NFL Rumors: Broncos Going ‘All-In’ On Kirk Cousins Free Agency Pursuit by Darren Hartwell on Fri, Mar 2, 2018 at 10:24AM1,916 Photo via Brad Mills/USA TODAY Sports Images

Von Miller might want to ramp up those Kirk Cousins recruiting efforts.

The Denver Broncos will go “all-in” with an effort to sign Cousins when free agency begins March 14, Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson reported Thursday, citing two sources familiar with the team’s free agency plans. Cousins has “risen above” all other free agent options for Denver, Robinson added.

There’s no surprise here: The Broncos have wasted an elite defense with dreadful quarterback play since Peyton Manning retired, and the trio of Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler combined to win just five games in 2017. Adding Cousins would, in theory, thrust them right back into the mix as an AFC contender.

It appears Cousins actually will be on the market this time, too: The Washington Redskins aren’t expected to place the franchise tag on the 29-year-old, allowing him to seek a big payday in free agency. Denver should have the capital to acquire Cousins, though, as the team already has mapped out scenarios to free up between $40 and $50 million in cap space this offseason, according to Robinson.

The Broncos certainly aren’t alone in their pursuit of Cousins. The New York Jets reportedly are willing to break the bank to land the six-year veteran, while the Minnesota Vikings and even the Dallas Cowboys could be in play. But Denver is just three seasons removed from a Super Bowl title and could present quite an enticing landing spot for the most coveted QB on the free agent market.

All of the latest reporting is probably manufactured. This Cousins deal is most likely already done but wont be announced until FA begins.

If he ends up a Bronco/Viking it will probably be remembered as one of the last times a really good qb hit free agency. If he signs with us it'll probably be remembered as the time the Jets massively overpaid for Kirk Cousins.

If Denver gets him, the Vikings will likely go back to Mr. Glass Bradford which will end poorly. Vikings QB situation is even more unsettled than ours. And is also a case of teams once again refusing to move from original draft grades as Keenum played awesome and never get any respect, while Bradford gets WAY WAY too much. I will just be excited when Cousins signs somewhere else.

If we're not going to land him, the best case scenario is him signing with Denver so they're not looking QB @ 5.

This. Cousins signing here will be good. Cousins signing with the Vikings will be bad.

If the Broncos sign Cousins the Jets get to continue with the rebuild and do it the right way for the long term. With Barkley doing what he has done at the Combine I don't see how the Giants can pass him up.

Browns - Darnold.  Giants - Barkley. We need the Colts to build around Luck and the Browns to keep their 4th pick. Broncos with Cousins wouldn't take a QB and then the Jets would pick between Rosen and Mayfield. (Pick Mayfield).

Need the Colts and Browns to not trade down.

If the Broncos get Cousins they would most likely trade the #5 pick to a QB starved team for an outrageous price.

Cousins signing with the Broncos could force the Jets to jump ahead of that #5 pick and it would cost a fortune to move up one or two spots.  The thought sickens me, actually.

The Broncos are also desperate for offensive line help, too.  I could see them signing cousins and taking Nelson @ 5.

I hear your point that Denver signing Cousins doesn't guarantee a non-QB @ the fifth pick, but it sure-as-hell is more likely to play out that way if they sign Cousins as opposed to Minnesota.

Expecting that is unrealistic. A good chance one or both do trade back.  5-11 costs you multiple picks to move up when you must.

Even if Denver wanted Nelson at 5, they would make the Jets trade up with them, like Chicago had to do with SF.  There are no deals for a QB.

Agreed. No way they use that pick at five if they get cousins. At the very least they take one of our second rounders.

Hopefully they both fall in love with the CB and OG that are sitting there when they pick.

Reports saying he wants a short term deal of 3-4 years. So he can cash in once more. Greedy bastard.

His last franchise, despite foolishly franchise tagging him twice, taught him a lesson that you do what's best for you and not what's  best for management. I can't blame him. Either way, a 3-4 year deal where he will be motivated to get an even bigger deal in 3 years isn't a bad thing.

I'm not so sure about that - trading out of 3,4, 5 mean you're leaving an elite prospect on the table -

Ask yourself this - if the Jets signed Cousins and they're sitting at 6 - would you trade #6 overall for the Bill's 21 and 22?

I wouldn't.

Absolutely i would.  Who are the jets getting, a guard?  A cornerback?  I definitely would trade back.

You're going to have the 3rd best position player in the draft.  I wouldn't trade it.

This is a league of impact players - of which the Jets have none.

Between now and the start of free agency, the jets need to strike a deal with the Browns for the 1st pick in the draft and let it be known that their target is Saquon Barkley . Then they should leak eminent signings of Weston Richburg and Paul Richardson .

Now I throw big money at Kirk Cousins and see if he's interested .
