Darnold not throwing at Combine

Not surprising.

Darnold (or more likely, his agent) knows all he can do now is hurt his draft stock.  There is nothing he can do to better it.

I doubt we see anything, of any meaningful kind, from Darnold before draft day.

I'd expect him to have a very well scripted pro day in his future.

He's still my #1 Qb but damn i hate when they jam out on this.  It is a fear reaction.  Don't be a chicken!

This is a big concern, IMHO. I don't like it at all. He doesn't have the confidence to throw at the combine, but he's gonna step it up in the NY media market? Unless he has an injury excuse, this is a genuine red flag. He may have the athletic ability, but you have to have the head to be a successful NFL QB.

I'm not that concerned, I think putting too much stock in the combine is not good anyway. If any player feels their draft stock is already at it's highest point there is no need to risk unneeded criticism. IMO only Allen and Jackson should be throwing at the combine (of the top 5) because of the accuracy issues.

The point is, who cares if he throws or not?

When you have a Tim Tebow like wind up, and turnover over concners and there are 4 other QB's who are arguably as good or better than you and could easily challenge where you're selected in the draft, I think it's perfectly legitimate to have some pause and concern.

Luck and RGIII didnt have top end competition like these guys do.  Their biggest threat to their draft position was a 28 year old Brandon Weeden.

But he has "it". Therefore, no need to throw!

I think Sam knows he is a top 5 pick regardless, if he were to tank the combine then maybe he has a bigger fall. Sure maybe some guys are fighting to earn that #1 pick status and the highest contract but something tells me they are also fine with not going to Cleveland especially when there is a legit shot you could wind up in Denver or either NY team.

He is stepping up in the Cleveland media market.  No worries there.

His release is his release. Just like Russell Wilson, they both shorten it when under duress. There is nothing he will do at the combine that will change that and improve his draft stock.

That's fair and a good point The fight for #1 overall might not be as strong as it has in the past because of the Cleveland factor.

Fair.  No argument here.  Like blah pointed out, the fight for #1 overall might not be like it's been in the past.
