JohnnyLV
So it just occurred to me that the Jets HC, GM and FO are not the bumbling clueless directionless buffoons making completely random moves like we think they are, they are actually very focused individuals pursuing a very specific plan to build and manage this team and are consistently executing on it. The only problem is that their plan is based on a vision of the NFL from about 1966 and is completely and utterly inappropriate and stupid in the NFL of today. The Jets philosophy is this: 1. Win with defense. Keep games close, and try not to have the offense lose the game 2. Just manage the ball on offense. A punt is a GOOD drive. 3. Feature a veteran game manager QB on offense to minimize mistakes. Don't focus on developing a young QB. If we have to go to a young guy at QB the season is over anyway. 4. Operate a run first offense, especially on first and second down. The OC is the best scapegoat for a down season. 5. Build the defense by using top draft picks on defense. 6. Run a defense that focuses on "tweener" secondary talent meaning a lot of safeties, big corners and small LB'ers 7. Avoid drafting OL early in the draft (Mac has actually stated this outright) and draft project OL in mid to late rounds 8. Use veteran FA, UDFA signings and late round picks for playmakers on offense. 9. Play veterans above rookies in all cases except for early round defensive players 10. Punt when down 2 or more scores down late in the 4th quarter to avoid embarassment We are not drafting a QB in the first round. Mac will say there is one they liked but they just felt it was better to draft Minkah. We WILL pass on one of the Top 5 QBs and we will draft defense. Our QB will be a veteran either McClown or Bridgewater. We MAY take a flyer on someone like Falk or Lauletta but they wont play. We will SUCK. We will win 4 or 5 games again. And all because of the team that these BOZOs WANT to build. Seriously, I may just golf on football Sunday now and come back next year. I live in San Diego after all. A round of golf is definitely healthier and less stressful than watching this crap show and eating 20 wings every Sunday.
peebag
I'd feel a lot better if they did have a plan, any plan. But right now I think they're just so inept at their jobs that they're winging it.
Beerfish
Our plan is to go too fast and ignore those iceberg warnings. Or maybe to dock our hydrogen filled air ship to a large metal pole in a lightning storm.
Jetster
What this tells me is Petty & Hack are dead meat & we are definitely going after a QB. You guys are freaking out over 10 million for McCown? It's a 1 year deal, we have close to a 100 million & Cousins is an afterthought, we're moving on brought back 2 vets one who is still 25 years old. Not much else we could do losing the Cousins sweepstakes, but we still have a sh*tload of money to resign Morris & sign another top CB, either Johnson, Gaines or Fuller (I want nothing to do with Butler). If we sign a Center, CB, and Trent Murphy if the price is right I'll be happy. So far Cousins is the only free agent that I feel we've lost. I didn't want Keenum or Bradford, and we might get a veteran cut WR that can help us. I think we'll try to solidify the secondary with Adams & Maye heading into their 2nd year. We still have great draft assets.
JetPotato
Are there any other sports in the Fall? I need a plan too.
