Norwell to giants a done deal already?

Not the year to sit on your hands. It's all in, we have to make this roster better. Second tier FA's, and not being aggressive in the Draft will get our GM and HC fired, and it will also set us back years. Imagine if Buffalo and Miami move in front of us and get two franchise QB's

Sherman signing with SF would help thin the herd of potential FA landing spots. Our only problem is what receiver would want to sign with a team with no QB?

Gonna have to show him the money and let him know we plan on getting a actual QB one way or another and that he is a vital piece in fixing this team. Similar pitch to what they would have make for Cousins.

Agree, but the Jets do not appear to be doing anything besides talking about being aggressive, can Chris even sign checks or do they need a notary in the UK?

Sherman to 49'rs, Talib to Rams, and the Jets have not even resigned their own FA's...

I think its our constant fear of something going wrong for us.  When I hear the that the Jets are in love with a player and will go hard after them, I'm thinking why do they let any info out.  Be quiet and go get the people when the time starts.   When I don't hear then linked to anyone then I'm wondering if they are a sleep at the wheel and we will miss out on players.

It ain't easy being Green.

They say as soon as FA starts they will have Allen Robinson on the phone in an attempt to lure Cousins.

This + sign a center, + sign McKinnon + a TE FIRST and ASAP, absolutely should be the strategy regardless if we want Cousins. I hope Cousins signs with Denver, leaves us with one less team to fight a trade up for.

Allen Robinson and a Center need to be signed by us the second FA hits. Cousins won’t come here unless we build up our house a little, plus he’ll take a day or two to decide. Focus on everything else first.

Ok, but someone has to play football for the Jets, right? could get worse than last year or maybe it will be a new fan experience - you wanted a tank - throw on a jersey and get out there LOL :)

I'm thinking crazy things like using money to sign good players.

Couldn't agree more. If we don't strengthen our OL, especially center, whoever winds up being our QB won't make it through the first few games  in one piece.

The Jets front office has been very tight since Macc & Bowles have been here. Bowles had the biggest blunder, proclaiming Fitz our starting QB when he wasn't even under contract & Todd later admitted that he made a mistake.

There is no doubt in my mind the Jets have a plan, no doubt they have been leaking BS to Cimini & Manish. I do believe they will be very aggressive with the players they've targeted in free agency, it's just a matter of whether or not they want to play for NY Jets. I get a kick out of fans thinking Macc is actually hinting to beat writers what his plan is, lol. He hasn't done that since he's been here. Look how long it took for info on Mo being late for meetings. Something he was doing quite a lot it seems.

Macc is sitting patiently by the phone waiting until the minute he is legally allowed to contact FAs at which point he will dial (rotary phone) the first agent on his list.  By the time he finishes dialing, 17 of the top 20 FAs will be signed.

That's not true either. There were rumors he was talking with FAs at the combine, where it usually happens

Yeah, because we don't know who the Jets have contacted it means we haven't contacted anyone.  Because it makes sense on every level to let everyone know who we are negotiation with or have made offers to.

I know (hyperbole and all).  And if the Jets surprise us with a few key signings in the first few days, I will be extremely surprised and delighted.  But Norwell is a perfect example of a guy we should be fine overpaying for while we're sitting on a dragon's hoard of cap room.  Hearing the Giants might have him all but locked up irritates me.  Sure, we can sign two CBs and maybe a WR, but to me, Norwell and one of the top Centers should be 1a and 1b.  As we have heard nothing but a few rumors about Richburg interest here and nothing about Jensen, I'm inclined to believe we are targeting one of them and the Jets are just a little better about keeping their sh-t under wraps this year.  Good for them.

But I do not understand how Norwell wasn't a full-court press from the beginning.  There is no other Guard even close to his level of play available and we desperately could use that upgrade.  If we end up the FA signing season with $40MM of cap still available while Norwell goes to the Giants with their fairly thin cap room, I will be very disappointed.

I think that's a given, the question is whether they'll make big splashes or settle on middling players on the hopes big time players get cut and we are the only ones with enough money to snag them.

Well the last time they made big splashes and it didn’t go over well. I think they will spread the wealth a little more.

Joe Caporoso’s take on FA seems to be more in line with what I think happens
