If you could only keep 4 Jets on Offense and 4 Jets on Defense, who would they be?

Defense: Leo, Maye, Adams, D.Davis, Morris Claiborne.

Offense: Kearse, Beachum, Enunwa, Brain Winters.

I legitimately had to sit here and think for about 40 minutes on who I really wanted to take out of our Offense..it really makes you realize just how much of a trash heap that side of the ball is. Cousins knows this too lmao.

The pathetic part about this exercise is that I cringed trying to come up with three other players (outside of Enunwa) worth keeping on the offensive side of the ball.

Offense: Enunwa, Robby Anderson, Brian Winters, Ardarius Stewart (for upside only)

Defense: Adams, Maye, Leonard Williams, Darron Lee.

How many variables factor into this? Just talent or do we have to consider contractual obligations?

Offense - Kearse, Enuwa, Carpenter, Powell

Defense - Williams, Lee, Adams, Maye

Note - not a big Lee fan but you almost have to pick him by default. Our offense is a big mess. Had a hard time naming 4, so much I had to place Carpenter and Powell up there.

I see this point, this team is a mess smh

Lets say 3 years

And regardless of cost?

Not trying to be a dick - it happens without trying - but seriously, all things are not equal to just choose names (1 yr vs 3 yrs, which you now outlined here, $4m/year vs $15m/year). Leo at $4m with an expiring contract isn't the same as Leo at his extension amount of (guessing) ~$18m/year. Above someone mentioned Demario Davis. If kept, do I have to pay him $10m/year? Because then I'd rethink that answer.

Offense: ... nobody. Literally not one offensive player from this roster if I was team-building. The only one with real talents are Robby and Enunwa. Robby not only isn't all that, plus he's a douchebag and an imbecile. Enunwa is too premature to say keep for the next 3 seasons, because we haven't seen him recover from injury. There isn't 1 good player on the OL, and arguably not even one average player on the OL. Powell is too old to keep for 3 more seasons. McGuire maybe just because of age but he was hardly impressive last year (ditto the rookie WRs). I'd rather keep the roster spaces open.

Defense: Leo is an easy answer. Adams also, just because of this potential I hear about and how little else the team has anyway. Then blindly pick 2 names out of a hat among Maye, Lee, Jordan, and I guess Claiborne assuming they do extend him (but depends on how much, since he's still got a hell of an injury history).

What a freaking embarrassment...this roster.

Sort of why I started thread. Making a point.

Do the same for the Browns, Giants, Colts and Broncos?  You would have a much easier time, yet the Jets are picking beneath them.

Those 2 idiots did way too well last year-completely overachieved.  The price for that deal with the devil will be no Cousins, no top 3 QB, and continued misery/mediocrity.

On defense I think you need to go Leonard Williams, Jamal Adams, Marcus Maye, and Morris Claiborne (assuming we're counting last years starters and not only guys under contract.) You could sub in Demario Davis who is probably a better ILB than Claiborne is a CB1 but corners are tougher to come by.

Offense is legitimately difficult. I think I'd keep Kearse, ASJ, Winters, and Anderson. But really, there isn't a single position on offense that doesn't need to be upgraded and our best playmaker is a sub-human retard who can stop driving 100 mph.

But yeah, this is a great exercise for underlining how little talent we have, especially on offense where it's remarkable McCown had the year he had last year.

related question: if we cut everyone, and just fielded new draftees and UDFA and some FA pickups would we be worse?

This is another reason signing Cousins is just dumb. We are just not ready for a veteran QB

Cousins knows that, but we shall see.

I am thinking that Cousins ends up disappointed in what he gets paid-I think the three year deal is also a bit sleezy.

But then again, we shall see.

3 year deal for Cousins would be a non-starter for me.

Defense: Leo, Adams, Maye and Minkah (you know he’s coming here!)

Offense: Enunwa, Kearse, McGuire aaaaand Hack cuz the seasons are long and you need a QB who can hit the ocean...from the beach.

O: winters, shell, enunwa, anderson

D: leo, adams, maye, davis

this exercise proves there is not a team out there worse at identifying/drafting high end offensive talent than us.

If we drafted Barkley would he already be ranked in our top 5 offensive draft picks in history?
