We have done players, coaches etc. but I don't recall a Mt. Rushmore of Jets General Managers. I hope it's not depressong as the 'pick 4 Off and 4 Def Jets to keep' thread, LOL

Put in this format ,as we did in Top 4 Jets to keep etc........GM name1, GM name2, GM name3, GM name4 (didnt want to do a poll, too lazy)

Choices to pick your Top 4:

All Jets General Managers:

Person Teams From To Titles Notes

I want to say Jim kensil for drafting Wesley Walker, Gastineau, Klecko, Lyons, Marvin Powell, Freeman McNeil, etc.

But taking O’Brien over Marino, as well as the entire 86 and 87 drafts, just ruin it.

I didn't realize this. That's a nice list. As far as Marino, don't forget that a s#itload of other teams passed on him as well.

Parcells here 97 thru 2000, and then after he left , with those FAs/Draft picks Jets strung together playoffs in 4 of next 6 years.

So far I have Weeb, Kensil, Parcells, Tannenbaum (Tanny GM 2006-2012 and had 3 playoffs and 2 near misses. His style more FA oriented, but we were cheering the teams in December for most part)

So true plus Marino would have wound up getting the crap beat out of him just like Obrien did if he went to the NYJ

That's a very valid point. Marino's whole career might have come out totally different. No HOF if he were a Jet. lol

I give tanny credit for going for it on some deals to help us get some good players for those two runs.  I also condemn him a great deal for being rex' s bitch and caving into anything rex wanted and for treating lower round picks like trash to be thrown away.

Tanny started out as a very competent GM who built a team that went to back to back AFCCGs, but then he went off the deep end. It makes me think that Mangini was the one pulling the strings from 2006 to 2008.

Besides Weeb, I don't see any other GM who deserves any sort of praise

Kenny got the crap beat out of him because he had a slow release and couldn't move in the pocket. Pat Ryan never had a problem.. Marino had 2 5'9 receivers and no running game.. With Toon,Walker Mickey Shuler and Freeman at RB and his quick release he would have done just fine..

We should have made Ron Wolf the GM when he was with the Jets in 1990-91 instead the Packers hired him as their GM and the rest is history..

Yeah, it's like we never really had that combination of good GM/coach. Parcells was a great coach, but I'm sorry to say was an awful GM. He had the chance to draft Peyton Manning, and instead, traded down.

Bradway - just because how the hell did he keep his job and stay in the building so damn long...

wait is he still in the building?

Bradway will ALWAYS be in the Jet Building.  Kind of like "The Shining".

Jeez was that guy HORRIFIC.  Although, now all you youngsters gather round to hear this tale...Legend has it that Bradway "POUNDED the Table" begging for the Jets to draft Russell Wilson...but alas it just did not happen.  If only there was a Super Bowl Trophy for excuses.  The Jets would be some team.  Methinks there will be a similar tale with Maccagnan THIS year, his FINAL Year as an NFL "GM".  He can be GM again in 2019, but by then Woody will have gotten the Morse Code message over in London that about 9 "Fans" are buying tickets to his Sh*thole stadium.  No Plane equipped with banner will be necessary, neither Maccagnan nor Bowles could run a corner Bodega.

F**kin Jets take the Bradway's GM Title from him yet STILL keep the bum in a Front Office job....hhahahhahhahaha

I am really sorry, not to point you out - in fact you're not even really saying this but...

i'm really tired of hearing that every great player would have sucked if he was a Jet.  The Jets organization is not nearly as disfuctional as many fans make them out to be.  I love Ken O'brien (one of my favorite Jets) but he held on to the ball too long.

Dan Marino had a quick release and was smart - he would have been an amazing QB wherever he played.

Slow release lol.

Joe Namath had the fastest release in the league but that didnt prevent the terrible o line play from getting him killed.

For Kenny it all started out great with Powell Alexander Fields Sweeney McElroy

By 1990 the OL was Criswell Haight Sweeney Cadigan Miller

Obrien was a genuine FQB but was ruined by that turnstile offensive line.

Marino is my pick for GOAT but was a statue and would have suffered the same fate as Ken.

The Dolphins did a good job of keeping Dan from becoming a tackling dummy.

Could you imagine how much shorter his career would have been getting murdered for the early -mid 90's Jets?

I didn't say Kenny he had a slow release - just that he held on to the ball too long (very different) and he did.

Marino had the quickest releas I've ever seen - And Marino would have been great on the Jets and had just as long a career - The Dolphins never surrounded - GOAT - with a team capable of winning a SuperBowl.

You can't compare what the D could do in the 60's compared to the rules after 1978.. The D line and DB's got away with murder before then.. D linemen could head slap the O line men at the snap..

Yup, Kenny was my favorite player growing up by far but Marino was better at getting rid of the ball and helping his oline whereas Kenny made a suspect Oline worse.

The Packers got Ron Wolf, then hired our first choice of HC in Holmgrem, and then traded for the QB we had rated #1.

Good times.

John Idzik Jets 2013 2014 General Manager
Mike Maccagnan Jets 2015 2017 General Manager

There's not a lot to choose from but based on that list:

some of these guys weren't real GMs by the way.

1. Weeb- although we were mostly losers under him he built a SB champion and that trumps all.

2. Tannenbaum- built the next closest SB team and had the only run where we had multiple SB shots.

3. Jim Kensil.  had a run of 4 playoff apps during those years.

4. I'm not sure who to put here as I don't know when Steinberg got sick but under his watch we brought in a lot of talent even if it didn't translate to wins. Moore, Lewis, Jones, Glenn, Green, Mathis, Don Boyd Odegard:D, Dwayne White, Brian Washington, Jeff Blake, Glenn Cadrez, Adrian Murrell, Richie Anderson, ...
