So let’s give Cousins 3 years 100 million just because.  SMDH at this fan base that wants to do this sh*t.

You know it doesn't work that way.  An aging veteran with maybe 2 seasons left vs a guy in his prime.  You are comparing apples to oranges and Brees most definitely gave the Saints a "home-own" discount.  Do you seriously think Brees would have ever accepted such an offer from another team?

The aging Vet just lost in the playoffs on a miracle play, set the Record for competition % in a season, and a guy older then him just played in 3 of the last 4 SB’s winning 2 of them, and Cousins is refusing to go longer then 3 years on his contract so the only difference between the 2 QB’s is that Drew Brees is actually worth the contract, and the other is a waste of money.

Looks like Brees FINALLY gave the Saints a home town discount! Absolute STEAL for the Saints. Brees is 40, wanted to end his career in New Orleans & try to get another ring. Remember people it was BECAUSE OF BREES GREED during his last contract That the Saints defense sucked!

Because trying to lock up a 29 year old, top FA being courted by others is the same as keeping your own player around.  One who really doesnt want to leave for another team

Courted by others?  He has 2 teams the one he wants to go to, but they apparently have no interest in paying him for one 30 million per, and 2 for only a 3 year commitment, and the 2nd team is the Jets who are the only team stupid enough to beg him to accept a blank check for 3 years, and he has no interest in doing that as he knows the empty cupboard roster the Jets have will do nothing to get him another big pay day when he gets on the open market after his 3 year contract is up.

Breesy wants players around him to try to win one more before he retires so he took a discount kind of like what Peyton did. This is Cousins payday.

Started with Jets, Broncos, Cards, Minny, interested, that we know of.  Never mind the limiting factor is who can afford a guy perfectly positioned to be paid because of the nature of FA and the position.  Not from being stupid.

Thats more than one team wanting to keep their own player.  And hardly makes us stupid.

And for all your crystal ball predictions, how about letting it all play our before jumping to the "he doesnt want to play for us, we suck" nonsense.  You dont have a clue where he wants to go.  Just want to play the SOJF card.  Only fanbase that consistently looks at their team as the worst landing spot for a player.

No the media, and Cousins Agents wanted you to believe everyone, and their mother wanted to hand Cousins a blank check, every team besides the Jets and Vikings basically got Kirks demands, and basically said GL in your future endeavors Kirk.

If this is true that he's VISITING Vikings tomorrow, I will have zero respect for Macc if he doesn't just pull the plug on Cousins so he loses all of his leverage using the Jets. Ive said this before, I wanted Cousins, but I'd still be excited with a Mayfield or Rosen draft!

I totally agree. Sign a vet and draft someone. Now is the time to move on. I wanted Cousins but was never under the impression he was Drew Brees.

There is a difference in wanting Kirk Cousins, and letting him & his agent bend you over while he's driving up the price ON HIS WAY to Minny. This is so like the Reggie White deal except I don't see the Vikes winning a Super Bowl being the NFC is so strong. Move on Macc QUICKLY that way you don't get used. I'd have more respect for him backing out, than sitting by the phone while Cousins is in Minnesota.

Sure, it was all created by the media.  No one wanted Cousins, just the Jets.  And that makes us, because its stupid to want a QB who averages 4300 yards, 27 TD, 12INTs, 66%.  That would make us stupid.  Not nearly as smart as the Vikes, who are trying to lure him by paying him a record amount for only 3 years, chance losing him while promising him another huge payday.

But we're the stupid ones.  Handing out blank checks? How do we know that we are?  Oh, yeah, that same media, making up stories about interest in Cousins have the dollar figures right.  Funny how the media is clueless when you want to deny the reports but are the bible when we want ammo.

And you have no clue that anyone is bending anyone over or that the price is being driven up by anything other than demand.

My post is based on the rumors he's heading to Minny tomorrow. IF TRUE, its easy to find out, back out, and say sayanara.

I agree. And to me its more like the Antoine Winfield situation. Which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I think the same may be said here when all is said and done.

And if his agent has half a brain he visits each remaining team thats interested.  Viking fans can say the same things we're saying.  Why, if they think hes the best guy to play QB for us does his stock go down because he listens to another offer?

The joy of all the guys who stupidly wanted a QB who sucks, and are now butt hurt when he scorned us, and probably for less money! I have plenty of tissue boxes left over after we passed on Mahomes last year in the draft for a cheerleader you can borrow some.

I've said this before, although I want Cousins because at least I KNOW he can play QB in the NFL, it might just play out that we miss, draft Baker & the dude gets the name Baker the Touchdown Maker!

Its the saying that "Sometimes not getting what you want is a brilliant stroke of luck"

That's bullspit! The guy has been a free agent since he's been released. Him & his agent have known forever that it would be the Jets & Vikings. This f*cking circus train is JUST LIKE the Reggie White deal. MOVE ON QUICKLY MACC!

Yeah, wanting the Jets to sign Cousins is stupid, youre right he sucks.  And hes scorned us, lol.  For less money, because WE SUCK!!!!  We're losers.

Why dont you go root for a better team, a model organization like the Chiefs and their shiny, new, FQB who will take the league buy storm and win for years and years.

Actually hes not a FA until the 14th.  Theres a 48hour window before that you can negotiate.  So no, hes not free today to negotiate with.

It hasnt been close to a circus train, it hasnt been anything like Reggie White or Whitfield.  Not even close, its been a lot of speculation and guess work by the media getting naive fans to spin in one direction to another.  Whoever he signs with, for whatever reasons is how it works.  Its like fans are prepping themselves for losing out on him by trashing him for no reason.

Lets not forget White was a top 5 defensive player. Cousins isnt nearly close to that. Even on a team that can hide him like the Vikings.

There have been lots of FA over the years who have been wanted by numerous teams.  After they pick a team all the others get to say it was a circus train?  Again I think as soon as the Vikings and their enviable position came into the mix some fans have turned to attacking Cousisns as a defense mechanism to losing him.  Look how  many are killing our FO because he might be picking the better scenario over us so lets blame Macc and/or Bowles.  We go from being pissed at a Revis for taking the money to being pissed at Cousins for not going for the biggest payday.

Greed?

His last contract was right in line with the few peers he had. His cap number ballooned because the team wanted to spend what they didn't have, so they restructured and restructured him over the years to keep pushing past/current hits off to the future, to the point where his cap number ended up well above his compensation.

They're the ones that kept repeatedly paying a him in the low or mid-20s while artificially keeping his cap numbers in the high teens with things like the recent 2 year contract that was masqueraded as a 5-year deal so they could spread $18m of it to future planned-void years in 2018/beyond.

He never held out or hinted at holding out while under contract, even when it was obvious to all that he vastly outplayed the $10m/year on a long 6 year deal he initially signed with NO (during which time they won their only SB).

Brees has always been paid top 3 when his contracts came up. Your wrong. Go look at his past 2 previous contracts.

I'm not wrong at all.

First off, he's a top 3 QB who was a FA because the team wanted to wait until his contract was over, in case he got injured so they wouldn't be on the hook, so what of it?

Next, he was also a top 3 QB when they were paying him below market $ for years, wayyyy better than they could have ever dreamed of, on a contract that had little in terms of long term guarantees/security. So basically, he should take less when he signed a below-market deal and should then take less again when the shoe's on the other foot and he's not locked in?

His last contract extension in 2016 was 2 years $44m. How is $22m/year, in a new contract signed in 2016, outrageous for a QB at his level? It's the same rate that Rodgers signed 3 full seasons earlier, that Ben and Wilson signed a year earlier, and within 5% of what freaking Eli signed a whole year earlier. If he was really putting the screws to them he could have held out unless he matched go to the highest bidder he'd have easily eclipsed $22m per. Oh wait, he couldn't because he was tagged with an ERFA tag below his value.

The contract before that was 5 years $100m in 2012. A year later Rodgers eclipsed that by ~$2m/year. It's a significant comparison because Brees also never misses a start (let alone multiple missed half-seasons).

You're really not right. He could have held out for more. If the team wanted a lower deal like other teams do they could and should have extended him before the last contract was up. That's how it works. It's the price they pay for wanting limited risk. You get one or the other, not both.
