I'd like to run a poll like this through the offseason to see where we're all at as far as wanting Cousins.  I'll close this poll this Sunday at midnight (2/25/2018 at 11:59PM).

If the Jets could sign Kirk Cousins for 6 years $180M but the contract would have to be 100% guaranteed, would you want the Jets to do it?

My own answer is no.

I don't think 6 yrs was the length of the deal the article was talking about for fully guaranteed.  I believe it was 3 or 4 yr.  A more interesting question is the new stories about a not fully guaranteed deal, but a balloon payment in 2018 of $60 mil.  That's an interesting poll question.  No way I'd say yes to a fully guaranteed $180 mil deal, but I'd say to a deal with $60 mil up front and lower cap hit later on.

Should we sign Kirk Cousins period? No

We shouldnt have to but this is the Jets.  If you and I were running this show, we wouldnt even have to put our name in the Cousins sweepstakes because we would have already had this situation solved.  Hell, even if we didnt we'd nail the draft and find a QB.  But we're not because nobody is smart enough to put us in charge.  So here were are, very serious as fans knowing the Jets are dead serious about giving ridiculous money to Kirk Cousins strictly out of necessity because of gross incompetence at a level the world has rarely seen.

Every day I check my empty voice mailbox is another day wasted for the New York Jets

Man a perfect world would be the Jets pulling a 2011 Cincy Bengals (we would take the RB not WR) grabbing BPA offensive weapon Rd 1 while avoiding Ponder, Gabbert, and Locker, in Barkley, then Rd 2 nail our QB with Kyle Lauletta who turns out to be much better then Andy Dalton while avoiding the stupidity to trade up to 3 to draft Allen, or Mayfield.

But this is the Jets we don’t get nice things smartly, we do stupid things to try, and get nice things, and never really ever works out.

I think it comes down to how much you believe in him. If you do that and front load the contract heavily, the cap hits shouldn't prevent us from acquiring talent. I think there would need to be some way to avoid cap penalties if he sustains a career ending injury. Something like the first 3 years fully guaranteed and then years 4-6 would be contingent on health, if he's medically clear then he's getting paid.

If we go strictly off the rumors and assume year 1 is 60M then:

Year 1 $60M

Year 2 $35M

Year 3 $25M

Year 4 $20M

Year 5 $20M

Year 6 $20M

that is something I'd probably fully guarantee because the final 4 years would be such a steal if he just continues to maintain this level of play. He's he doesn't depend on arm strength or speed which would be more apt to deteriorate with age. He's stayed health his entire career.

He'd only take up 12.5% in year 3 (same percentage as the 7th highest paid QB in 2018) which is when we start to resign players and that number drastically goes down each year, ending year 6 at 8.7% (same percentage as the 20th highest paid QB in 2018.) I also think he is a top 12 QB and with talent around him can lead us to a Super Bowl, if you don't think he can lead you to a Super Bowl then there is no way you make this deal.

edit - if you decide you want to trade him you could likely get a high pick because of how affordable his deal is. I think even if he plays poorly there will be GMs who will believe it wasn't the Jets fault and would be willing to trade for him on that type of deal.

Tuscany I don't get you....

You don't want KC but INSIST on starting new threads daily about him on the same theme and topic..

This makes sense to you????:(

There is a group of fans who want to set things up so no matter what the Jets do they can bitch and moan about what was done no matter what it is embarrassing.....

Come on Man......

Good Grief!!!

$180m guaranteed for Kirk Cousins rofl. This is actually a serious question, and there are several people here alone who are actually in favor of it?

Look what this franchise does to people who might otherwise be sane, and are most probably good and decent people. Some of them anyway, lol.

$180 million dollars. Guaranteed. People are in favor of it because Jets, and I can’t even get upset at any of them because it isn’t their fault.

Can’t they just guarantee half that and then promise to buy water and nutrient supplements from his newly-formed company?

I don't want Kirk Cousins but I start threads like this because:

1) There are plenty of rumors that the Jets badly want him

2) I think it's interesting to see what the prevailing thoughts are on this forum about him. It might be interesting to look back at this next year.  Maybe we'll look back and laugh?  Or maybe we'll be wondering "WTH were we thinking?!"

The question was intended to be extreme to see what lengths people on the forum would go to get Cousins.

I'm on board with signing Cousins but voted no. No option at QB is a lock so don't want to be handcuffed for six years. I'd vote for 6 yrs 180M but no garuantees and the ability to cut ties after 3 yrs. How about 30 signing, 30 yr1 Garanteed, apx 24 per every year after with just yr 2 &3 guaranteed

Thank you for this....

I now understand what you are saying and take back half of the things I said....Hahahaahahah :)

Carry on.....

I for one am in favor of KC that is obvious, but there is point at which it becomes a fools errand, especially when we could have gotten quality QBs in last year's draft.

It makes this whole thing IMO even more bizarre and absurd then even I thought was ever possible....
