He will be a Jet. They CAN'T do 60 guaranteed right away. That will win the day along with Bates and the idea of building around him as the franchise

Yes, Yes they can.  It depends on the size of the signing bonus.  For instance, $10 million Salary and $50 million signing bonus.  Only $20 mill first year cap hit.

Edit:  The biggest obstacle i see is the cap space in 2019.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am sick and tired of getting the team you guys deserve.

I disagree.  Rosen and Darnold have plenty of knocks.  I don't think they're much safer than Mayfield and Jackson, although they are more conventional.

I'm starting to come to the conclusion that it's better for us to take Mayfield or Jackson @ 6 and pick-any-two combination of offensive-line help, edge-rusher, offensive playmaker and cornerback in the second round.

I'm not saying I'm necessarily against trading-up at this point; I'm just not ready to pull the trigger yet.  In my mind at least, I can make a reasonable argument against it.

We'll get more information this weekend @ the combine.

lol.  This is not a story.  I saw the press conference clip.  Gettleman said that he'd trade # 2 if blown away by an offer because, when you're drafting that high, you're looking to take a future Hall of Famer.

I.E. If you don't think that player can end up a HOFer, trading the pick makes sense.

That's a philosophy that is the same for any GM worth his salt, in any year.  It doesn't mean the Giants are any more or less likely to trade the pick as they were yesterday.

If a reporter asks a GM "would you consider___________"  The answer is always going to be yes. "Mr GM, would you consider trading your mother to sex traffickers for a 7th round pick?" asks the reporter.  "Sure we would consider that. Always looking for opportunities to improve the team" replies Mr GM. Just because they reply to some reporter that they would consider it, doesn't mean they really are considering it.

Bingo.  That's all this was.

Any asset can be traded at any time for the right price.  That does not mean a trade is imminent.

Guys, turnover prone isn't a bad thing if you also throw TD's.  Gunslingers have a lot of success in this league.  It's not ideal, but it can win you a championship.

Sanchez would have been fine if he could get a couple TD's a game.  Instead, we got a bunch of 3 and outs, a bunch of turnovers, and a few TD's.

A 3 TD, 3 INT game is good.  A 1 TD, 0 INT game is bad.

I would assume they'd be interested in our #1 next year more so... so that + change

Would may very well be another top 10 pick. Giants would certainly love the trade. Jets could have lost 2 more games and inherited the #2 pick without giving up anything. They decided winning 5, as opposed to 3 was much more important. Can’t change their minds now.

Darnold

Rosen

Allen

Mayfield

Name the two that are a consensus lock to be better then the other two? its a trick question...you cant. Anyone who says Darnold is a lock is crazy, he turned the ball over at a historic rate IN COLLEGE, and Rosen after missing time with a major shoulder surgery missed like 33 days with a concussion. Granted i am about as far as you can get from an evaluator, but why would i trade away valuable picks to get a guy at 2 that i may get at 6? or may be as good as the guy at 6?

Forgot Jackson, who could be the best out of all of them in a year.

This is why mccagnan will not trade up. He will let the draft come to him and I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a play for Lamar Jackson.

Dave Gettleman Says Giants Are Open to Trading No. 2 Pick in 2018 NFL Draft

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman said Wednesday the organization would consider trading the second overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.

Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com relayed comments Gettleman made about the potential availability of his prized asset during a media session at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

"Are we open for business? You know, whatever. Any decision I make is going to be in the best interest of the New York Football Giants. Plain and simple," he said. "So if someone makes me an offer I can't refuse, would I move back? Depends on who is there."

Gettleman took over the Giants' GM job in late December after previously serving in the same capacity with the Carolina Panthers from January 2013 through July 2017.

The 67-year-old executive was light on specifics about the team's offseason plan of attack, including what position the franchise would target if it stayed at No. 2. While New York has been considered a potential landing spot for the class' top quarterbacks, new head coach Pat Shurmur said longtime face of the franchise Eli Manning has "years left as a starting quarterback in this league," per Raanan.

"Again, if there is a guy worthy of being the second pick of the draft and what we're basically saying and answering that question to the affirmative, you're drafting what you think is going to be a Hall of Fame player," Gettleman added. "So you can't get too cute about that thing."

By not tipping their hand about whether they'd target the likes of Sam Darnold (USC), Josh Rosen (UCLA), Mason Rudolph (Oklahoma State), Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma), Lamar Jackson (Louisville) or Josh Allen (Wyoming), the Giants are maximizing their leverage in potential trade talks.

Manning is coming off a year where he tossed 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions across 15 appearances. His 80.4 passer rating tied for 25th among qualified quarterbacks, while Pro Football Focus graded him as the league's No. 28 QB.

Those lackluster numbers paired with his advanced age (37) would suggest its time for the Giants to start looking toward the future at the position.

That said, if they aren't convinced any of the aforementioned college standouts are the long-term answer, they should be able to command a king's ransom to move back from No. 2 given the large number of teams looking to upgrade at quarterback this offseason.

With an aging QB, a WR who wants 20 million,  and major attitude issues in the secondary, he better he better hope to make the right decision for that franchise with that #2 pick.

Not drafting a QB there would be idiotic for the Giants.  If they double-down on Eli, that would be a laughably bad decision.

Yes, I saw that press conference clip.  Read the article.  Everything he is saying is GM-speak.

No GM, ever, would say "No, the pick is not for trade".  Because you never know when someone will swing in and give up more than has ever been offered for a top pick.

Eli is the Giants messiah drafting a QB would bring out all the fans who are crybabies who protested, whined, cried when they benched him.

It's like the old parable of negotiation.

A man approaches another man and says "Would you lick the bottom of my shoe if I offered you a dollar?"

"Certainly not, that's gross.  I would NEVER do that."

"How about for $1 million?"

"Well....sure, for $1 million I would...."

"OK, how about 2 dollars?"

"Certainly not, that's gross.  I would NEVER do that."

"I think we've established you WOULD do that.  Now we're just negotiating on price."

I get that. I do. But with the cap going up and the money is close enough he will choose the Vikings over the Jets every time. They are quite literally a QB away from a Championship. We are an absolute mess.

The question is will the Vikings investigate? They are the real threat to the Jets signing Cousins, not Denver

In other words, the Giants may LOVE their options at 2.  They may have very little interest in moving the pick.  But if one of the other GM's out there picked up the phone and offered, say, four 1st round picks.....he'd have to at least CONSIDER it.

And that is true for any GM in his position.

No, which is why this article is silly.  No one knows what the Giants will do with the pick.  And this article does nothing to get inside his mind.  He's saying exactly what every other GM says in press conferences like these.

i'd hate that deal. 6 + 2 potential starters for the second best QB....i'd rather take the 3rd best QB and keep the 2 potential starters (insert joke about jets 2nd round picks here).

I would have preferred just tanking correctly.

I've posted numerous times in the thread, because the topic is interesting.  As are the points people have been making within it.

My problem is with the journalist who wrote the headline.

That's a loser strategy. We have no QB.... that is literally the worst mentality to go into a draft when you're targeting a Quarterback.

The worst.

If the Vikings played in Scandinavia, you'd be spot on there.  Jersey chicks are gross though, so Minnesota can't be any worse.

The internet...the gift that keeps on giving...in this case a Vikings fan showing off her 'V' tooth.
