I'd be fine with that, he seems like someone who would be motivated to give that Patriots rivalry a little juice. I wonder what his price will be because there are other CBs I like more than him.

Totally agree. I would be cautious of over paying him. Aaron Colvin would look great in green and white.

of course they will.  he plays defense.

Are you the same guy that would bash Macc if our CBs didn't play well next year? Pretty sure we can address offense AND defense in the same offseason. We've been rumored to be willing to part with 100 million for Kirk Cousins. I am pretty sure he plays some offense.

Butler is right up there with Gaines/Johnson/Melvin. But sniping a player from the Pats has some extra value imo....

no.  they did fine with the cbs they had.  there's only so much draft capital and money you can allocate to a secondary when your offense has no first rounders and needs an influx of talent at every position and none of your 11 starters except for maybe robbie anderson would start for another team.

so no, i'm not going to sit here and complain that the gm didn't throw bad money at cornerback.

Total JAG with Bowles and Rogers coaching him.

Kinda a JAG already. I am not a fan of Butler.

Sniping... lol.. no man they (Pats) are letting him walk, its not sniping. and he isn't that great. its basically us taking what they consider garbage. And no he is not right up there. He is nothing special

CBs on the roster as of today:

Buster Skrine, Daryl Roberts, Juston Burris, Rashard Robinson, Jeremy Clark, Derrick Jones, Xavier Coleman, Bryson Keeton

When Buster Skrine is your best, most experienced CB, you need to upgrade the position.  I have no problem with them going after a starter in FA, but Malcolm Butler would not be at the top of my list.  Johnson, Fuller, Gaines & Colvin would all be preferable to Butler IMO.

He's a solid play making CB  that the pats can't afford to keep..we have the cap space to sign him while the kids develop or we stumble upon a younger option down the road.

No one is suggesting we break the bank for him but we have 100 million in cap space and aside from cousins and oline, I don't see any other pieces we will spend money on.

thats your opinion, I get it. But don't tell me the only reason he won't be with the pats is $, they were trying to move him last offseason and this year they are just washing their hands of him. He is nothing special, we should not sign him, especially for mid + CB money.

I don't think he's great, but, he's practiced against the Pats 1st string offense his whole career so he could probable relate to the players around him what's coming just based on formation. That's worth a couple extra million we have to waste. Like a coach on the field, which is great since our defensive coaches on the sideline suck.

He did something to be sat in the freaking Super Bowl! But no one can tell me that it didn't  come back to bite Belichick right in in fat azz! Butler most likely would have made the one play the Pats needed to get off the field that Rowe didn't. And that's the facts jack! lol.

The fact that the pats benched his butt in the biggest game of the year has nothing to do with them letting him go.

Sad truth is that when they miss on Cousins, Maccagnan is going to be forced to dole out huge contracts to guys like Butler just to hit the cap floor.

And to make it look like the Jets are "doing something".

Pass on signing Patriots because **** ex-Patriots.

FWIW, Malcom Butler has some appeal with a recognizable name and is young.  Mac's track record of getting these guys to sign is similar to Pac's track record on getting anything Football related right.  So expect that big contract go to go to someone like Navaro Bowman and/or Tyvone Branch with a little Jonathan Joseph sprinkled in.

Lol isn’t Joseph like 40 years old?

With Ansah being Tagged and the Cowboys saying they aren't going to let Lawrence go, the only options for us to improve our Defense through Free agency will likely be at CB. So might as well snag Butler or Johnson.

I agree with many here that our primary focus this offseason should be on offense, but if we don't address CB in free agency we are doomed to take one in the 1st/2nd rounds. I rather use those picks for an edge rusher and offense.
