Combine/Draft rumors thread.(trades, tidbits, etc)

Thought maybe we could have a separate thread for all the juicy tidbits and rumors from the combine and even afterwards leading up to the draft. It will be much easier for folks to see what’s going on with teams regarding trading picks and more importantly easier to keep up with our own prospect/trade interests. The draft section doesn’t get visited as often and I feel like this tweener between regular news and draft news.

Lol. Yea that’s gonna work. Posters start multiple threads about the same ******* story. You think they’re gonna put different sh*t in one.

My choice would be Mayfield. Man he would be fun to root for. Spend through free agency to get talent on the roster and add Baker.

No guarantee they can get him, that is the scary part.

I love him and would gladly take him if the top two are gone. Not so high on Darnold anymore but I know he has a chance to be good. With that said Mayfield is just as/more exciting. I think Maccagnan fell in love with him during the Senior Bowl. I bet that whiteboard session was impressive. They wanted to know what Baker’s football IQ was like and came away impressed.

I would hope that they try and contain themselves as I had to before I retired my famed Paperboy alias.

His arm strength made it not matter, but when Pennington was young, he was fun to root for. Dude came out head butting his teammates and just brought an insane energy level. The results on the field ended up not being good enough because of the noodle arm. Baker's energy (if he can avoid the stupid stuff) reminds me of Chad.

I read the Mayfield one too, and I'm a bit suspicious.  For Hackenberg, all we heard of was secret meetings and how paranoid they were about their interest leaking.  Almost feel like the Jets want to hype up Mayfield as their option...................so Fitzpatrick drops, lol.

IF the Jets don't land Cousins and draft a defensive player at #6, it will be at the top of the list of all time stupid moves for this franchise.

using history as a predictor, mccags prefers allen or rosen, assuming darnold is gone.  when all is said and done i wouldn't be surprised if mayfield drops to the bottom 3rd of the first round.

If we don't take him, I think Miami will make a move for him.

I hope we are as high on Mayfield as rumored, I also hope the NFL wants to boost ratings, sending Mayfield to the largest media market to a franchise that has been salivating for a QB for 50 years would certainly do that. That said I still think Mayfield doesn't fit the mold of a Macc QB and I'm worried this is a smoke screen so we can get Rosen or Allen. As long as it is one of the top 4 I don't really care, Mayfield just feels like he fits the Jets more than any other team.

Miami is a dark horse in the QB market. Rumors are they tagged Landry with the intent of trading him, would be interesting to see what teams would bite on a deal. Maybe the Colts would take 11 + Landry + 2019 1st, I think they could land Davenport or Key at 11.

if you are mccags though, would drafting allen save your job?  he wouldn't start right away, and may not start all year.  so you'd have the 6th pick of the draft sitting all year ala hackenberg.  i can't see that happening, honestly.  if mccags trades up, it will be for darnold or rosen.  if not he can sit and take mayfield at 6 or do his usual thing and take BAP which would probably be nelson.

Which is it?   The Jets plan to be the most aggressive team in the Cousins pursuit or they want Mayfield?

I know not to take any of this sh*t serious but if they truly think Mayfield is worth of #6 overall and Watson wasnt, I might be tempted to hunt down Big Mac and gouge his eyes out with a spoon.

I think taking a QB in the top 6 saves Macc's job regardless. The only QB that would be a day 1 starter is probably Rosen, anyone else would likely sit for half a season to a season. I think whoever the Browns take could start but it wouldn't shock me if they eased in their rookie too since they still have Kizer.

I think the answer is both, push hard for Cousins and if that fails then you are making a move for Mayfield/rookie. I really think passing on Watson last year had more to do with us not really believing in him + still believing in Hack with the added benefit of being able to go BPA and potentially target Cousins/2018 draft when we'd have a high pick in what was perceived to be a better QB class. It seems like most QB needy teams passed on him last year (Cleveland 2x, 49ers, Bears, Jets, Bills) which leads me to believe the consensus was that he and Mahomes may not be seen as franchise guys. We have the benefit of hindsight now but even then that doesn't mean Watson produces the same here with a significantly worse roster.

Maybe I have green shades on but I'm more forgiving of passing on a QB last year because of the points I mentioned above. Passing on a QB this year would have me calling for his head immediately after our pick is in.

It was stupid then like it's stupid now and those teams mentioned, arent exactly the models of success around the league, they're just as stupid as the Jets.  Just because other teams are stupid doesnt excuse the Jets for being stupid.

Mac said he didnt think Watson was worth the #6 overall.  Those words came out of his mouth.  If he actually thinks Mayfield is, than I want to gouge his eyes out with a spoon.

I agree that you are probably right.  If it’s Darnold or Rosen, or even Mayfield, it may work.  If it’s Allen and the guy looks like trash while all the other options we had at QB look better, he may be gone next year.

I disagree with that logic, I don't think it is wise to draft a player at 6 if you don't believe in him, that smells like a recipe for disaster.

That's not the point, the point is, it was stupid to think he wasnt the player he is.

If we take a QB in the top 6 I don't believe Macc is gone next year, I could see Bowles getting canned but if we fire Macc then we should have done it BEFORE selecting a QB. Much like the Knicks should have fired Phil Jackson before he drafted a player to fit into the triangle.

There are a lot of options that will buy Mccags time.  There is only one that deserves immediate firing:

If a team lower than us (ex. Zona) gets Cousins and the 4 rookie QBs go ahead of us and we skip Chubb Barkley and Nelson for Minkah, Mccags needs to be shown the door.

If you simply aren't a fan of Mayfield, that's one thing, but when it comes to any degree of decision-making, there's no worse idea than letting past poor decisions influence your future ones.  If they have a shot at someone they believe to be a potential franchise guy, their missing out last time around is not a reason to simply not even try next time.

I would add to that if a team trades up ahead of us into the 2 or 3 slot and takes a QB.  (unless of course we have signed cousins)

If anyone knew what Watson would become he'd have been the #1 pick

And if anyone knew what Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers would become...

it still doesnt excuse a team desperate for a QB for the past 50 years to pass on Watson.  Especially if it was because of Christian ******* Hackenberg's presence.  Especially if they follow it up and take a lesser prospect at #6 the following year.

These things all point to - stupid.  Which I think we already knew about Mac/Todd but it's still fun to point it out when the Mayfield at 6 discussion comes up.
