calvin Pryor for Demario "retread" Davis. Now posters are furious we didn't give him a 3 year 24 million dollar deal.

Mingo is a low risk/high reward player. We aren't trading a 2nd round pick for him, just giving him some spare cash left over from the failed Cousins sweepstakes.

people are furious? i know i have only been in here sporadically but I am not seeing the outrage

By my estimates, looks like we have spent about $54mil so far.  We had about $90 mil cap space, so worst case, we should have about $36mil left.

image.png

We probably are more like $40M - $45M in space.  Contract details have not yet been reported for all players, so I am assuming average value as the 2018 hit for Johnson, Long and Williamson.  Its been reported that Crowell's hit will be $2mil this year.  Some, if not all of these probably have some big unguaranteed numbers on the back end, so the hit is likely lower this year.

Still plenty of space to go get a Honey Badger.

Usually I would balk at signing a nickel/safety.... but this kid is a playmaker and is only 26. Imagine a better Skrine and 1/5th the pass interference calls. I say do it. Like for Real.. and Mac after you get Honey Badger you look Todd Bowles straight in the eye and you tell him...

"Todd I am getting a top QB in this draft, and Offense is going to be the focus... I am done letting you whine and cry, and dictate draft picks to me. Have you not seen how irate the fans at JN are. They think I am a total moron. I have wanted to do this since day 1, after this you are out of excuses!!!!! Enjoy Mathieu and make this defense a top 5 unit like you say you can."

Try this: See all these posts freaking out about what a great fit Mathieu would be here? Minkah is a bigger, more athletic Honey Badger who won’t cost you $11 mil per season.

but we know HB is a playmaker and has proven it in the league, we also know he did well in TB defense. Minkah has never played an NFL game, remember Dee Milliner? lol. I mean he was supposed to be good and well he sucked so yeah I would spend a little more on a 26 yr old that has shown he can play at a high level.

A little more? You can get Minkah for for years for roughly the same money you’d be giving to Mathieu for one.

6th pick is going to get about 23 mil? for 4 years... so yeah its more than a little more, but do you want to take the chance on another Alabama DB flaming out, I feel like that is more of the Bama DB's trend in the league.

I’m only advocating for Minkah because it’d be the most catastrophic pick, both practically and emotionally. I’m not saying I want the player on my squad.

I'm just not sure that's the case - not at all.  There are many that believe Allen will be the first QB drafted and most others believe if he's not the first he'll be the second.

There are more mock drafts that I've seen that have Rosen falling to us than Allen.  I haven't seen one with Allen in fact (some Mayfield)

good. and i hope to god or whoever you believe in Rosen falls right in our laps. I am going to laugh so hard at the "draft allen" camp in about 3 seasons...

I move up to 3 for Mayfield who I prefer over Rosen anyway.

This is a bit crazy... if Rosen or Darnold are available there is no way I take Mayfield. I would take Mayfield if they were both gone, but I don't think I'd trade up to 3 for him.

If I were forced to predict how this Draft goes I'd say Rosen #1, Darnold #2, Chubb #3, Barkley #4, Mayfield #5.....with the Jets looking at a decision between Quenton Nelson and Josh Allen.

Then I say. Ugh as much as I don’t like it, we take Nelson and wait another year. Just start building the oline for Lock or Stidham

What do you think of Lamar Jackson? Not at #6 but in general.

39 minutes ago, aagarcia said:

We already have him if Bridgewater is healthy....

I’d be okay with Jackson it took me a while to come around on him but after watching him a bunch more I think that he would do well here and I think most people underestimate his throwing ability. He needs to clean up his footwork and base but the rest of him is pretty good.

On the NFL's agenda for next week's owners meeting: A vote on a proposal from the Jets to make pass interference a 15-yard penalty, per the doc, "unless the foul is determined to be intentional and egregious by the officiating crew."

Not including the Spencer Long contract, the #Jets have ~$44.5m in salary cap space, per OTC. $8.48m will be dedicated to the rookie pool, giving the #Jets ~$36m left
